On a hot muggy(闷热的)August afternoon, I had every reason to feel sorry for myself -- my flight home was full and late.
I got even impatient waiting in the noisy crowd. And then I noticed a 5-year-old boy standing by his mother and watching me. He looked at me, then my bag, then back at me.
56 , he left his mother's side and slowly began to walk toward me, glancing between my bag, his mother, and me.
"Great," I thought, "now I have to baby-sit a 5-year-old. My day is now complete."
As he came closer, I was alarmed that it wasn't me he was after. It was my hat!
I started to tell him not to bother my things, but something made me stop and watch. He stopped in front of my bag, looking at my hat, then up at me.
With wide eyes, he gently ran his index finger along the edge, carefully touching the emblem(徽章).
Again, he looked up at me, now smiling, but saying nothing. I asked him if he would like to wear my captain hat.
He excitedly nodded his head, still smiling. I placed my hat on his head, but it fell down around his ears. He didn't seem to mind and held it up in the proper position with both hands. He ran to show his mother, then back to me still smiling from ear to ear.
With much reverence(敬畏) and ceremony, he slowly removed my hat with both hands and presented it to me as though it were the crown jewels.
I put my hat on and gave him an airplane card. This, too, he held with both hands in awe.
After this exchange, he still hadn't spoken, although I knew he was excited. I also was happy that I had been briefly distracted from my self-pity.
Still holding the card carefully with both hands, he looked up at me and said, "Mister, you sure are lucky."
"Yes," I said, "I sure am."
That day, I got the last seat on that flight home.

Last year, A Bite of China, made by CCTV’s Documentary Channel, sparked discussion not only on Chinese food, but also on locally made documentary programs.
When you think of documentaries, you may think of them as long, boring programs. But documentaries can be wonderful and bring stories from the real world into our homes. With fascinating footage(影片片段)and stories, documentaries encourage us to think about interesting issues we wouldn’t necessarily know about.
So, what makes a good documentary, and what should we pay attention to when we watch one? Here, we offer a few easy strategies to help you get the most out of watching documentaries. Pay attention to the themes
While watching a documentary, keep your eyes and ears peeled for the themes people talk about and what ideas they focus on. Is it meant to be informative or raise a certain emotional response?
Think critically
Listen to what the people in the documentary are saying and ask yourself the following questions: If you were debating with someone or introducing a new concept, would you say the things the people in the documentary are saying? Do the arguments make sense?
Check the sources
If you’re sitting at the computer and can’t think of anything to do, why not look up the points the documentary made and see if they are accurate? You could even read more about what is presented in the documentary.
Who are the creators?
The creators or financial backers of a film will usually be involved with how the subject matter is presented. For instance, as the documentary 2016: Obama’s America was directed in large part by a conservative writer, it’s not surprising that it’s critical of President Obama from the beginning.

We sometimes think global warming or climate change is a problem very far away from our lives, and that only the government needs to worry about it. But it’s hardly possible to completely stay out of it –scientists are now 95 percent sure that humans have been the “dominant cause” of global warming trends since the 1950s.
One of the conclusions of a report released on Sept 27 by the United Nations says that human activities have caused global temperatures to rise by 0.89 0C between 1901 and 2012. That might not seem like a lot, but the truth is that a major part of that heat has been absorbed into the oceans, which is not surprising given that they cover two thirds of Earth’s surface. Also, water has a much greater capacity (容量) to absorb heat than the air does, according to The Economist.
While many greenhouse gases occur naturally and are needed to keep the Earth warm enough to support life, humans’ use of fossil fuels is the main source of excess (多余的) greenhouse gases. According to CNN, by driving cars, using electricity produced by burning coal and oil or heating our homes with coal or natural gas, we release a large amount of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Your body can barely feel a difference of 0.89 0C, but the Earth’s ecosystems are so sensitive that even small changes can disturb them. It often starts with the smallest creatures at the bottom of the food chain, eventually affecting bigger animals, many of which could end up becoming extinct.
Global warming is also linked to an increase in extreme weather. A larger amount of carbon dioxide traps more energy inside the atmosphere. This changes the patterns of storms and rainfall in many regions and can lead to droughts and floods. Worse still, melting sea ice in warmer oceans is causing sea levels to rise at a speed of more than three millimeters per year, according to The Guardian, which also increases the risk of flooding.
“The report should serve as another wake-up call that our activities today have a profound impact on society, not only for us, but for many generations to come,” French Michel Jarraud, secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization, said at a news conference.
68. The underlined word “dominant” in the first paragraph means “____”.
A. common
B. indirect
C. secondary
D. leading
69. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? _____
A. Greenhouse gases have been proven to harm merely the Earth .
B. There is little we can do to prevent global warming.
C. Global warming can increase the chances of droughts and floods.
D. The hugeness of oceans makes them better absorbers of heat than the air.
70. The rise in global temperatures between 1901 and 2012 ____.
A. is more harmful to smaller creatures than bigger ones
B. is not serious because most of the extra heat has been absorbed by the oceans
C. has made the Earth’s ecosystems more sensitive to changes
D. is likely to cause many species to become extinct
71. What is Michel Jarraud’s attitude toward the report released by the UN? _____
A. Negative .
B. Supportive.
C. Doubtful.
D. Uninterested.
E
There are always minorities, either people or enterprises, that have absolute advantage(绝对优势)in a field; the majority apply their comparative advantage(相对优势)to professions where they do their best to be effective players . Based on comparative advantage, different divisions are formed as international trade and the globalized economy develop.
Oranges are flourishing in Florida in the United States, for example, shoes are made perfectly in Wenzhou of China, and people in both areas need oranges and shoes. In Wenzhou, one could try to create an artificial environment for orange trees of an international standard, and in Florida workers could be trained to make shoes as effectively as workers in Wenzhou using the same resources. However, the costs would be too high. The best solution, therefore, is to allow each location to specialize in its own product, producing enough to meet local needs and exporting the rest. As a result, people in both areas end up with lower cost and higher quality goods than if each tried to produce both. It is obvious that absolute advantage occurs in this process.
However, absolute advantage may not necessarily apply everywhere. For instance, I know a capable company boss, who is also an expert in private cars and very skillful at changing car oil, even more efficiently than a mechanic, But, almost every time he drives his car to a garage to have the oil changed by a mechanic since he believes he can use the time to do something more valuable. What he uses here is his comparative advantage rather than absolute advantage.
The same theory may also apply to individual careers. You may not be the best in a certain area, but still have a comparative advantage, which will not be reduced in relation to others’ absolute advantage, and you can still find an advantaged position in which your disadvantage is smaller relative to others.
An ordinary talent can, therefore, achieve outstanding results by rightfully exploring his or her comparative advantage. In this sense, we may say that comparative advantage really works.
72.From the example about orange in Florida and shoes in Wenzhou ,we can draw the conclusion that _____.
A.the field in Wenzhou can be improved to grow oranges .
B.Florida workers could be trained to make shoes .
C.we should fully use our absolute advantage in our advantaged field.
D.our comparative advantage is equal to our absolute one as to making fortunes .
73.Wh y doesn’t the capable company boss change his car oil himself ? _____
A.The mechanic is more efficient than him .
B.He needn’t do it by himself for his riches..
C.He would rather do something more valuable .
D.Changing oil is beyond his ability.
74.Which of the following is right according to paragraph 4. ? _____
A.You should use your absolute advantage in your work definitely .
B.You must work hard to improve your absolute advantage to be the best worker .
C.If other’s absolute advantage is larger , your comparative advantage is smaller .
D.Sometimes you may still use your comparative advantage to find your advantaged position .
75.This article can be entitled “_____”.
A.The Advantage of Comparative Advantage.
B.The Advantage of Absolute Advantage
C.Absolute Advantage—the secret to make different talents
parative Advantage—the way to achieve outstanding results
第II卷
第四部分写作(共两节,满分35分)
任务型读写(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。
注意:每个空格只填一个
单词。
How Self-Acceptance Leads to Happiness Within
Finding acceptance is a natural desire of most people. When we are young, it is important to us to be accepted by others. To do this, we will often adopt the views and interests of the others rather than develop our own.
Over time, however, we have the opportunity to learn to accept ourselves. People who have done this are confident in their true abilities; they do not feel the need to impress other people. They are concerned with whether their actions produce worthwhile results rather than with how they are seen by others.
Less confident people constantly agree with everything others suggest, for fear of having their own ideas rejected. Defensive people are also usually unconfident; in an attempt to hide their unconfidence, they blame others.
Confident people do not give up when faced with a difficult situation; they say "I can" rather than "I can't." Knowing that each day is an opportunity to use their talents to acquire good health, good friendships, and great happiness, they always put their best foot forward. Gradually they can appreciate the differences between themselves and other people.
Recognizing the details that we cannot change about ourselves helps us grow personally, so why waste energy complaining about being short? Instead of focusing on personal characteristics we are not satisfied with, we ought to focus more on what we are good at.
Such expressions as "Love yourself" and "Be true to your own self" are about self-acceptance, as well as honesty and morality. We should consider them to be good advice, and treat them as signposts showing the way to happiness within.
