Foxes and farmers have never got on well. These small dog-like animals have long been accused of killing farm animals. They are officially classified as harmful and farmers try to keep their numbers down by shooting or poisoning them.
Farmers can also call on the services of their local hunt to control the fox population.Hunting consists of pursuing a fox across the countryside, with a group of specially trained dogs, followed by men and women riding horses. When the dogs eventually catch the fox they kill it or a hunter shoots it.
People who take part in hunting think of as a sport; they wear a special uniform of red coats and white trousers, and follow strict codes of behavior. But owning a horse and hunting regularly is expensive, so most hunters are wealthy.
It is estimated that up to 100,000 people watch or take part in fox hunting. But over the last couple of decades the number of people opposed to fox hunting, because they think it is brutal (残酷的), has risen sharply.Nowadays it is rare for a hunt to pass off without some kind of confrontation (冲突) between hunters and hunt saboteurs (阻拦者).
Sometimes these incidents lead to violence, but mostly saboteurs interfere with the hunt by misleading riders and disturbing the trail of the fox's smell, which the dogs follow.Noisy confrontations between hunters and saboteurs have become so common that they are almost as much a part of hunting as the pursuit of foxes itself. But this year supporters of fox hunting face a much bigger threat to their sport.A Labour Party Member of the Parliament, Mike Foster, is trying to get Parliament to approve a new law which will make the hunting of wild animals with dogs illegal. If the law is passed, wild animals like foxes will be protected under the ban in Britain.51.Rich people in Britain have been hunting foxes ___________.

Traditional fairytales are being given up by parents because they are too scary for their young children, a study found.
Research uncovered that one in five parents has got rid of old literature such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Rapunzel(长发姑娘)in favour of more modem books. One third of parents said their children have been left in tears after hearing the gruesome details of Little Red Riding Hood.
And nearly half of mothers and fathers refuse to read Rumplesliltshin (纺线姑娘)to their kids as the themes of the story are kidnapping and killing.
Similarly, Goldilocks and the Three Bears was also a tale likely to be left on the book shelf as parents felt it forgives stealing.
The survey of 2,000 adults was completed to mark the launch of the hit US drama GRIMM (格林童话剧) , which starts tonight at 9pm on Watch, and sees six drama series based on traditional fairytales.
The survey found a quarter of parents questioned wouldn’t consider reading fairytales to their kids.
And 52 percent of the parents said Cinderella (灰姑娘)didn’t send a good message to their children as it describes a young woman doing housework all day.
Steve Hornsey, General Manager of Watch, said: "Bedtime stories are supposed to calm children down and send them off to sleep soundly. But as we see in GMMM, fairytales can be dark and dramatic so it’s understandable that parents worry about reading them to young 'children. As adults we can see the innocence in fairytales, but a five - year - old child could take them too literally.Despite the dark nature of classic fairytales, as: we see in GRIMM, good will defeat evil and there is always a moral to the story."
The study also found two thirds of mums and dads try to avoid Stories which might give their children nightmares.

If you hear the sound of running water the next time you call a co-worker on his or her mobile phone, don’t be surprised. Three-fourths of Americans with mobile phones say they use them in the bathroom, a new study shows.
Approximately the same number of men and women have used the phone in the bathroom, according
to a survey of 1,000 Americans by 11mark, an integrated marketing agency, although men seem more attaced to IT in the toilet: 30 percent of men versus 20 percent of women agreed with the statement, "I don't go to the bathroom without my mobile phone."
More than half the surveyed users (63 percent) said they have answered a phone call in the bathroom, and almost half (41 percent) reported initiating a phone call. That's not all, however. What goes on behind the walls of the stalls is anything a mobile phone is capable of. Sixty-seven percent said they have read a text, and 39 percent have surfedthe Web. Men work more from the bathroom—20 percent said they have participated in work-related calls, versus 13 percent of their female colleagues.
As expected, Gen Y respondents are the pacesetters in the "mobile everywhere" movement, with 91 percent using their phone in the bathroom. Still, older generations are not far behind. Eighty percent of Gen X(1961-1981) reported using the phone in the bathroom, as did 65 percent of Baby Boomers and 47 percent of the Silent Generation.
While online, they are doing more than just surfing; 16 percent of Gen Y report they have made an online purchase while in the bathroom. Users of iPhones are particularly likely to browse and buy in the bathroom –22 percent have made a purchase, versus 10 percent of Americans with mobile phones overall.
"The writing is on the stall," said 11mark principal Nicole Burdette. "This study confirms what we all know: that the last private place is no longer private."
In the process, high-tech hygiene(卫生) is taking a hit, the survey found. While 92 percent of mobile phone users said they wash their hands after using the bathroom, only 14 percent said they wash their phones.

When news broke that Chinese NBA superstar Yao Ming was planning to hang up his jersey(运动衫) last summer after a persistent injury got the better of his on-court career, his former also-newly retired-rival Shaquille O'Neal welcomed him. "Enjoy retirement!" exclaimed Shaq on YouTube. "Let's go on vacation, bro me and you." No word if the two towering centers were ever able to share 18 holes or a drink on a beach, but it would be hard to imagine how either of them would have found the time, especially Yao.
Since leaving professional basketball in July, Yao has become a force in Shanghai. He has gone back to school, launched a high-end wine label, released pandas into the wild and, just this past weekend, been elected onto a political advisory committee in his hometown of Shanghai.
The 31 year old took his place on Sunday at Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Shanghai Committee's annual meeting alongside six other newly elected members who were all almost twice his age. Among his new colleagues were the directors of the Shanghai Library and the Shanghai Tourism Bureau. Yao is the youngest and, at 7-foot-6, the tallest member of the 142-person committee.
Even in retirement, Yao Ming is still one of the most famous men in China. Plenty of organizations and Yao himself are seemingly eager to use his influential capital while the going is still good. "Yao said the new title shows trust coming from the people in the city," Yao spokesman Zhang Chi told the China Daily. Zhang denied that Yao harbored any political aspirations. "The responsibilities for a CPPCC member include offering political consultation, and supervision. What Yao wants is to use his influence to do good deeds for society, but not to seek a political position," Zhang said.
With the new job Yao is expected to attend regular meetings and offer suggestions or written proposals to the local government. "Raising proposals is very serious business, and I do not want to be hasty," Yao told the press after the meeting, adding that he will be focusing his efforts on sports education, an area he is more familiar with. Yao will have to juggle this new political job with a fulltime gig at Shanghai's prestigious Jiao Tong University (though through custom, private one-on-one degree program) and his commitments as owner of Shanghai's professional basketball team, The Sharks, which he used to play for.
63.The first paragraph is mainly used to state that ______.
A.Yao Ming retired from NBA due to a constant injury
B.Yao Ming and Shaquille O' Neal are former also newly retired - rivals
C.Yao Ming and Shaquille O’Neal are able to share their retirement
D.Yao Ming and Shaquille O' Neal are too busy to share their retirement
64.The reason why Yao Ming has been elected onto a political advisory committee of CPPCC is because ______.
A.Yao is the youngest and the tallest man in China
B.Yao had strong political aspirations to be a member
C.Yao is still one of the most famous and influential man in China
D.Yao wants to use his influence to do good deeds for society
65.Which of the following best describes the attitude of Yao Ming as a member of CPPCC?
A.Optimistic.B.Casual.
C.Serious.D.Defensive.
66.What' s the best title of the passage?
A.Enjoy retirement B.Yap Ming in Shanghai Politics C.Yao Ming - the youngest and the tallest D.Doing good deeds for society

A messy desk can actually lead people towards clearer thinking, say researchers from Germany.
The researchers found in a series of linked studies - using a messy desk and a messy shop front - that people actually thought more clearly when all around was chaos, as they sought to simplify
the tasks at hand.
Visual and mental clutter(阻塞) forces human beings to focus and think more clearly.
Famous thinkers and writers such as Albert Einstein and Roald Dahl have been notorious(声名狼藉的) for their untidy desks.
“Messy desks may not be as detrimental as they appear to be, as the problem-solving approaches they seem to cause can boost work efficiency or enhance employees' creativity in problem solving,” say the authors.
“Business and government managers often promote 'clean desk' policies to avoid disorganized offices and messy desks, for the purpose of boosting work efficiency and productivity,” write lead researcher Jia Liu of the University of Groningen in a paper published in the Journal of Consumer Research.
“This practice is based on the conventional wisdom that a disorganized and messy environment can clutter one's mind and complicate one's judgments.'
“However, not all evidence supports this conventional link between a messy environment and a messy mind.”
The scientists tested people's response in various 'messy' environments - including a messy shop front, a disorganized desk, and even a work environment where a language task 'reminded' people of messiness.
The authors found in the series of six studies tended towards simplicity in their thinking.
“They categorized(分类) products in a simpler manner, were willing to pay more for a t-shirt that depicts a simple-looking picture, and sought less variety in their choices, said the researchers.
67.The purpose of the first two paragraphs is to show that _____.
A.A messy desk cannot contribute to clearer thinking
B.People thought more clearly about a messy desk and a shopfront
C.People will feel confused when all around are chaos
D.People manage to simplify the tasks in messy environments
68.Why does the author take Albert Einstein as an example?
A.to support the idea that clearer thinking comes from messy environment.
B.to tell the fact that Einstein was known for his untidy desks.
C.to stop us from learning from Albert Einstein.
D.to call on us to develop a good habit.
69.How do people look at messy environment according to the conventional wisdom?
A.Messy environment will create clearer thinking.
B.Messy environment will simplify one' s judgement.
C.Messy environment can promote work efficiency.
D.Messy environment can block one' s mind.
70.What does the last passage imply?
A.People believe messy environment creates clearer thinking.
B.People sought more simplicity in the choices.
C.People were not willing to choose those complicated products.
D.Not all the people accept messy environment and complicated things.
