W:What a wonderful experience that will be!I wish I could travel abroad some day. Text 2
W:Would you like to go to the cinema tonight?
M:I'd rather stay at home and watch TV.I have to get up early to attend a meeting tomorrow.
Text 3
W:What a wonderful afternoon! This is even better than San Francisco and Salt Lake City.
M:We're lucky to be in New England this time of year.
Text 4
M:Did your mother have a professional career,or did she work at home?
W:Actually, she did both. When we were young, she stayed at ter,she went back to school and became a lawyer.
Text 5
M:OK,drop in whenever you like.
W:Yes,I'll do that.Thank you for asking me to dinner. It's a nice dinner party and I've enjoyed your cooking.
M:I'm glad you enjoy yourself.
Text 6
W:Nice dress.How do I look?Be honest.
M:Hmm...you look too dressed up.How about this purple top and these jeans?
W:Well,that top is a little too tight,and those jeans aren't dressy enough.And
I don't feel comfortable with that.
M:Don't always find fault with that.Be confident.Wear styles you're going to be comfortable in.
W:That sounds about right.
Text 7
W:Are you going to watch the World Series?
M:No.I don't care about that anymore.
W:Why is that?I thought you were a huge baseball fan.
M:I am... but my team isn't in the championship anymore,so I don't have any reason to watch the games.
W:But don't you want to see who wins? You know...as a fan of the game?
M:Look,Judy.I don't really want to talk about this, okay?I'm still upset that we lost, and I don't think I'll be able to move on until this whole thing is over.I actually can't wait for the World Series to end!
W:Oh,I had no idea that you felt that way.Sorry if I made it worse.
M:It's OK.I guess I get a little too emotional about it.It's only because this happens to us every year.We haven't won a championship since I was a kid!
Text 8
M:Stacy,I need to buy a new car.I need something with good safety features that doesn't use a lot of gas,but I also need it to be decent to look at.It also has to be pretty cheap.
W:Well, you've just described the impossible!Freddie, you need to be realistic.
You probably won't be able to have all those things in one car.You can't have everything in life, you know.
M:Yeah,I figured.
W:So,what's the most important thing?
M:Well,I only have twenty-five thousand dollars to spend. That's my upper limit. W:OK.We can basically forget about sports cars and big SUVs.But those don't really
match the other requirements, anyway. Here's the big question:which is more important—looking good or using less gas?
M:Well,I don't have a ton of extra money to spend on gas,so I guess I'll have to go with something a bit more economical.
W:Cool. You don't even need a fancy car,if you ask me.And the good news is that less expensive cars that don't use a lot of gas tend to be really safe.
Text 9
W:Thank you for coming down today,Mr.Parker.Would you like some coffee?
M:No,thank you.
W:Mr.Parker, please tell us what you saw on the night of February 18.

W:Did he have a gun,Mr.Parker?
M:It was dark, but I'm sure I didn't see any weapons. He did push her down to the ground, though. She screamed, and the man ran away.
W:Did you see what he was wearing?
M:He had a black baseball hat on.He was wearing blue jeans and white shoes.
W:Do you remember how tall he was? What about his build?
M:He seemed kind of normal,I suppose...
W:Could you be more specific,Mr.Parker?
M:I'm sorry.I'm really not good at guessing those kinds of things. He is a little shorter and a little heavier than me.I'm six feet tall and I weigh 190 pounds. W:That's very helpful,Mr.Parker.Thank you.
Text 10

Snooker(桌球) is a billiards(台球)style game enjoyed by millions of people around the world. But how did this game come into being?
The birth of Snooker comes from the 19th century when British Army officers stationed in India. These officers often played billiards but the game only had two players. In order to play with many players, more balls were introduced to the match and more players began to play in each game. The new games that formed were called Black Pool and Life Pool. They finally combined in the late 19th century to create the game of snooker. It was named by a British Army officer Sir Neville Chamberlain, with “Snooker” then being another expression for a first year army student.Sir Neville Chamberlain once said that one of the players was a “real snooker” and ever since the name has been called.
The new sport didn't become popular until 1916 and the first world championship in 1927 was won by Joe Davis. After that, snooker continued to increase in popularity(流行) throughout the UK and the world snooker championship was held once a year.Davis continued to lead the professional game by winning every world championship up until his retirement in 1946 after he won the world championship.
Throughout the 1950s and 60s Snooker declined(下降) in popularity with the British public until television came along and saved the unpopular sport.Colour television greatly increased the popularity of the game and it received huge numbers of television audiences across the UK.
Snooker is now by far the most popular sports in the UK as well as being hugely popular in many other countries including China. With many new players coming to play snooker, the future of snooker looks bright for many years to come.

This assertion(断言) belongs to Albert Einstein that in life imagination is more important than knowledge.Another important thing that goes together with imagination
and knowledge is intelligence. This contributes to our behavior in society,to our integration(整合) in different groups of people and helps us manage in extreme situations of our life.
First of all, imagination can be noticed mostly at intelligent persons. However, everybody has a certain degree of imagination,be it higher or slower.Consequently, each one of us uses his imagination in the everyday life and contributes at making different inventions, some of them being very useful to the mankind. Here we can mention the inventions that men of science and not only have invented for the benefit of the developing of society: the bulb, the radio, the telephone, the steam, the internet and so on.
On the contrary, knowledge is important but only if people know how to apply it in different fields of activity. However, one has to be intelligent enough and have imagination in order to achieve his goals in life.
According to all these,I believe that imagination undergoes knowledge, the latter needing learning and time in order to be achieved, whereas the former appears as the result of one's degree of intelligence.
We can take the rapid development of the Japanese society as an example of both imagination and knowledge.People there are very intelligent and have known to take advantage of their knowledge to modernize their society. Therefore, they've organized their market economy using the experiences of the west countries. The military navy and the parliamentary regime(议会政体) took over the English system and the American one in the field of education.Hence, all of these factors were put into functioning taking also into consideration the Japanese specific culture and traditions.
If we were to conclude asking if Albert Einstein was right or no,we can only say that it all depends on whom we ask, what we ask about and when. But there is one thing that I am sure about, that is imagination is more important than knowledge. 33.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?
A.Everybody Has the Same Degree of Imagination
B.The Rapid Development of the Japanese Society
C.Imagination Is More Important Than Knowledge
D.Tips on How to Learn From Other Countries
答案 C [主旨大意题。

由此可以推断C项作文章标题合适。
]
34.We know from the passage that intelligence ________.
A.is the major source of imagination and knowledge
B.plays the most important role in one's achievement
C.has nothing to do with imagination and knowledge
D.can help us deal with extreme situations of our life
答案 D [细节理解题。
根据第一段最后一句This contributes to our behavior in society,to our integration(整合) in different groups of people and helps us manage in extreme situations of our life.可知选项D正确。
A项短文没有提到;B 项太绝对;根据第一段中的Another important thing that goes together with imagination and knowledge is intelligence.可排除C。
]
35.By giving the example of the rapid development of the Japanese society, the author ________.
A.explains the relationship between imagination and knowledge
B.wants to tell us the importance of both imagination and knowledge
C.intends to give some advice on how to modernize the society
D.expresses his own opinion on how to borrow ideas from others
答案 B [推理判断题。
根据第五段第一句We can take the rapid development of the Japanese society as an example of both imagination and knowledge.以及整段内容可以推测,作者以日本社会的快速发展作为例子说明日本人既发挥想象力同时又具备充分的知识,由此可以推测,作者想告诉我们的是想象力和知识的重要性。
故B项正确。
