Driving to a friend's house on a recent evening, I was attracted by the sight of the full moon rising just above my friend’s rooftops. I stopped to watch it for a few moments, thinking about what a pity it was that most city people, myself included, usually miss sights like this because we spend most of our lives indoors.
My friend had also seen it. He grew up living in a forest in Europe, and the moon meant a lot to him then. It had touched much of his life.
I know the feeling. Last December I took my seven-year-old daughter to the mountainous jungle of northern India with some friends. We stayed in a forest rest-house with no electricity or running hot water. Our group had campfires(篝火) outside every night, and indoors when it was too cold outside. The moon grew to its fullest during our trip. Between me and the high mountains lay three or four valleys. Not a light shone in them and not a sound could be heard. It was one of the quietest places I have ever known, a bottomless well of silence. And above me was the full moon, which struck me deeply.
Today our lives are filled with glass, metal, plastic and fibre-glass. We have televisions, cell phones, pagers, electricity, heaters and ovens and air-conditioners, cars, computers.
Struggling through traffic that evening at the end of a tiring day, most of it spent indoors, I thought: before long, I would like to live in a small cottage. There I will grow vegetables and read books and walk in the mountains. I may become an old man there, and wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled and measure out my life in coffee spoons. But I will be able to walk outside on a cold silent night and touch the moon.

B. tell us that people greatly benefit from modern life

You're sitting on the train home and the person opposite you yawns(打哈欠). Suddenly, you're yawning with him, though you're not tired.
This phenomenon confused scientists for years until a recent study found that people tend to sympathize with fellow humans. Supporting this claim was the discovery that those children who were unable to form normal emotional ties with others did not experience contagions(有感染力的) yawning, which showed that humans communicate regularly without words.
Hogo Critchley, a neuroscientist, has conducted an experiment recently, which will prove that happiness and sadness can spread like the common cold. According to Critchley, our mind and body are in constant exchange about how we're feeling. “Emotions are close ly linked with states of internal(内部的)responses, ”he explained. “There are also more visible changes in our gesture and facial expressions. When we're in a group, these signals can spread to another person. For example, there’s the obvious tendency to smile when smiled at and there are less obvious changes that reflect emotions of surprise, anger or sadness such as a change in our heart rate and blood pressure. ”
Hugo Critchley further explained, “Our bodies synchronize and when we like the other person, we even copy his behivour. Next time you chat with a friend, take note of how you’re sitting----it's pretty likely that you will be the same. Scientists believ e it’s our way of telling each other that we’re partners. Through body language, humans give each other very subtle (微妙的) but clear signals that show emotions. ”
So, what lessons can we learn from this? “Spend time with happy people—otherwise your health c ould suffer, ” said Critchley. “When we’re sad, our body goes into fight or flight mode. But when we’re happy, our body works nor mally and we feel relaxed and positive. So we look bright, our skin glows, we feel healthy and it affects everyone around us. ”
67. According to Hogo Critchley, _________.
A. emotions are as visible as facial expressions
B. we yawn more frequently when we have a cold
C. emotions are connected with states of internal responses
D. the change of blood pressure is not linked with the change of emotions
68. The underlined word “synchronize” in paragra p h 4 means “_________”.
A. move slowly
B. change rapidly
C. relax temporarily
D. respond accordingly
69. From the passage we can learn ______.
A. sadness is as contagious as happiness
B. anger is less contagious than friendliness
C. surprise is more contagious than smile
D. surprise is the most contagious among emotions
70. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
A. Emotions have delicate influence on fellow humans.
B. Children like copying the actions of the fellow humans.
C. Scientists are still confused about contagious yawning.
D. People tend to communicate more with body language.

Real policemen hardly recognize any similarity between their lives and what they see on TV.
The first difference is that a policeman’s real life revolved round (围绕;
以…为目的) criminal law. He has to know exactly what actions are crimes and what evidence can be used to prove them in court. He has to know nearly as much law as
a professional lawyer, and what is more, he has to apply it on his feet, in the
dark and rain, running down a street after someone he wants to talk to.
Little of his time is spent in chatting. He will spend most of his working life typing millions of words on thousands of forms about hundreds of sad, unimportant people who are guilty of stupid crimes.
Most television crime drama is about finding the cr iminal: as soon as he’s arrested, the story is over. In real life, finding criminal is seldom much of a problem. Except in very serious cases like murders and terrorist attacks, little effort is spent on searching.
Having made an arrest, a detective (侦探) really starts to work. He has to prove his case in court and to do that he often has to gather a lot of different evidence.
A third big difference between the drama detective and the real one is the
unpleasant pressures: first, as members of a police force, they always have to behave absolutely in accordance with (依照) the law. Secondly, as expensive public servants, they have to get results. They can hardly ever do both. Most of the time some of them have to break the rules in small ways.
If the detective has to deceive (欺骗) the world, the world often deceives him.
Hardly anyone he meets tells him the truth. And this separation the detective feels between himself and the rest of the world is deepened by the simple-minded — as he see it — of citizens, social workers, doctors, law-makers, and judges, who, instead of eliminating(消除) crime, punish the criminals less severely in the hope that this will make them reform. The result, detective feel, is that nine-tenths of their work is re-catching people who should have stayed behind bars. This makes them rather cynical (愤世嫉俗的).

第三节:书面表达(共20分)
Dear Headmaster,
I’m writing to tell you about the discussion we’ve had on whether the school
should organize a spring outing for the students.
Opinions on the question are divided as follows: 70% of the students think that
the school should organize the spring outing. They believe that the spring outing
can make them enjoy the beautiful scenery of nature, which can broaden our vision
and fill us with more knowledge. They also say that the air in the open fields is
fresher. What’s more, fresh air does a lot of good to our health.
On the other hand, the rest don’t like the idea of going out for a spring outing.
In their opinion, time is very precious, so they have to grasp every minute to work
hard at their lessons. Traveling costs much money. In that case, it will add to their
fa milies’ burden. Above all, no one can be sure of the safety of every student.
I’m looking forward to your reply.
Yours truly
Li Hua

W: Hey, Ken, what are you doing?
M: I’m looking up the weather forecast for Chicago on the Internet.
W: Why? Are you going to go on business there?
M: No. I have a friend there and I want to visit him for a few days next week, but
I hate to travel when it rains… Here we are. Well there’s a 30% chance of rain
on Monday and an 80% chance of rain on Tuesday. It’s going to rain all day Wednesday and Thursday. ⑦But there’s a good chance of nice weather starting Friday through the weekend.

M: Where shall we visit today?
W: First, we shall visit an ancient king’s palace, and then tour a beautiful garden. M: I would also like to take a tour of the city and appreciate the styles of the constructions.
W: Time permitting, we shall visit the downtown districts along the way. There are
a lot of old buildings in the street.
M: What’s the city famous for?
W: Its long history. There are many known historical sites around here. Many unearthed historical objects are displayed in the city museum. It’s really worth visiting. M: How wonderful! I can’t wait.
(Text 8)
W: Jack, just look at this amazing painting.
M: It is amazing, but what is it exactly?
W: It’s a Picasso! It does look kind of strange, I must admit.
M: Yes, strange but beautiful. What’s it called?
W: Let me see… this one is Les Demoise de Avignon, painted in 1907.
M: 1907? That’s over one hundred years ago, but his work looks so modern!
W: Well, he has born in 1881. And he died when he was 92, so he had a long life. M: I heard that he had many girlfriends, who he often painted and had many children. W: Yes, that’s true. But I think he only married twice. His true love was a lady called Jacqueline, who he married in 1961.。
