● Welcome to the Unit
Step 1: Brainstorming
First, let’s enjoy some pictures.
Are you familiar with these pictures?
Can you name the films from which these pictures come?
(张国荣,《宝贝计划》,《满城尽带黄金甲》,《美丽的大脚》,《乱世佳人》,《憨豆》)
It seems that you know a lot about films. Now I’d like to ask you something more about films.
Who is your favorite actor or actress? Why do you like him or her?
Who is your favorite director? Can you name some of his/her works?
What’s your favorite film? What can you learn from it?
Why do you think it is a good film?
What do you think are the criteria of judging a good film?
A. popular film stars with good skills
B. an attractive or moving plot
C. a meaningful theme
D. magnificent scenes
Make your choice and give your reason!
Step 2: Sharing information
Have you ever watched a film in the cinema? Have you looked at and paid attention to film tickets? What information is usually presented on a film ticket?
Let’s come to the books. Read the instructions and study the four pictures one by one.
Ticket 1: The Black-and-White Festival
T: What kind of information can you get from the first picture?
S: One ticket for one adult only
Showing black-and-white films from the 1930s

T: What other information do you want to know about the event?
S: the starting date and closing date of the festival

Ticket 2: Hiding Dragon
T: What impressed you the most while looking at this ticket?

If you are asked to design the ticket, how will you do it?
Ticket 3: An invitation to the Academy Awards
T: What can we know about Academy Awards from the invitation?
S: The Academy Awards will honor the best films, actors and directors on that night.
T: Is there any special requirement for the special night?
S: All the guests must dress formally.
T: What do you think of the design of the invitation?
If you were given the chance to design an Academy Awards Invitation, what would it look like?
Ticket 4: The Day Before T: What kind of information can we get from the ticket?
S: This is an adult ticket for the film The Day Before at the Park Theatres, which is owned by ABC Film Corporation at 210 West Road in New York. T: Compared with the previous three tickets, what do you think of the design of the last ticket?
S: Much simpler.
Step 3: Discussion
1. Compare the four pictures and discuss the following questions:
Which of the four designs attracts you the most? Why?
If you had a chance to improve the design of one of the tickets, which would you choose and what would you do about it?
2. What kind of information might be included on a ticket?
3. Suppose there is a new film for children, how do you think the
ticket should be designed?
4. Come to the three questions below the pictures:
How much do you know about foreign film festivals?
Who is your favorite director? Why?
Do you prefer to go to the cinema or watch a film at home? Why?
Discuss them in groups of four, and you can exchange and compare your answers with others groups. Then report your answers to the class. Step 4: Homework

2. Prepare the Reading part.。
