To most of us,school means classes, teachers, schedules, grades, and tests. But for the children
at Sudbury Valle School in Massachusetts, school is very different.
Firstly, there are no lessons. All the children, aged between 4 and 19,do whatever they want. There are no teachers—only “staff members”.The idea behind this is that you do not need to make children learn, because children want to learn anyway.“You do not need to say to a threeyearold,‘Go explore your environment.’You can’t stop them!” says Daniel Greenberg,a founder of the school.“But if y ou make children do what you want all day, they will lose all taste for learning.”
At Sudbury Valley School, you will permit children to talk, read, paint, cook, work on computers, study French, play the piano, climb trees,or just run around.
Two boys spent three years just fishing!
The other way that Sudbury Valley School is different is that the children can decide the rules. Every week, there is a school meeting where both children and staff have one vote each—even the fouryearolds. They decide the school rules, how to spend the school budget, and even which staff they want and do not want anymore. When the school first opened in 1968,people said it would never work. But today, the school has 200 students, and 80% of its students go on to college. Even the two boys who went fishing all the time have successful careers today. One of them is a musician and the other is a computer scientist.
24. What is the main topic of the article?
A. An unusual school.
B. Children’s hobbies.
C. A school without rules.
D. Education in the US.
25. What does the school believe?
A. Teachers cannot teach children well.
B. Children learn best when they do what they want to do.
C. Learning is for adults—children should only play.
D. Children should only learn about one thing at a time.
26. What does Daniel Greenberg say about threeyearolds?
A. They love learning.
B. They are very naughty.
C. They want to be outside all the time.
D. They are too young to
learn anything.
27. What happens to the children after they leave this school?
A. They do all things in different ways.
B. They have problems getting into college or getting a job.
C. Most of them have a promising future.
D. They are not successful.

My oldest daughter is on vacation this week. She called last night to tell us that she arrived safely in North Carolina. She said,“Don't get mad but I lost my wallet.”Then she quickly added,“But it's been returned to me!”
She had left the highway to get gas and some food. Her boyfriend was in a hurry to get going because they had a few more hours to drive before reaching their destination. She did and all the vacation money was there. Nothing was missing. She asked for the name of the person who returned it but the police said they couldn't give the information out.

A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night’s sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod off —if it is milked from a cow at night.
Research ers have discovered that “night milk” contains more melatonin(褪黑激素), which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety. The study, by researchers from Seoul, South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night. Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food. Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer. While the effect of cow’s milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are struggling to fall asleep at night.
Previous studies have also indicated that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because of the calcium Content(钙含量), which helps people to relax.
Milk is also sugar-free and additive-free with nutritionists(营养学家) recommending(推荐) skimmed milk(脱脂奶) as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before bedtime, the greater burden you will put on your body at night.

Everyone knows that fish is good for health. 36 But it seems that many people don’t cook fish at home. Americans eat only about fifteen pounds of fish per person per year, but we eat twice as much fish in restaurants as at home. Buying, storing, and cooking fish isn’t difficult. 37 This text is about how to buy and cook fish in an easy way.
38 Fresh fish should smell sweet: you should feel that you’re standing at the ocean’s edge. Any fishy or strong smell means the fish isn’t fresh. 39 When you have bought a fish and arrive home, you’d better store the fish in the refrigerator if you don’t cook it immediately, but fresh fish should be stored in your fridge for only a day or two. Frozen fish isn’t as tasty as the fresh one.
There are many common methods used to cook fish. 40 First, clean it and season it with
your choice of spices(调料). Put the whole fish on a plate and steam it in a steam pot for 8
to 10
minutes if it weighs about one pound.
(A larger one will take more time.) Then, it’s ready to serve.
A. Do not buy it.
B. The easiest is to steam it.
C. This is how you can do it.
D. It just requires a little knowledge.
E. The fish will go bad within hours.
F. When buying fish, you should first smell it.
G. The fats in fish are thought to help prevent heart disease.
