Dear Editor,
I am writing to tell you about the survey I've made on"Using paper cards or e-cards? " in our class.

【答案】
Dear Editor,
I am writing to tell you about the survey I've made on"Using paper cards or e-cards? " in our class.
About 30% of the students want to use paper cards. First of all, they are made by hand andthey can show people's real feelings. Second, they are easy to take and can be kept for long.Thirdly, people can read them without computers.
However, around 70% of the students prefer to use e-cards. For one thing, e-cards can carrylots of information and people can send them quickly. For another thing, using e-cards can savepaper so that our environment can be protected well. What's more, people can make various de-signs they like.
I think we'd better use e-cards more to save natural resources. But on some particular occa-sions, we can also use paper cards to show our real feelings.
Yours sincerely,
Wang Qiang

Dinosaurs Are Among Us
Dinosaurs ruled the planet for mil lions﹣ of years, and they are generally believed to have gone extinct. By the reality is that modem versions of dinosaurs are all around us. Scientists have been exploring similarities between birds and dinosaurs, and new research shows that these two types of animals are directly linked.
The connections between birds and dinosaurs are explored in a new museum exhibit called Dinosaurs Among Us at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
Mark Norell, the chair of the division of paleontology at the museum, is the curator of the exhibit. He said it is based on new scientific evidence collected over the last two decades. UI think this is really going to shake up the way people think of dinosaurs,Norell told reporters at a preview event. "One could argue that we still live in the age of dinosaurs."
The exhibit includes ancient fossils and lifelike models of dinosaurs of all sizes to show the evolution of dinosaurs into birds. It examines several features that are shared between the two species, including feathers, complex brains, the shapes and sizes of eggs, and the ability to fly.Paleontologists have discovered that many dinosaurs had
feathers. Thousands of feathered dinosaur fossils have been found in China in the last 15 years, according to Norell. Today, birds are the only feathered animals alive.
Birds today make nests, lay eggs and tend to babies. Fossil research shows that some dinosaurs also laid eggs and made nests.
Also, birds have wishbones and hollow bones, which are bones that don't weigh much and allow birds to take more air into their lungs. These adaptations help with flight. Some dinosaurs had these features as well. In addition, the exhibit shows that there are many similarities between the legs, claws, and feet of dinosaurs and birds.
Norell noted that the research behind this exhibit is the result of advanced scientific techniques and new technologies. For example, researchers used a scanning process called computed tomography (CT) to look inside the brains of extinct dinosaurs. CTs combine many X﹣rays to produce a 3D image.
"Modern technology tells us more than we thought we could ever know about the connections between dinosaurs and birds," Norell said.

A Tragedy in Manchester
Tragedy struck Manchester,England on Monday evening, as a suicide bomber detonated an explosive (爆炸物)at an Ariana Grande concert. The explosive killed 22 people and wounded several more. Police have identified the bomber as Salman Abedi, a Manchester resident, but many questions remain unanswered. The terrorist organization, ISIS, has claimed responsibility.
At 10:33 PM on Monday evening, Salman Abedi detonated an explosive he had created near one of the exits in Britain's Manchester Arena. The arena was filled with teenagers and families watching pop star Ariana Grande perform.
The explosive set off. Within seconds, thousands of people rushed for the exits. Police quickly identified the bomber as Salman Abedi, who was born in Manchester to a family that had fled Libya in the 1990s.Remarkably, after only two days, police have caught and arrested several people including Abedi's father and two brothers, who were also involved in the attack. The bomb appears to be very intricately (复杂地)designed﹣indicating that Abedi likely did not plan this on his own.
In the aftermath of the bombing, a homeless man went to the aid of victims and saved several lives. Taxi drivers offered free taxi rides while others opened up their homes to fleeing concert﹣goers. An attack like this, that represents the very worst of humanity, often inspires the best of humanity.UK Prime Minister Theresa May raises thread to ‘ Critical' in response to the bombing, and the UK raised its terror threat level from Severe to Critical, the highest level. Critical means that another attack is expected
imminently. Armed troops are flanking most of London's streets,as well as the Prime Minister's office,Parliament, and other important buildings. The Manchester bombing is the latest in a series of 13 terror attacks that have rocked Europe over the past two years. Most of them have been orchestrated by ISIS, a terrorist group that seeks to destroy Europe. ISIS has declared an Islamic nation, over all the territory it controls in the Middle East.
Efforts are being made by the US and other countries to push back on ISIS. The good news is that the war against ISIS is likely to be won. But even so, the world is paying a heavy cost. All of us hope that the Manchester attack is the last of its kind, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this terrible tragedy.

Onions are known for flavoring those delicious dishes, but did you know that they were also nutritious? It's true! These flavorful onions contain a ton of nutrients that are important for our overall well﹣being. Let's see more about onion nutrition and why they're so good for you.
Here are the nutrition facts for onions, according to the USDA. Onions are very low in calories and do have a little bit of carbohydrates and natural sugars ﹣ that's why they get sweet when you cook them. Here's what you get in one medium onion.
Onions contain several vitamins and minerals and they have been shown to promote health in many ways. In ancient times, onions were used for food when food sources got low, and for medicinal purposes to treat illness such as headaches, colds, and heart disease.
Onions contain anti﹣inflammatory properties that may help reduce the attack of high blood pressure. One of powerful antioxidants that is responsible for this health benefit is quercetin. Quercetin is a flavonoid antioxidant that has been associated with decreasing the risk of heart disease.
For centuries, onions have been used to fight off dangerous bacteria(细菌). Quercetin, is also responsible for this bacteria﹣fighting benefit. According to recent studies, the growth of bacteria, like H. pylori and MRSA were controlled when they were paired with quercetin taken from yellow onions.
Research indicates that onions may help people with diabetes(糖尿病) lower their blood sugar. This is due to the sulfur compounds found in onions, specifically S﹣methylcysteine and quercetin. These compounds have been associated with regulating one's blood sugar.
Eat an onion. Well, maybe not a whole onion at one sitting, but definitely try adding them to your next recipe.
【答案】Onions are not only making dishes delicious but also extremely nutritious with vitamins and minerals which help to promote impressive health benefits.

School uniforms are becoming more and more popular across the U.S.A. That's no surprise, because they offer many benefits. They immediately end the powerful social sorting and labeling (标记) that come from clothing. If all students are dressed in the same way, they will not pay too much attention to their clothing, and some of them will not be laughed at for wearing the "wrong" clothes.
Some people are against the strict rule of school uniforms, but they do not realize that students already accept a kind of rule ﹣ wanting to look just like their friends. The difference is that the clothing students choose for themselves creates social barriers(障碍); school uniforms tear those barriers down.
As in other places, uniforms remind the wearers of their purposes and duties. For example, when a man or woman puts on a police uniform, he or she becomes, for a time, the symbol (象征) of law and order. The
uniform means to the wearer his or her special duties and sends the same message to everyone the wearer meets. People with different jobs wear uniforms of one kind or another. For students, the school uniform reminds them that their task for the six or seven hours they are in school is to get an education.
Some parents are unhappy about uniforms, saying that school uniforms will affect their children's "creativity". Actually, as noted above, the clothes students choose to wear do not necessarily express their individuality. They just copy their classmates. Students have the rest of the day to be as creative as they like. While they're in school, their job is to master reading, writing, and mathematics; this should take up all the creativity they have. Mastery of those skills will be good for the students to build up their creativity in every way.
【答案】School uniforms prevail throughout the U.S.A. as they benefit students a lot.
(校服在美国受欢迎)While some people are opposed to them, school uniforms satisfy students' desire to dress similarly like their classmates, which can end social barriers.【高分句型一】

(提醒学生学习是首要任务)Some parents blame kids' being less creative on wearing uniforms, but real creativity is based on their mastery of knowledge and skills through schooling.【高分句型二】

Around the world, music therapy (疗法)is being used to treat different medical conditions and illnesses. Some of the ways people use music therapy are to reduce pain, such as in childbirth or during cancer treatments, or to stimulate brain activity after an injury. Music therapy has also been successful in aiding children to overcome disabilities. Children can move their bodies with the music and stamp along to the beat.
Why is music a useful therapy? Being comforting and relaxing, music stimulates our brains. We respond to the sounds of music emotionally and physically. The complexity of music (the different tempos, rhythms, melodies and harmonies) provokes (激发)the biggest response. Thus, classical music is most typically used for therapies due to complex sounds and patterns. Although rap or hip hop might be fun to listen to, it's unlikely that such styles of music would produce the same kind of therapeutic effect. Playing a musical instrument rather than simply listening to music can also be therapeutic for some people, helping relieve stress and anxiety.
Have scientists been able to prove that music can heal diseases? Music has been shown to reduce pain by increasing the release of endorphins (内啡肽). Endorphins are the body's natural painkillers, and when we listen to music, our brains respond by releasing these natural painkillers. It has also been known to contribute to the brain development of the babies who have just been born and even babies still in the mother's womb. Certain types of music have also been found to lower blood pressure and slow a person's heart rate. Many people are hopeful that music could replace the need for some medicines that are normally used to treat certain illnesses. At present, music therapy is used in a variety of settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, day cares, and schools.
Although music therapy is not yet considered a mainstream treatment, it is recognized more and more as a useful addition to traditional treatment. So next time you are feeling low or stressed out, put on some relaxing music and let the music heal you.
【答案】Music therapy is a useful way to treat various illnesses worldwide.
(音乐疗法)The reason is that comforting music or playing musical instruments can activate our brain and help ease pressure and anxiety.【高分句型一】
(原因)Music has already been proved to generate positive effects of reducing pain, developing the babies' brain, lowering blood pressure and slowing heart rate.

What Your Desk Says About You
Are you the kind of person whose desk is always clean and tidy? Or is it a bit of a mess? How you organise your working space can say a lot about you. In fact, environmental psychologist Lily Bemheimer developed five distinct "desk personality types" in a study commissioned by UK co﹣working firm Headspace Group. Which of them best reflects you?
First up: are you "the clutterer"? Clutter means mess﹣and Bemheimer says a clutterer's desk is likely to be colorful, chaotic and covered in trinkets. These people are usually more extroverted and welcoming, and love being at the "crossroads" of the office. The problem is that they're often too busy to tidy up after themselves!
Or perhaps you're "the minimalist"?A polar opposite to the clutterer, the minimalist has nothing unnecessary on his or her desk. These workers are often highly conscientious and disciplined,if a little cautious. But Bemheimer says this does not necessarily mean they're introverts﹣they just love structure.
Type three is "the expander". Personal space is very important to them, and it creeps ever outwards, even if this is not a consciously aggressive act. Berheimer says,They may try to claim more and more area for themselves by moving their coffee cup and their sandwich out further and further.
"The personaliser" is our fourth type, and it's quite self﹣explanatory. These people customize their space with photos, mementos and personal objects. UA simple, stylish or unusual workspace tells people that you're high in the character called ‘openness',which means you're likely to be high in creativity, intellectuality and openness to new experience, says Bemheimer.
And finally, there's "the surveyor". These people feel insecure in the middle of the office, and seek out the quieter comers. From an evolutionary perspective, looking for well﹣protected spots from which to keep an eye out for potential threats makes sense. Surveyors are often introverted, but also highly productive and creative, if given the space and support they need.
Whichever type you are, making personal statements through presentation is deep in our nature, says Sam Gosling, the professor of psychology at the University of Texas. "One of the reasons physical spaces, including one's office desks, can be so revealing is that they're essentially the crystallization (缩影)of a lot of behaviour over time."

Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon? Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness. Or, in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time—about eight hours after you wake up—your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy. Scientists have tested sleep habits in experiments where
there was no night or day. The people in these experiments almost always followed a similar sleeping pattern. They slept for one long period and then for one short period about eight hours later.
In many parts of the world, people take naps(小睡)in the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer climates, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon. Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone in any climate. A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind and therefore is good for health in general. In countries where naps are traditional, people often suffer less from problem such as heart disease.
Many working people, unfortunately, have no time to take naps. Though doctors may advise taking naps, employers do not allow it! If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap. Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up. A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterward. This can also happen if you sleep for too long. If you do not have enough time, try a short nap—even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.

Perhaps you think you could easily add to your happiness with more money. Strange as it may seem, if you're unsatisfied, the issue is not a lack of means to meet your desires but a lack of desires—not that you cannot satisfy your tastes but that you don't have enough tastes.
Real riches consist of well-developed and hearty abilities to enjoy life. Most people are already swamped(淹没)with things. They eat, wear, go and talk too much. They live in a too big house with too many rooms, yet their house of life is a hut(小屋). Your house of life ought to be a mansion(大厦), a royal palace. Every new taste, every additional interest, every fresh enthusiasm adds a room. Here are several rooms your house of life should have.
Art should be a desire for you to develop simply because the world is full of beautiful things. If you only understood how to enjoy them and feed your spirit on them, they would make you as happy as to find plenty of ham and eggs when you're hungry. Literature, classic literature, is a beautiful, richly-furnished room where you might find many an hour of rest and refreshment. To gain that love would go toward making you a rich person, for a rich person is not someone who has a library but who likes a library. Music like Mozart's and Bach's shouldn't be absent. Real riches are of the spirit. And when you've brought that spirit up to where classical music feeds it and makes you a little drunk, you have increased your thrills and bettered them. And life is a matter of thrills. Sports, without which you remain poor, mean a lot in life. No matter who you are, you would be more human. And your house of life would be better supported against the bad days, if you could, and did, play a bit.
Whatever rooms you might add to your house of life, the secret of enjoying life is to keep adding.
【答案】
People add more money and things to their happiness, but some of them are unsatisfied because they lack desires and additional interests. Art,。
