The beauty of the West Lake lies in its picturesque scenery. The overall pattern of the West Lake is “mountain on three sides and city on one side”. Its north, west and south sides are closely connected to mountains. The east bank of the West Lake is the west boundary of the urban area of Hangzhou city. The water area of the West Lake is famous for the pattern of“two dikes and three islands”. The lake is divided into several regions with different sizes by the Su and Bai dikes and the natural island Gushan. The three islands are interspersed among them, like the Yaotai fairyland, which symbolizes the fairyland image of“one pool and three mountains”in the Qin and Han dynasties. The style of dividing and organizing the space by dike and island, which combines the unique landscape of the lake dike in the south of China, is an outstanding example of how human beings create an elegant environment by using the ancient lagoon. It is also an important architectural style of Chinese landscape design, which not only has the largescale aesthetic appreciation function, but also enriches the landscape style, highlighting the concept of pursuing harmony between man and nature in eastern culture.

Introduction China lies in the east of Asia, the west coast of the Pacific Ocean.
As a vast country, China covers an area of about 9.6 million square kilometers. Due to its vast territory, the natural landscapes and humanity landscapes are different from each other. The landscapes in some parts of China are magnificent and vigorous, while they are characterized by their beauty and charm in some other places. By means of transportation, people can enjoy different landscapes from Mohe to Nansha Islands only in one day, and that means people can enjoy different landscapes from spring to winter in one day. In this chapter, some representative natural landscapes and humanity landscapes in China are introduced.
