Since the Chinese government introduced the first official guideline to boost people’s fitness level, sports and physical activity related industries have made extraordinary achievements. That a large number of playgrounds and parks have been built across the country shows the Chinese people, in general, are more serious about physical fitness today than in the past. The novel coronavirus pandemic may have had a negative impact on the national fitness campaign, but it has also made people more aware of the importance of physical fitness, which plays a key role in boosting immunity against diseases. As such, many people have started exercising at home—as many gyms were closed because of the pandemic. And various sports agencies and enterprises have started online workout courses.

Part 3 Individual Presentation
Tips for Making an Effective Presentation
Be Fair and Objective 1. Start from Facts: A fair and objective presentation requires the
faithful representation of all the persons, events, conditions and effects concerned with the statement. It might also require the accurate representation of people and things that are closely related to the speaker. When preparing for a presentation, fairminded people examine both sides of an issue before forming an opinion, and bear “Start from Facts” in mind to avoid any arbitrary conclusion. In the above presentation, this principle is clearly shown in the expressions like “the Ministry of Education released a statement” and “students have different levels of physical condition”.

Tips for Making an Effective Presentation
2. Avoid Making Overstatements and Understatements: A fair and objective presentation needs reasoning as well. Try to reason objectively and reduce emotional influences on your decision. To achieve this, avoid making any overstatement and understatement of your cases. That is, give an accurate reflection of facts, rather than exaggerate or overlook some details. You are advised to think critically and consider the pros and cons of the topic to ensure you make it. In the above presentation, you may find the sentences like “Fairly speaking, everyone knows the importance of physical exercise in maintaining good health” and “However, students are rarely seen playing in the playground after class.” All these could make the statement more objective and avoid overstatements and understatements.

2 Answer the following questions. For each question, you will have 20 seconds to respond.
1 Read the following questionnaire and make your choices. Report your choices and explain one of them briefly.
Part 1 Warm Up
2 Answer the following questions.
If I were asked about whether the Physical Fitness Test for college students should be listed as one of the compulsory courses, I would definitely say yes. As I know, the Ministry of Education released a statement regarding the standards for physical education as early as in 2014, which showed great concern over college students’ fitness. Fairly speaking, everyone knows the importance of physical exercise in maintaining good health. However, students are rarely seen playing in the playground after class. Instead, they prefer to play games online or browse social media apps on smartphones in the dormitory. Therefore, it’s reasonable to set some regulations on physical exercise among students. Meanwhile, the regulations could be more flexible since students have different levels of physical condition. Thank you.
