Ss: Good morning/ afternoon, Mr. /Ms…
T: Please look at the pictures and discuss which word you will choose to describe the following pictures.
Show the following pictures on the PowerPoint.
Ss: Conflict.
T: Quite right! “Conflict” is the title of Unit 23. From the pictures we can learn the definitions of the word “conflict”. Who would like to have a try?

After students give their explanation, show the following on the PowerPoint.
6. opposition in a work of drama or fiction between characters or forces
(especially an opposition that motivates the development of the plot)
7. a disagreement or argument about something important
T: After a good understanding of the word “conflict”, let’s e to the Unit Objectives. What are the objectives of Unit 23?
Show the Unit Objectives on the PowerPoint and color the language skills. Ask students to pay more attention to the colored words. Or ask students to read the Unit Objectives on Page 19 together and they should pay more attention to the words in blue.
T: Please discuss which of the objectives is the most important to you.
After discussing the Unit Objectives, go on with Warm-up.

Deal with Warm-up. The Warm-up page introduces students to the unit topic. It prepares them by focusing on key lexical areas and involves them through listening and personalization activities. Warm-up activities will get students thinking and talking about the topic — conflict.
Deal with Ex 1
Show the four pictures in Warm-up on the PowerPoint. Ask students to explain their familiar one. Then Teacher will explain the one that students are not very familiar with. This will help student finish the exercises without difficulty.
T: Now we are going to listen to the summaries of different conflicts and match them with the pictures. Before listening, let’s talk about the four pictures. I’d like to know how much you know about the conflicts.
S: I have seen the movie The Story of Qiu Ju (Qiu Ju da guan si). The movie starts with Qui taking her injured husband to see the doctor. He has just had a fight with the village chief, who beat him up. When Qui goes to the authorities to seek repense for her husband's injury, she receives little in the way of
satisfaction. While they are willing to grant her husband monetary pensation, they will not pel the chief to apologize, which is what Qui really wants. So, despite an advanced pregnancy, she begins a series of long treks to distant districts and cities in an attempt to attain justice.
Throughout the film, all Qui wants is a simple apology, but the lengths that she has to go to, and the money that she has to spend, in an attempt to secure it, is astonishing.

After talking about the four pictures, play the recording for students to listen. Then check the answers with the whole class.

B: I think there used to be too much violence on TV. That will have a negative effect on people, especially young people and kids.
