Is there anything more important than health? I don't think so. You can't be good at your studies or work when you are ill. If you have a headache, or a bad cough, if you run a high temperature and have a bad cold, I think you should go to the doctor. The doctor will examine your throat, feel your pulse, take your temperature, sound your heart and lungs. After that he will advise some treatment,or some medicine. The only thing you have to do is to follow his advice.Speaking of doctor's advice, I can't help telling you a funny story. An old man came to see the doctor. The man was very ill. He told the doctor about his weakness, memory loss and serious problems with his heart and lungs. The doctor examined him and said there was no medicine for his disease. In other words, the doctor advised him to follow the rule: “Eat at pleasure, drink with measure and enjoy life as it is.” Th e doctor also said that if the man wanted
to be well again, he shouldn't smoke more than one cigarette a day.

California Condor's Shocking Recovery
California condors are North America's largest birds, with wing-length of up to 3 meters. In the 1980s, electrical lines and lead poisoning (铅中毒) nearly drove them to dying out. Now, electric shock training and medical treatment are helping to rescue these big birds.
In the late 1980s, the last few condors were taken from the wild to be bred (繁殖). Since 1992, there have been multiple reintroductions to the wild, and there are now more than 150 flying over California and nearby Arizona, Utah and Baja in Mexico.
Electrical lines have been killing them off.“As they go in to rest for the night, they just don't see the power lines,” says Bruce Rideout of San Diego Zoo. Their wings can bridge the gap between lines, resulting in electrocution (电死) if they touch two lines at once.
So scientists have come up with a shocking idea. Tall poles, placed in large training areas, teach the birds to stay clear of electrical lines by giving them a painful but undeadly electric shock. Before the training was introduced, 66% of set-free birds died of electrocution. This has now dropped to 18%.Lead poisoning has proved more difficult to deal with. When condors eat dead bodies of other animals containing lead, they absorb large quantities of lead. This affects their nervous systems and ability to produce baby birds, and can lead to kidney (肾) failure and death. So condors with high levels of lead are sent to Los Angeles Zoo, where they are treated with calcium EDTA, a chemical that removes lead from the blood over several days. This work is starting to pay off. The annual death rate for adult condors has dropped from 38% in 2000 to 5.4% in 2011.
Rideout's team thinks that the California condors' average survival time in the wild is now just under eight years.“Although these measures are not effective forever, they are vital for now,” he says.“They are truly good birds that are worth every effort we put into recovering them.”

Wildlife faces threats (威胁) from habitat destruction, pollution, and other human actions. Although protecting wildlife may seem too hard at times, even small actions in your own neighbourhood can help protect many different animals. Here are some tips on how to protect wildlife through small actions.
1.Create wildlife-friendly areas in your backyard.
When trying to make your garden more beautiful, you can choose plants that can provide food and shelter for native wildlife. This will also help cut down on pollution. Add bird or bat houses to your yard or garden to attract and shelter these species.
2.Avoid harming the natural ecosystem (生态系统) in your area.
Some plants from other places can kill or harm native plants that provide food and shelter for wildlife.
3.______________________
By using less water and fewer fuels, you will be helping to protect the wildlife around you. Take buses or the subway when you can, turn off electric devices when you're not using them, take shorter shower, and keep your room temperature at or below 68 degrees during the winter.
4.Buy products that are wildlife-friendly.
Don't buy products that are made from endangered animals. Keep in mind that some endangered animals are killed by traps, catches or hunters who are after other wildlife within the same habitat.

Dinosaur Isle
It is located in Sandown, a seaside town on the southeast coast. It's a large, lovely museum, both fun and educational. Here you can see a large fossil collection of all kinds of dinosaurs, as well as a gift shop. You can walk into the past and then the future, learning about the history and the development of the civilization of dinosaurs (恐龙) that lived 120 million years ago.
Robin Hill Country Park
The park is in the beautiful countryside, and is suitable for children's parties and games. It has five new gardens, and offers great opportunities to see and take pictures of the rare red squirrels.
The West of the Wight
Here we have the Marine Aquarium, the Archaeology Exhibition and the Model Railway. They offer another opportunity to combine entertainment (娱乐) with learning. This is a great place to see ancient boats crossing the narrow strait between the island and the mainland.
The Wight Bus Museum
This museum is run completely by unpaid volunteers. It has a bus collection stored in what was once a warehouse (仓库). Most of the buses in the museum date back to around the 1910's.

第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

选项中有两项为多余选项。

If you were to see a cold, hungry cat in front of your house, would you feed it or walk away? Most people would walk away instead of taking the time to make sure the cat is okay. __36__ They usually have so much to deal with in their daily life as to ignore their surroundings.
Now here's another question: If you see a group of kids hitting and abusing an animal, would you stop them?__37__ Some people do not believe that animal abuse is a big issue.
Every day animals are abused in their homes or on the streets. It seems as if politicians do nothing to stop this issue.Everyone is worried about education and global warming. What about animals?__38__ These are the rights that allow animals a place to stay, a shelter if they have no place to stay, the right not to be abused and many other rights. Are we taking away animals' right by not giving them a place to stay? Yes, we are. Since I was born, my mother, my sister and I have taken in over fifty homeless cats, fed them, cleaned them and sent them to good families. Some people probably give different views, saying,“__39__” It's true. There are people in the world that need help but we cannot forget the animals. We are all living on this Earth together, why not help each other?
__40__You can volunteer, at your local animal shelter, raise money for animal shelters, and inform your community about animal abuse. You can easily buy a cheap box of dry cat/dog food to feed the animals.
A.Again people would walk away.
B.There are many things you can do to help animals around.
C.Many people have little knowledge about old animals.

38.D'上一句的问句“What about animals?”和下文的“These are the rights that allow animals ...”表明,作者认为动物像人一样也是有权利的。

故选D项“Animals, like us Americans, have rights.”。

39.G'上一句的“different views”与下文的“There are people in the world that need help ...”
