二次月考英语试卷
一、阅读理解(本大题共15小题,共37.5分)

It is popular to travel by bike in China.China has a huge population. And it is said that there is at least one bike for every two people.Of course, many people in China ride bikes for sport or exercise, but it is also a much more commonly accepted means of everyday
transportation,as compared to countries such as the United States.
If you are living for a long time in China, chances are that you will want to buy your own bike so that you can use it whenever you want.Even if you don't use a bike for everyday transportation, owning one can be a great way to enjoy the sights in the
countryside. However,if you are just visiting China, renting a bike can be a more
convenient choice.
It is important to choose the correct bike for your use.You will find that in China, the
one-speed style of bike is popular. These bikes are great if you want to ride around in the city to see the sights. They are quite comfortable and easy to ride .You can often rent a bike for a day for about 15 dollars.
However,if you wish to ride on some of the rural paths,a mountain-bike style would be a better choice. They are great for different kinds of road surfaces, providing for a safer
ride.If you are planning to have a wish to tour and still be able to carry packages with you, then a touring bike would be the best choice. These are the most expensive to rent, but are very suitable for carrying packages and even some of your luggage along with you.
1.If you are traveling in Beijing, you had better ______ .
A. buy a bike
B. borrow a bike
C. steal a bike
D. rent a bike
2.Which of the following is the advantage of the one-speed bike?______

Many people turn to doctors or self-help books, but they ignore a powerful thing that could help them fight illness:their friends.
Researchers are only now starting to pay attention to the importance of friendship in
health.A 10-year Australian study found that old people with a large circle of friends were
22 per cent less likely to die during the study period than those with fewer friends.A large
2007 study showed an increase of nearly 60 percent in the risk for obesity among people whose friends gained weight. And last year,Harvard researchers reported that strong social ties could improve brain health as we age.
"In general, the role of friendship in our lives isn't well realised," said Rebecca,a professor at the University of North Carolina. "Friendship has a bigger effect on our psychological health than family relationships."
While many friendship studies are about the close relationships of women, some research shows that men can benefit, too. In a six-year study of 736 middle-aged men, having
friendships reduces the risk of heart attack.Only smoking was as important a risk factor as having little social support.
Exactly why friendship has such a big effect isn't entirely clear. While friends can send a sick person to the hospital or pick up medicine, the benefits go well beyond physical
assistance.Friendship clearly has a big psychological effect. "People with stronger
friendships feel like there is someone they can turn to," said Karen,a doctor. "The message of these studies is that friends make your life better."
4.The three studies in the second paragraph show that ______ .
A. old people need friends the most
B. friends can help us lose weight
C. social ties are connected to health
D. more friends make us healthier
5.What does the underlined sentences mean?______

C. smoking is bad for men
D. friends' influence on habits
7.What would be the best title of the text?______

B. Friends Are as Important as a Family
C. Having Good Friends Leads to a Healthier Life
D. Friendship Makes People Happy

Can you imagine a world without music?Studies show that public schools across the country are cutting back on music classes to save money.Even worse, some schools have never had music classes to begin with. But without them, students' academic(学术的)growth and spiritual health could suffer. In fact, music classes are necessary for all students in schools.
Recent studies by Brown University have shown that students who received music
education classes were better in maths and reading skills than those without music
classes.Another study by the College Board found that students taking music and art
classes got higher scores.Students' academic success seems to depend on their taking part in music education.
Music programs in public schools also help to add to students' sense of pride and
self-confidence.Teens today have too many learning tasks.Besides, they have family
problems,self-confidence problems, relationship troubles, and choices about smoke and alcohol. All of these can stop academic success, but music education can help.A study by the Texas Communication on Drug and Alcohol Abuse found that students who took part in school music programs were less likely to turn to smoke .Music programs encourage students to work together to produce an excellent performance.
Music crosses language, class and culture .Music allows students from different countries to connect. For example,at a school talent show,a new Japanese student played a piano
duet(二重奏)with an American classmate. Two students from different cultures worked as a team with self-confidence and a common purpose through music.
The gift of music is priceless. We need to be sure to have necessary music classes for all students. The world is losing its music, and putting music into schools is the first step to get it back.
8.What do the studies show in Paragraph 2?______
A. Students with great success attend music lessons.
B. Music classes play an important role in students' growth.
C. Not all students could have music classes at school.
D. Students who have music classes do better in all subjects.
9.What does the example in paragraph 4 mainly suggest?______
A. Music makes cross-cultural communication possible.
B. Different cultures have different styles of music.

10.What can we learn about education with music classes?______

D. It does good to students' academic success and spiritual health.
11.What is the best title for the text?______

We've all heard that eating fruit and vegetables is healthy for us.But now there's an added reason:It will put you in a better mood.
Researchers analysed 41 studies on depression and discovered that people who followed a diet high in vegetables, fruit, fish and nuts had a 33 percent lower risk of developing
depression compared to those who followed a diet high in foods such as processed meat and trans fat.The study authors said the reason why this diet may be effective against
depression is that farm produce takes up more room in this famous diet. "Making a
lifestyle change such as changing your diet is often preferred over taking medicines," said study author Dr Laurel Cherian.
In an April 2020 study, researchers found that those who ate raw produce reported less depressive symptoms and higher life satisfaction and more positive attitude compared to those who ate more canned, cooked or processed fruit and vegetables. "This research is increasingly important as lifestyle ways such as food change may provide a safe approach to mental health," said Dr Tamlin Conner.
Of course,if you want to make it your goal to hit eight servings of fruit or vegetables a day,you need to know how much a serving is.Getting in eight servings of fruit and
vegetables might seem daunting if you're not used to it,but this is the perfect season to change your ways. It's a lot easier to get in that amount when your choices are rich and you can enjoy watermelons, fresh grapes or locally grown tomatoes.Building up this new habit now will make it easier to continue your goal during the winter, when choices aren't rich.
12.What advice may Dr Laurel Cherian give to a depressed person?______
A. Taking effective medicines.
B. Eating more vegetables and fruit.
C. Eating more red meat.
D. Choosing processed foods.
13.What was proved in an April 2020 study?______
A. Eating raw produce improves mental health.
B. People may change their ways of lifestyle.
C. Life satisfaction depends on your eating.
D. You may get depressed after eating raw produce.
14.What does the underlined word "daunting" mean?______
A. Interesting.
B. Puzzling.
C. Frightening.
D. Interested.
15.What might be the best title for the text?______
A. Produce in Your Diet Helps You Lose Weight
B. Your Health Is Decided by What You Eat
C. A Balanced Diet Is Good for Your Mental Health
D. Fruit and Vegetables May Keep the Blues Away

As a fourteen-year-old girl, you may think that the biggest problem you can probably face is failing one of your classes in high school, but not everything is as easy as it seems. My parents are going through a lot lately. We recently moved from Houston and bought a
house in Dallas, and my dad had almost no money left in the bank due to the fact that he had to pay the water and electricity company in order for them to be available in my house.
My brother,who was a nice,happy,free-caring six-year-old boy,just like every
other, started to become very distant from us the first week we moved into the house. As much as we tried to ask him what was wrong,he wouldn't tell us.I was really confused by the way he acted, because he normally was a nice and kind little boy who would often go out and play with the neighbours and would just be outside, enjoying the day. That little boy completely turned around and became a very distant, cold child. He would keep silent and sit in his room the whole day with the door closed. He would not go out even for supper, and we were wondering what happened.
We went to talk to his teacher who said that he was very shy when it came to talking in front of the other kids, but he had developed a little confidence and started to play with the kids in his class. The teacher mentioned that he and a kid from a higher level started "hanging out" away from the rest of the kids.My mum thought of it as a good
thing, thinking it meant that my brother had started to make new friends, but I knew it meant something else.I tried talking to my brother even though he didn't want to,but he didn't say anything dealing with the bigger kid.
Paragraph 1:
Until one day,he came home, crying, and it seemed I was the only one who
