Module 2 No Drugs—Reading and Vocabulary教案Teaching Aims:
(1)Get some information about drugs and taking drugs.
(2) Discuss the dangers of taking drugs, making the students keep away from drugs and value their lives.
Moral lessons:
Develop firm “no-drug” a ttitude.
Teaching Important Points:
1.Encourage the students to learn some new words related to drugs:
inject, addictive, drug dealer, drug addict, powerful
2.Train the students’ reading skills.
3.Improve the students’ ability of organizing and analyzing an art icle.
Teaching Difficult Points:
1.How to choose the topic for the passage.
2.Learn how to organize and summarize a passage.
3.conclude the dangers of taking drugs
Teaching Methods: individual work ; pair work; discussion
Teaching Tools: Multiple media
Teaching Time: 45 minutes
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1: Lead-in
Present a short video about Lin zexu and burning of opium stocks in Humen beach, a famous earthshaking event in history.
Present pictures of burning drugs in modern times
Different times have the same mission: resist drugs
Step 2: New words learning
1.show pictures about : cannabis, cocaine, crack cocaine, needle, inject
(let students know their meanings clearly)
2.list important words and their meanings on the screen :
addictive, blood pressure, break into, danger, drug addict, drug dealer, heart attack, heart rate, immediately, increase, powerful, reduce
(emphasize three underlined words )(Chinese-English practice)
3.let students do Activity 3 on Page12 individually
Step 3: Fast reading (individual work)
1.choose the correct topic for each article
2. decide which parts the articles contain.
Article 1: A Drug Addict and His Story. It contains part 2、3 5,6
Article 2: The Dangers of Using Cocaine. It contains part 1、4.
Step 4: Careful reading (pair work)
Article 1:
1.read through Article 1 loudly then finish the summary of it, making sure students understand
it better
2.let students check with partner
3.collect answers from the whole class, having students read toghther
Article 2:
1.Give three questions, let students answer
2.summarize the dangers and harms of drug taking
↗ smoke increase heart rate,blood pressure
Cocaine → have heart attacks
↘ inject have anti-social behavior
(powerfully addictive drug)
Step 5: Situated Discussion
1. Show students a flash , work in pairs of four , let students discuss
“If I were Lihua , I would……”
2. Ask two or three students show their opinions
3. V olunteers show different opinions
4. The teacher conclude: drugs not only do great harm to a person's health, but also ruin
a family.......
5. Let’s vow together:
Keep away from drugs , cherish our life !!! Step 6: Homework
