★complete v. 完成(喜欢与建筑工程连用)
① vt. 完成,结束complete the building

《鲁迅全集》中的“全集” 就用“complete”

surprise也可以作不可数名词,表示“惊讶”
in surprise 吃惊的,在惊慌中
She looked at the man in surprise.
to one's surprise 与后面的句子用逗号隔开。
做动词时:what surprises sb is that ……令某人吃惊的是…
e.g
令我吃惊的是她居然会打篮球
3、We are now living in a beautiful new house in the country.
a beautiful new house离一个名词最近的词跟该词的关系最密切(或者说客观的形容词离名词进), 冠词肯定是放在最前面的

work(工作,作业)是抽象的不可数名词,“……的工作”后面必须用介词on 4、In my letter, I told her that she could stay with us.
stay with 跟……暂住在一起(stayvi. 暂住,逗留)

1) adj. 苦恼的,心烦的,不安的
eg. He was upset at not being invited. 他因没有被邀请而感到苦恼。
2) v. 使哭恼,心烦意乱,弄翻,打乱,使(肠胃)不适,意外击败

eg. A tall bottle upsets easily. 高瓶子容易翻倒。
eg. He upset his stomach by eating too much rich food.
他吃了太多油腻的东西感到胃不舒服。
eg. Don’t be upset by trifles ['traifl] . 不要为小事烦恼。
3) n. 翻倒,打乱,(在比赛中)意外失败

eg. I don’t want you to sympathize with me. 我并不想要你同情我。
➢complain v. 抱怨
1) complain to sb about/at sth 对某人抱怨某事
eg. I don’t like you. You are always complaining! 我不喜欢你。
你总是抱怨。
2) complain of 诉说;主诉病情
3) complain that… 抱怨
eg. He complained that nothing came out the way he had expected.
他抱怨说没有什么事情按他所期待的去发展。
n.抱怨, 诉苦;投诉, 控告;疾病
eg. I have no complaint about my pay. 我对工资没什么不满的。
➢wicked['wikid] adj. ---er ---est
1) 指人或人的行为不道德的,缺德的,邪恶的
a wicked deed 邪恶的行为 a wicked lie 邪恶的谎言
It is wicked of sb to do… 某人做…真坏
eg. It is wicked of you to let your dog die of hunger. 让你的狗饿死,你可真缺德。
wicked weather 恶劣的天气(口)
➢contain / hold v. 容纳,包含,内装该词不能用于进行时态
区别:include 包括,该部分是整体的一部分,可分离出来
contain 含有,该内容是整体中不可分离的成分或“容纳,内装”
eg. These are 15 girls in the class, including me. 班上有15个女孩子,包括我。
eg. The whisky contains a large percent of alcohol. 威士忌酒里含有大量的酒精。
container n. 容器
include ←→ exclude[iks'klu:d] 排除,不包括
➢honesty n. [U] 诚实←→dishonesty n. adj. 诚实的
it is honest of sb to do 某人做…是正直的
eg. It is honest of you to tell the truth. 你说出事实真相,你是正直的。
to be honest (with sb)坦白说(通常置于句首)
eg. Honestly, that’s exactly what she said. 老实说,那就是她说的原话。
经常用在作文或阅读中的短语:honestly speaking 坦白说
generally speaking 一般来说frankly speaking 坦白地说
1. I entered the hotel manager's office and sat down.
区别:enter v. 进入enter for 参加
entrance (to)n. 入口entrance to the building 这栋大楼的入口
2. I had just lost $50 and I felt very upset.
lose---( ) vt遗失,失落,丧失
eg. She lost her husband in the crowd. 她和丈夫在人群中走散了。
lose one’s job 失业lose temper lose labor 白费力气
lost adj. 失却的,丢了的
recall one’s lost youth 回忆某人失去的青春
loss n. 损失suffer a great/heavy loss 遭受巨大损失
be at a loss 不知所措,困惑
eg. She was at a loss for an answer. 她不知怎样回答。
3. 'I left the money in my room,' I said, 'and it's not there now.'
leave sth somewhere 把…留在…
eg. I left my homework at home. 我把作业落在家里了。
5. Everyone’s losing money these days, he said.
用进行时表示不断重复的动作:频率副词+进行时态(还可以表示)
eg. You are always complaining. 你总是在抱怨。
6. He started to complain about this wicked world but was interrupted by a
knock at the door.
start to do/ start doing(begin)
complain to sb about 对…抱怨…
eg. He is always complaining to me about his fate. 他总是对我抱怨他的命运。
7. A girl came in and put an envelope on his desk. It contained $50. 'I found this outside this gentleman's room,' she said. 'Well,' I said to the manager, 'there is still some honesty in this world!'

语法:
1) What…,How…(such…..so….)
---What + 冠词+ adj. + n. + (主语+ 谓语动词,包括联系动词在内)

表示惊奇,愤怒,赞赏,喜悦等感情
eg. What a wonderful garden (it is)!

2) 直接宾语与间接宾语
