第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21.(6分)The key to getting people to work together effectively could be giving them the freedom to choose their collaborators (合作者) and the comfort of working with established contacts, new research suggests.
In the study, David Melamed, an assistant professor of sociology at the Ohio State University and lead author of the study, and his co-authors found participants through the Amazon Mechanical Turk website — a service that allows researchers to hire people from around the world for a variety of purposes. For this study, all participants were from the United States.
Those who agreed to participate played online games in which each player started out with 1,000 monetary units that translated to $1 in real money they could pocket. If one player agreed to pay another player 50 monetary units, that second person would actually acquire 100 units. Each of the 16-round games included about 25 participants, some of whom participated in multiple games. In all, 810 people participated in the research.
Some of the games included random networks, where certain people could interact. Others included clustered (群集的) networks, in which a small group had multiple connections — an arrangement that was designed to mimic (模拟) real life, where humans often run their lives in packs. And the networks were either static (静态的) or dynamic (动态的). In static networks, a player could interact only with the appointed partners. In dynamic networks, participants could cut their ties with another player and form new connections. Furthermore, some of the games included reputation information. Participants were labeled based on their history of willingness to share money. The idea was to test whether those known to collaborate were favored by other players based on reputation — a factor shown in previous research to play a significant role in whether a person is likely to partner with another.
Melamed and his research partners were surprised to find that whether people are likely to partner with others had nothing to do with reputation in this study. The findings might have departed from previous studies because of the difference in size and study design, he said, explaining that much of the previous work in this area was conducted in groups of 100 or fewer and mostly involved student subjects. The Turk network used for the new study has been shown to be representative of the U.S. population in terms of age, race and other factors and the introduced players had no previous connections.
Cooperation rates overall were high — and highest when the participants were cooperating in clusters and had the ability to drop a partner in favor of another. “What really seems to mat ter is the ability to change the structure of a network,” Melamed said. “And the patterns of relationships also made a difference. Those in a known cluster with multiple connections cooperated more.”
1、What did David Melamed and his partners do for their study?
A.They hired 810 people globally.
B.They gave each participant $1,000.
C.They designed 16-round online games.
D.They asked each participant to take part in only one game.
2、Compared with previous research, the new study found that _____.
A.reputation played no role in cooperation
B.student subjects were more likely to partner with others
C.players having connections before were more cooperative
D.cooperation rates were influenced by age, race and other factors
3、It can be inferred that the purpose of the study led by David Melamed is to discover _____.
A.how to change the patterns of relationships
B.what leads people to collaborate most willingly
C.what kind of person is the most popular in a team
D.whether it’s proper to drop a partner in favor of ano ther
22.(8分)This is the most exciting kayaking expedition(皮划艇探险)possible for beginner kayakers. You can expect to experience a whole range of different conditions and scenery. This expedition is a total of 8. 27 km in distance and it actually enters the streams in the North of Ubin and exits in the South.
Three and a half kilometers of pure mangroves(红树林), makes this the longest pure mangrove kayaking expedition in Singapore. The distance spent inside the mangrove gives you the maximum opportunity to witness wildlife within the mangrove ecosystem. Come experience the challenge of operating your kayak through the labyrinth(迷宫)of waterways and be amazed at the calm and quiet beauty of the wetlands. This last corner of natural wilderness in Singapore is so inaccessible, that very, very few have ever experienced it-which makes this a truly special program. Most Recent Traveler Reviews
Traveler A: Traveled from bottom to top of Singapore in rush hour traffic in order to get to Ubin for a 9:30 start—only to find no guide there. Although, once he arrived, the guide was lovely—offering a very knowledgeable tour and lots of enthusiasm around a beautiful part of the world—our 6-hour kayaking trip was actually over before 2:30 pm, despite only hitting the water at 12 noon.
Traveler B: The guides were nice, however the biggest disappointment was the timing. We thought we were going for a 4-hour kayak but were back in 2 hours and that included the prekayak safety talk. The mangroves are lovely but we were told that a storm was near. We felt that there had never been any intention of going out for longer.

23.(8分)On a recent spring morning. Susan Alexander, a retired government intelligence analyst, left her Maryland home, climbed into her Volkswagen Passat and drove about three miles to pick up two strangers. She battled rush-hour traffic on the Capital Beltway and George Washington Memorial Parkway before dropping them off at Reagan National Airport. She didn't earn a cent for her trouble, and that was the point.
Alexander is a member of the Silver Spring Time Bank-one of more than 100 such exchanges around the world trying to build community by exchanging time credits for services instead of dollars and cents. “I have time,” she said. “I like giving the gift of time to other people. “
In Alexander's case, passengers Mary and Al Liepold were grateful for the ride, but it wasn't charity. Mary,a retired writer and editor for nonprofit organizations, used time credits she banked for editing work and baking. Senior citizens who don't drive, the Liepolds cashed in their credits to catch a flight to Montreal for a five-day vacation.
Without money changing hands or shifting between virtual accounts, the airport drop-off was more like a coffee party than a taxi ride. Driver and passengers chatted about projects they've completed for the time bank, and no one raised an eyebrow when Mary said she likes “to avoid the conventional economy. “
“The beauty of this is that you make friends,” Mary Liepold said. “You don't just get services.”
The Silver Spring Time Bank formed in 2015 and has about 300 members, said co-founder Mary Murphy. Last
year, she said, l,000 hours were exchanged for basic home repairs, dog walking, cooking and tailoring, among other services, without the exchange of money. “ Y ou get to save that money that you would have spent,” she said. “You get to meet somebody else in your community and get to know that person. That's a bonus that's part of an exchange. “
A deal performed partly to make friends would seem to go against classical economics and one of Benjamin Franklin's most memorable sayings:”Time is money. “ To those at the forefront of modem time-banking, that is the appeal.
1、What's the main purpose of the Silver Spring Time Bank?
A.To better serve the local economy.
B.To help people get to know more friends.
C.To provide the elderly with timely financial help.
D.To build community by exchanging time credits for services.
2、How did the Liepolds pay for their ride?
A.In cash. B.By credit card.
C.By cheque. D.With time credits.
3、What does the underlined word “that” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.Making friends. B.Classical economics.
C.Modem time-banking. D.Franklin's famous saying.
4、What is the suitable title for the text?
A.Time is money B.The more friends, the better
C.Giving the gift of time D.Swapping time credits for services

However, does size really matter? Are teenage fans trying hard to become like their idols? Do famous stars really have the power to influence people especially teenagers?
For the longest time, many parents blame (责备) teen idols for influencing the way their kids act. Have you noticed how teens idolize the stars these days? 25.(10分)The analysis in The Lancet looks at obesity (肥胖) trend in over 200 countries. In the UK, one in every 10 young people aged 5 to 19, is obese. Obese children are likely to become obese –adults, posting them at risk of serious health problems, say experts.
