The relations between man and wife are changing. A majority of working women remain in full charge of their home; they e back at night to the cleaning, washing, and cooking that constitute their second career. But more and more husbands are sharing the burden and willingly taking on chores that their fathers would have rejected as unmanly, and as too mysteriously difficult anyway. In such cases, man and wife bee equal partners, both working outside, both pushing the vacuum cleaner, actually, the number of husbands who do help that way is much smaller than the number of those who accept the idea in theory. And when the equal partnership is a fact, it doesn't always work well. The marriage can be destroyed when the wife is more successful in her profession than her husband in his, particularly when she earns more than he does. Sociologists see in this situation one of the main reasons for the increase in the divorce rate-another reason being the husband's refusal to help with the housework or the care of the children. There are robots all around us,Some do very plicated jobs like flying airplanes and driving subway trains. And some do a simple job. When an automatic washing machine is switched on, water pours in. The machine waits until the water is hot before washing the clothes. It does this by “feedback”. Information about what is happening is “feedback”into the robot to tell it what to do next. Our eyes, ears and other senses are our feedback. They tell us what is going on around us. So robots are like people in two ways:They work and they have feedback.
There are robots all around, making our lives easier. Some of them, like the pocket calculator, can work much more quickly than human beings can. And they rarely make mistakes. In some ways robots are better than people. They work quickly, but do not make mistakes. They do not get bored doing the same job over andover again. And they never get tired.
Robots are very useful in factories. They can be taught to do many different jobs. First their electronic brains must be shown how the job is done. A person moves the robot's“arm”and“hand”through each part of the job. The robot's brain remembers each move. When the robot is put to work on its own, its brain controls the rods, wheels and motors which move its arm.
When the robot is needed for a new job, its electronic memory is“wiped clean.”Then it is taught how to do its new task. If the robot's hand stops working, or if something gets in the way, it cannot do the next part of the job. So it stops and signals for help, then a human engineer repairs it.
The most“intelligent”robots can move and see. Their eyes are cameras. Their metal fingers can feel shapes and even find out how hot and cold objects are. These robots have puter brains, linked to their eyes and fingers, which control their actions.

A. They will probably take over in the future.
B. They are very helpful and useful to humans.
C. They are machines that are often out of order.
D. They are not friends of human beings.
34.Since people like what robots do, what do you think this means for the future?
A. More and better robots will be built.
B. People will stop making robots.
C. There will be laws against using robots.
D. Robots will benefit nobody.

A. head

Jeremy Wirick, 9, has been back in school for less than two months, but he has already had several asthma(哮喘) attacks. A recent attack happened on October 2, after he pushed himself too hard in gym class. Running, power walking, jogging and push-ups took their toll. When Jeremy got home an hour or two later, he was out of breath. He needed to use a nebulizer, a machine that helps send medicine quickly to the lungs, to get his breathing back to normal.
Asthma attacks like Jeremy increase in September and October. More than six times as many asthma sufferers who are elementary-school age need hospital treatment in the fall as in the summer.
Experts believe many factors can contribute to back-to-school asthma. Kids get together in close spaces, they start passing viruses around. A viral infection can cause an asthma attack. There are also certain fall allergies(过敏症) that can cause attacks. Exercise is another mon cause of an attack. Besides, the stress of school can make asthma worse.
Parents can play a big role in helping kids with asthma start the school year right. Dawne Gee's 10-year-old son, Alexander, has had asthma since he was a baby. Before the school year starts, she tells school workers in writing about her son's asthma.
The Gees live in Kentucky, which has passed laws allowing students to carry their asthma medication(药物治疗)with them at school. Alexander's mom makes sure he has his inhaler(人工呼吸器)with him when he goes to school and that he keeps it on hand at all times. In Delaware, where Jeremy lives, kids are allowed to carry their
inhalers at school.
The American Lung Association says that about 6.2 million American children
suffer from asthma. Asthma is the chronic (慢性) illness that causes students to
miss the most days of school. There are many things that schools can do to help
students control their asthma.

hands with him, anyway.”

Owens'Olympic victories made little difference to him. He earned his living by looking after a school playground, and accepted money to race against cars, trucks, motorcycles and dogs.
“Sure, it bothered me,”he said later.“But at least it was an honest living.
I had to eat.”

Almost Human?
Scientists are racing to build the world's first thinking robot. This is not science fiction-some say they will have made it by the year 2020. Kismet is the name of a robot, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Kismet is different from the traditional robot because it can show human emotions. Its eyes, ears and lips move to show when it feels happy, sad or bored. Kismet is one of the first of a new generation of androids-robots that look like human beings-which can imitate human feelings. Cog, another android invented by the MIT, imitates the action ofa mother. However, scientists admit that so far Cog has the mental ability of a two-year-old. The optimists say that by the year 2020 we will have created robots with brains similar to those of all adult human beings. These robots will be designed to look like people. In the future, robots will be doing dangerous jobs and most household work for us. Besides, they can entertain us by dancing and playing the piano. Different with those optimists, who claim that they can not wait to see all of them, some people say that these machines will take over jobs and leave many people unemployed. They are even afraid that intelligent machines or robots will bee smarter than humans and turn into evil monsters. They keep asking,“What will the future hold?”,“Will robots bee monsters?”etc.

short在这里表示“久,缺”常见词组,be short of。

根据文中的“Actually, the number of… much smaller than the number of those…”

Besides, the stress of school can make asthma worse.

There are many things that schools can do to help students control their asthma.

Should Robots Rave Intelligence?
Robots bee more and more intelligent, and they help us with many things. Some people are optimistic about this development while some worry that robots will cause problems.
With the rapid development of robots, there is a heated argument about whether
robots should have intelligence or not.
Some people are in favour of the idea. To begin with, robots can free men from heavy workload. What's more, robots can take the place of humans to take up some dangerous jobs, They also maitain that thanks to the convenience robots have brought, men have more time to think about other meaningful things. Some hold the opposite opinion. They have noticed that more people lose their jobs because of the use of robots. They are afraid that one day robots will rule the world, and make human beings their slaves. In their opinion, the smarter robots are, the easier they will be out of control.
Personally speaking, I think robots should have intelligence. And if we are careful enough, robots won't bee a threat to us even if they are more intelligent than now.40841 9F89 龉 39417 99F9 駹30040 7558 畘 22534 5806 堆"l37269 9195 醕635845 8C05 谅34143 855F 蕟A32188 7DBC 綼^。
