hide. I remember seeing many of my
friends killed and wounded.
We then tried to get off the beach by running left and right. It was difficult with a heavy pack. And I’ve never forgotten how relieved I felt when I got to the first sand bands and could rest for about twenty minutes.

I will never forget the things that happened to me on 6th June 1944.
I’ll never forget learning to ride a bike. At that time I only had a scooter. I was round at my friend Peter’s house. He and his brothers and sisters all had bikes. I remember trying to ride one of his little brothers’ bikes. It was small, and I kept falling off. I remember how Peter kept laughing at me.
I was with a group of about seven other soldiers from my company. The first thing we saw when we got off the beach was another company, so we joined that, and started the long fight to Paris. I will never forget the things that happened to me on 6th June 1944.
