Body language is the quiet, secret and most powerful language of all! It is said that our body movements communicate(表达)about 50%while words themselves only do 7%. So while your mouth is closed, it is just your body that is saying…
Arms How you hold your arms shows how open and receptive(接受的) you are to people you meet. If you keep your arms to the sides of your body or behind your back, this suggests you are not afraid of taking on whatever comes your way. Outgoing people usually use their arms with big movements, while quieter people keep them close to their bodies. If someone makes you angry, just cross your arms to show you’re unhappy.
Head When you want to show your confidence, keep your head level(直线). If you are the monitor in class, you can also take on this position(姿势) when you want your words to be taken seriously. However, to be friendly in listening or speaking, you must move your head a little to one side.
Legs Your legs will move around a lot more than normal when you are nervous or telling lies. If you are at interviews, try to keep them still.
Mouth When you are thinking, you often purse your lips( 抿着嘴巴). You might also use this position to

Mr. Whiston taught sixth grade science. On the first day of class, he gave us a lecture(讲座)about a creature “Cattywampus”, an animal that disappeared during the Ice Age. He showed us a skull(头盖骨) as he talked. We all took notes and later a quiz(测验).
When I got my paper back, I was greatly surprised and my mind went empty — there was a big red cross at each of my answers. I had failed! I wanted to check my notebook. There had to be something wrong. But I had written down exactly what Mr. Whiston said. I realized everyone in the class had failed. What had happened?
“Very simple,” Mr.Whiston explained. “I made up all the things about the animal. There had never been such an animal. The information in your notebook was not correct.” His words made us freeze(冰冻).
He went on, “Teachers and textbooks are not always correct. In fact, when I was showing the skull (in fact, a cat’s), I had been telling you that no track(踪迹) of the animal remained(存在).” He then told us to play an active part in learning and to speak out(speak loudly, freely, boldly ) if we think the teacher and the books are wrong. But we didn’t. We brought the puzzle into next class.
This lesson taught us the importance of using our minds and gave us the courage to look people in the eye and tell them if they are wrong.

A Complaint E-mail
Subject: Complaint
Date: May 30,2004
From: David @ hotmail, corn
To: Glasgow @
Dear Sir or Madam,
Last Thursday, I traveled on the 8:40 a.m. train from Glasgow to London King's Cross and I was very unhappy with the service provided by your company.
The train was forty minutes late leaving Glasgow, and although the guide apologized(道歉), we were not given any reasons for the delay (误点). We then had further delays when the train crew ( 乘务组成员) changed at Preston and had to wait another thirty minutes. As a result, I missed my flight(航班) from London Heathrow to Frankfurt and had to wait for several hours.
What's more, the service on the train was also very poor. The trip takes over five hours, unluckily, there was no restaurant car on the train and only a bar with soft drinks. Worst of all, the air conditioner broke down half-way through the trip and it got hotter and hotter in the train. However, there was no apology for this, and before we reached King's Cross, the temperature was over 40℃.
In view of the poor service, I feel I am entitled to compensation( 有权索赔) .
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
David Robertson
