The Butterfly's finding a Bride
There once was a butterfly flying gently. He was flying in the blue sky and was looking for his bride. 'Flower is the best bride for me!' The Butterfly thought, but there were too many flowers to choose only one.
"I will be able to find a beautiful flower if I fly all around the world." The Butterfly started to fly around to find the flower to be his bride. First, he found a snowdrop. "What a pretty flower she is! But she's too small."
The Butterfly flew to another place. He found a saffran this time. "Oh, she is beautiful. But she's too mature."
The Butterfly flew around again. "Wow, she's amazing!" He found an anemone. "But she's too passionate." The Butterfly flew away.
Then he met a violet. "She is a very soft flower, but she is too tender to be my bride."
Then he went to a tulip. "Hi, butterfly!" A red tulip nodded her head and greeted the butterfly. "Oh, hi!" Even though he replied to the red tulip, the Butterfly thought that the red tulip is too dazzling to be his bride.
"What do I have to do now? I can't find my bride." This time, he met a daffodil. "That daffodil is too pure. She is too pure and she even looks lonely." The Butterfly did not like the daffodil as his bride.
The Butterfly arrived at the place filled with apple tree flowers. "Tomorrow, the apple tree flower will fade along with the wind even if she is blooming today." The apple tree flower wasn't good enough to be the butterfly's bride, either.
There was a pea flower. "Wow, she is very splendid!" Pea flowers were in elegant bloom with red and white colors. The Butterfly liked the pea flower because she was neither too lonely nor too dazzling.
"Hi, Miss Pea flower?" Butterfly flew closer to her to ask to be his bride. Then, he caught sight of a messy flower hanging on a leaf with a withered bean chaff. He ran away in a hurry after seeing that.
In this way, spring and summer passed. But the butterfly still could not find his bride. Autumn came. One day Butterfly smelled a strong scent while he was flying. There was a peppermint in the field.
"That's great. Even though peppermint does not have any flowers, her leaves have a very strong scent. Peppermint's leaves are the same as flowers. I will make her my bride." Butterfly flew next to the peppermint and asked, "Miss Peppermint, would you please be my bride?"
Then the peppermint said, "Mr. Butterfly, it is autumn now. You and I are too old. Don't tell me about 'being your bride' any more." In the end,
Butterfly could not find any bride.
欢乐家庭the HAPPY FAMILY
Really, the largest GREen leaf in this country is adockleaf;if one holds it before one,it is like awhole apron, and if one h olds it over one's head inrainy weather,it is almost as good as an umbrella, for it is so immensely large. The burdock nevergrows alone, but whe re there grows one therealways grow several:it is a great delight ,and allthis delightfulness is snails' food. The great whitesnails which persons of quality in former times madefricassees of,ate,an d said,"Hem,hem!howdelicious!" for they thought it tasted so delicate——
lived on dockleaves, and thereforeburdock seeds were sown.
Now,there was an old manor-house,where they no longer ate snails, they were quiteextinct;bu t the burdocks were not extinct, they GREw and grew all over the walks and allthe beds;they could not get the mastery over them——it was a whole forest of burdocks. Here and there stood an apple and a plum-
tree,or else one never would have thought that itwas a garden;a ll was burdocks, and there lived the two last venerable old snails.
they themselves knew not how old they were, but they could reme mber very well that therehad been many more;that they were of a family from foreign lands, and that for them andtheirs the whole fo rest was planted. They had never been outside it,but they knew th at therewas still something more in the world, which was called the manor-
house, and that there theywere boiled, and then they became black, and were then placed on a silver dish;but whathappened further t hey knew not;or,in fact, what it was to be boiled, and to l
ie on a silverdish, they could not possibly imagine;but it was s aid to be delightful, and particularlygenteel. Neither the chafers, the toads, nor the earth-worms,whom they asked about itcould give them any information——none of them had been boiled or laid on a silver dish.
the old white snails were the first persons of distinction in th e world, that they knew;theforest was planted for their sake,an d the manor-
house was there that they might be boiledand laid on a silver dish.
Now they lived a very lonely and happy life;and as they had no children themselves, they hadadopted a little common snail, which they brought up as their own;but the little one wouldnot grow, for he was of a common family;but the old ones, especially Dam e Mother Snail, thought they could observe how he increased in size, and she begged father,if he could notsee it,that he would at least feel the little snail's shell;and then he felt it,and found thegood dam e was right.
One day there was a heavy storm of rain.
"Hear how it beats like a drum on the dock-leaves!" said Father Snail.
"there are also rain-drops!" said Mother Snail. "And now the rain pours right down the stalk! You will see that it will be wet here!I am very happy to think that we have our good house, and the little one has his also! There is more done for us than for all other creatures, sureenough;but can you not see that we are folks of quality in the world? We are provided witha house fro m our birth, and the burdock forest is planted for our sakes!I should like to knowhow far it extends, and what there is outside!"
"there is nothing at all," said Father Snail. "No place can be better than ours, and I havenothing to wish for!"
"Yes," said the dame. "I would willingly go to the manorhouse,be boiled, and laid on a silver dish;all our forefathers have been treated so;there is so mething extraordinary in it,you may be sure!"
"the manor-house has most likely fallen to ruin!" said Father Snail.
"Or the burdocks havegrown up over it,so that they cannot come ou t. There need not, however,be any hasteabout that;but you are always in such a tremendous hurry, and the little one is beginning tobe the same. Has he not been creeping up that stalk these three days?It gives me a headachewhen I look up to him!"
"You must not scold him," said Mother Snail. "He creeps so carefully;he will afford us muchpleasure——and we have nothing but him to live for!But have you not thought of it?Whereshall we get a wife for him?Do you not think that there are some of our species at a GREatdistance in the interior of the burdock forest?"
"Black snails,I dare say, there are enough of," said the old one. "Black snails without ahouse——but they are so common, and so conceited. But we might give the a nts acommission to look out for us;they run to and fro as if th ey had something to do,andthey certainly know of a wife for our little snail!"
"I know one, sure enough——the most charming one!" said one of the ants.
"But I am afraidwe shall hardly succeed, for she is a queen!"
"That is nothing!" said the old folks. "Has she a house?"
"She has a palace!" said the ant. "The finest ant's palace, with seven hundred passages!"
"I thank you!" said Mother Snail. "Our son shall not go into an ant-
hill;if you know nothingbetter than that,we shall give the commi ssion to the white gnats. They fly far and wide, inrain and sunshi ne;they know the whole forest here, both within and without."
"We have a wife for him," said the gnats. "At a hundred human paces from here there sits alittle snail in her house,on a gooseberry bush;she is quite lonely, and old enoug h to bemarried. It is only a hundred human paces!"
"Well, then, let her come to him!" said the old ones. "He has a whole forest of burdocks, she has only a bush!"
And so they went and fetched little Miss Snail. It was a whole week before she arrived;buttherein was just the very best of it ,for one could thus see that she was of the same species.
And then the marriage was celebrated. Six earth-
worms shone as well as they could. In otherrespects the whole went off very quietly, for the old folks could not bear noise andmerrime nt;but old Dame Snail made a brilliant speech. Father Snail could not speak,he wastoo much affected;and so they gave them as a dowry and inheritance, the whole forest ofburdocks, and said——what they had always said——
that it was the best in the world;and ifthey lived honestly and decently, and increased and multiplied, they and their children woul donce in the course of time come to the manor-
house,be boiled black, and laid on silverdishes. After this speech was made, the old ones crept into their shells, and never moreca me out. They slept;the young couple governed in the forest, and had a numerousprogeny, but they were never boiled, and never came
on the silver dishes;so from this theyconcluded that the manor-house had fallen to ruins, and that all the men in the world were extinct;and as no one contradicted them,so,of course it was s o. And the rain beat on thedock-leaves to make drum-
music for their sake, and the sun shone in order to give theburdoc k forest a color for their sakes;and they were very happy, and the whole family washappy;for they, indeed were so.

Introduction: Standard American English Tips
Speaking English is not only about using proper grammar. To use English effectively, you need to understand the culture in which it is spoken. Here are a number of important tips to remember when speaking English in the United States.

General Points to Remember
* Most Americans only speak English: While it is true that more and more Americans speak Spanish, most Americans only speak English. Don't expect them to understand your native language.

* Americans have difficulties understanding foreign accents: Many Americans are not used to foreign accents. This requires patience from both of you!

Conversation Tips
* Speak about location: Americans love to talk about location. When speaking to a stranger, ask them where they are from and then make a connection with that place. For example: "Oh, I have a friend who studied in Los Angeles. He says it's a beautiful place to live." Most Americans will then willingly talk about their experiences living or visiting that particular city or area.

* Talk about work: Americans commonly ask "What do you do?". It's not considered impolite (as in some countries) and is a popular topic of discussion between strangers.
谈论工作:美国人通常会问“What do you do?”

* Talk about sports: Americans love sports! However, they love American sports. When speaking about football, most Americans understand "American Football", not soccer.

* Be careful when expressing ideas about race, religion or other sensitive topics: The United States is a multi-cultural society. Especially in the last few years, Americans are trying very hard to be sensitive to other cultures and ideas. Talking about sensitive topics like religion or beliefs, is often avoided in order to be sure not to offend someone of a different belief system. This is often referred to as being "politically correct".

Addressing People
称呼
* Use last names with people you do not know: Address people using their title (Mr, Ms, Dr) and their last names.

* Always use "Ms" when addressing women: It is important to use "Ms" when addressing a woman. Only use "Mrs" when the woman has asked you to do so!

* Many Americans prefer first names: Americans often prefer using first names, even when dealing with people in very different positions. Americans will generally say, "Call me Tom." and then expect you to remain on a first name basis.

* Americans prefer informal: In general, Americans prefer informal greetings and using first names or nicknames when speaking with colleagues and acquaintances.

Public Behavior
* Always shake hands: Americans shake hands when greeting each other. This is true for both men and women. Other forms of greeting such as kissing on the cheeks, etc., is generally not appreciated.

* Look your partner in the eye: Americans look each other in the eyes when they are speaking as a way of showing that they are sincere.

* Don't hold hands: Same sex friends do not usually hold hands or put their arms around each other in public in the United States.

* Smoking is Out!! Smoking, even in public places, is strongly disapproved of by most Americans in the modern United States.
