13、For 21 years, Georges Bwelle watched his ill father traveling to hospitals, which could not offer him all necessary help.
Jamef Bwelle suffered only a broken arm at first, but it finally developed into a hematoma. That would affect (影响) him for the rest of his life. Bwelle spent years taking his father to overcrowded (过于拥挤的) hospitals. It was not easy. They would leave home at 5 a.m. and ran to the hospital to be the first. There were a lot of patients. Some people could die because they were waiting.
The situation hasn’t changed much since Bwelle’s father died in 2002. In Cameroon, there is one doctor for every 5,000 people while in the United States there is one doctor for every 413 people. And even if they could see a doctor, many Cameroonians couldn’t afford it.
When he saw his father and so many of his countrymen suffer, Bwelle decided to do something about it. He became a doctor himself. And he started an organization, ASCOVIME. It travels into the countryside on weekends to provide free medical care. Since 2008, he and his group of volunteers have helped nearly 32,000 people.
Almost every Friday, his team jam into vans and travel to villages in need. In each trip they receive 500 people. Patients come on foot from 60 kilometers around the village for free treatment. The next morning, the team will do simple operations in a school house, town hall or home, and work into the early hours of Sunday morning.
On Sunday, the team heads back to the city, tired but proud of their work. They know that their help can make a world of difference to those they help.
For his devotion to his country and people, Georges Bwelle becomes one of the 2013 Heroes voted throughout the world.

14、Hard Work Makes Dreams Come True
Astronaut Ellen Ochoa shows that with a good education and hard work, you can reach for the stars. Ochoa is the first Hispanic astronaut woman to fly into space.
As a child, Ochoa didn’t know what she wanted to be when she grew up. But her mother always told her to stay in school and study hard. She listened to her mother. When she was 13 years old, she won a spelling contest. In high school, Ochoa spent many hours each week studying for all her classes. She finished with the best grades in her class. After high school, Ochoa went to college. One day in college she heard that the U.S. government had chosen six women to become astronauts. At that time, Ochoa decided to become an astronaut, too.
Her many years of hard work paid off at last. She was asked to be an astronaut in 1990. In April, 1993 in the space shuttle(航天飞机) named Discovery, she made history by becoming the first Hispanic woman to travel to space. Ochoa and the other astronauts had many jobs while on the Discovery. One of her tasks was to use the shuttle’s robot arm to move large objects. Ochoa used a computer to make the arm pick up a satellite and put it into space. A satellite is a spacecraft that moves around the earth or some other objects. Satellites can take pictures and gather information about planets and stars. During her second trip in 1994, she used the robot arm again. She used the arm to pull in a satellite
from space. The satellite had been used to study the air around the earth. Then Ochoa went to two more shuttle trips. Altogether, she spent a whole month in space. T hat’s more than 700 hours.

16、Many Chinese girls love "small, fresh meat", which refers to young, effeminate(女人气的) male stars. However, not everyone is a fan of them. On Sept. 6, an article described some male stars as too effeminate.
This came after CCTV was criticized for inviting several young male stars to perform on First Class for the New Semester,an educational TV show for primary and secondary school students, which aired 5days earlier. After that, many parents left comments online, saying the stars in the show had a bad influence on their children.
The popularity of effeminate male stars is partly down to the influence of Japanese and South Korean pop culture, an expert told China Daily. However, the “femininity” of males isn't a recent social phenomenon. In fact, being effeminate was popular among Chinese men centuries ago.
Indeed, the debate about effeminate male stars has been going on for a while. In July, a Hong Kong singer said
during the singing reality show Sing! China that he feels tired of seeing effeminate male sta rs. “It isn't that they're not good, but we should discover ourselves.”He said during the show.
His opinion was shared by a Chinese director. “Some young actors are feminine and they should be more manly,” he said.
Deng Xiquan, head of the Y outh Research Institute at the China Youth and Children Research Center, believes such a phenomenon is completely natural.“It will be replaced by a new youth culture at some stage. If a man has feminine beauty, this doesn't mean that he lacks responsibility,” Deng told C hina Daily. Deng's opinion was echoed by the People's Daily.“A man's strength should be judged on the basis of their inner qualities - not their phyical apperance,” it wrote.

19、Dear Tonny,
Nice to hear from you. As a middle school student, I’m always ready to help others.
I still remember I helped a girl with her maths when we were in Grade Eight. Li Hong, one of my classmates, was not good at maths, but I did well. So one day, I went to help her . Her big smile made me feel good. From then on, whenever she had problems, she would ask me for help, and I was patient to explain them to her. Little by little, her maths improved with my help. At the same time, I found my maths better too.
Everyone may have trouble in life and we should help each other. In fact, helping others is helping ourselves.
Yours
Zhang Hua。
