Ⅱ.七选五(2018·安徽皖南八校联考)Tips to Boost Your Confidence8 Here are some solutions to boost your confidence in the long run.Always think positively. We all have negative voices inside our head. 9 Start out slowly and push yourself to think of three good things about yourself every morning.10Take the time to look within yourself and assess what is possible to change and what is out of reach. It is important to focus on changing the things you have control over, because this is where you will see the most selfimprovement.Make a list of three things that you would like to improve on and then under each item write a few bullet points on how you will go about making this change.Focus on the small steps for signs of improvement.Make sure to focus on smaller victories. It is often harder for individualsto see their own selfimprovement when they are looking at the long term, but itis easier to pinpoint changes when you are focusing on daily accomplishments. 11 Whatever it is makes sure you follow through and then acknowledge your achievements by making a list and posting it somewhere easily in view, because small steps always add up in the end.Stop comparing yourself to others. One of the most common pitfalls(陷阱) that humans are guilty of is comparing themselves with each other. It is important to remember that what appears on the surface is not always what is reality. If you feel like you are constantly overwhelmed by trying to keep up with others, make a marked effort to limit your usage of social media. 12A.Be realistic with what you can change.B.Try to understand body languages of others.C.Building confidence takes time and patience.D.Practice being award of how you hold yourself during the day.E.The good news is that we can change these voices to only say positive things instead.F.Start small and have a daily goal of one instance where you practice defending yourself.G.You will be surprised with all the free time you have to do other things and best of all you will have a clear, more confident self.Ⅲ.语法填空(2018·广东佛山顺德区教学质量检测)Teenagers are famous for being on the cutting edge of current fads(时尚)and trends. They are working on their identity. They want to identify with something that makes them feel good about 13.

enough to prove we could do it on our own,” says christine crosby, publisher of grand, a magazine for grandparents. “we now realize ho w important family is and how important it is to be near them, especially when you’re raising children.”moving is not for everyone. almost every grandparent wants to be with his or her grandchildren and is willing to make sacrifices, but sometimes it is wiser to got 72 hours at most. so i am always conscious of time.i had one trip last year where i was caught by a hurricane in america. i picked up the stem cells in providence, rhode island, and was meant to fly to washington then back to london. but when i arrived at the check-in desk at providence, the lady on the desk said: “well, i’m really sorry, i’ve got some bad news for you —there are no flights from washington.” so i took my box and put it on the desk and i said: “in this box are some stem cells that are urgently needed for a patient — please, please, you’ve got to get me back to the united kingdom.” she just dropped everything. she arranged for a flight on a small plane to be held for me, re-routed (改道) me through newark and got me back to the uk even earlier than originally to washington.dthe meaning of silence varies among cultural groups. silences may be thoughtful, or they may be empty when a person has nothing to say. a silence in a conversation may also showstubbornness, uneasiness, or worry. silence may be viewed by some cultural groups as extremely uncomfortable; therefore attempts may be made to fill every gap (间隙) with conversation. persons in other cultural groups value silence and view it as necessary for understanding a person’s needs. many native americans value silence and feel it is a basic part of communicating among people, just as some traditional chinese and thai persons do. therefore, when a person from oneof these cultures is speaking and suddenly stops, what may be implied (暗示) is that the person wants the listener to consider what has been said before continuing. in these cultures, silence is a call for reflection.other cultures may use silence in other ways, particularly when dealing with conflicts among people or in relationships of people with different amounts of power. for example, russian, french, and spanish persons may use silence to show agreement between parties about the topic under discussion. however, mexicans may use silence when instructions are given by a person in authority rather than be rude to that person by arguing with him or her. in still another use, persons in asian cultures may view silence as a sign of respect, particularly to an elder or a person in authority.nurses and other care-givers need to be aware of the possible meanings of silence when they come across the personal anxiety their patients may be experiencing. nurses should recognize their own personal and cultural construction of silence so that a patient’s silence is not interrupted too early or allowed to go on unnecessarily. a nurse who understands the healing (治愈) value of silence can use this understanding to assist in the care of patients from their own and from other cultures.32. what does the author say about silence in conversations?a. it implies anger.b. it promotes friendship.c. it is culture-specific.d. it is content-based.33. which of the following people might regard silence as a call for careful thought?a. the chinese.b. the french.c. the mexicans.d. the russians.34. what does the author advise nurses to do about silence?a. let it continue as the patient pleases.b. break it while treating patients.c. evaluate its harm to patients.d. make use of its healing effects.35. what may be the best title for the text?a. sound and silenceb. what it means to be silentc. silence to 18. D 联系空格后的pretend the others aren‟t there可知, 空格处是说父亲集中注意力于 (concentrate on)音乐。pass over对……不加考虑; turn up出现;bring in引入, 采用。 19. D 联系前文的then came the beautiful melody以及最后一段中的… taught me more about courage and determination…

1.B 2.A 3.D 4.B 5.A
由第一段第三句“In the Middle Ages, merchants employed „town criers‟ to read public messages aloud to promote their goods.” 根据“This”所在句子“This was so successful that by the end of the century several companies started businesses for the purpose of making newspaper ads for merchants. ”以及上文“The London Gazette was the first newspaper to set aside a place just for advertising.”

CFPSeveral months ago, 8-year-old Alex McKelvey set out to do some nice things for people she didn’t even know. For the past year, since her grandmother Linda died, the Washington girl and her family have performed hundreds of acts of kindness.“This is what her life was about, giving to others,” Alex said. She recently reached a goal that helped her family and hundreds of people who’ve received their special gifts. Alex was up before dawn on Sunday volunteering in a local town. That alone could have been her good deed for the day. But she was just getting started. By 8 am, the McKelveys were ready for breakfast at a restaurant where they would complete their next task. Before they paid their bill, they asked the server to swipe their card for a couple sitting a few tables away. But Alex wasn’t done yet. She then handed her server a 100-dollar tip. “Thank you, you guys are too sweet!” the server said, holding back tears. But these good deeds aren’t as random(随机的) as you might think. They’re part of an important list. “Sixty-one different acts of kindness,” said Sarah McKelvey, Alex’s mom. And that was just for Sunday. The McKelveys have taken a lot of time over the past year to make other people’s days. “It’s been fun to come up with all these ideas, but it also kind of helps us too,” said Sarah. In all, the McKelvey family completed 600 acts of kindness in time for what would have been Linda’s 60th birthday on Sunday.1. thirtyyearold Australian fulltime mum living on a farm outside Launceston, didn’t consider herself a very good water saver.Neither did her partner who often complained about it with good reasons.Their farm had to rely on tank water and solar power, which meant water had to be trucked in if the tank water ran out in summer.“I looked at where I could save because I could lead an easier life without the complaint,” she said.Modeling her idea on a car thermostat(恒温器),Lindy used her kids’ magnetic(磁的) drawing board to design a device that diverts the cold water back down the hot water pipe.“The first aim when I started designing was to keep it really small and simple without having to use power.I wanted to keep it as something that everyone could use,” said Lindy. She got a patent for her design and took it to some engineers to have it tested out.At first, even though the engineers were amazed that she wasn’t an engineer, she said she sometimes found it hard to be taken seriously.“My age was a real factor because in the plumbing(管路系统) and manufacturing industries you’re dealing with people who’ve got a lot of experiences,” she said. But the engineers soon saw the potential of her design, which she estimated would save average families between 14,000 to 22,000 liters per year.“When you t ransfer that to the dollar savings on tank water that you have to buy,it can be a saving of 600 per year,” said Lindy.Armed with positive feedback from engineers and people using rainwater tanks, her design proved a great success.Soon she found a manufacturer early this year, and completed a state government commercial ready course to help her research, her markets and distribution channels. With an Australian Standard for her device just approved, she’s about to start manufacturing and wishes to see her produ cts on the shelves within the next few months.Once that happens,Lindy plans to return to beinga fulltime mum.4.What does the second paragraph mainly about?A.Lindy’s unhappy family.B.Lindy’s comfortable farm life.C.The function of Lindy’s invention.D.The background to Lindy’s invention.5.What drove Lindy to invent a watersaving device?A.Her dull life as a housewife.B.The difficulty in getting water on her farm.C.Her husband’s request.D.The need of increasing agricultural water.6.What happened when Lindy first took her design to some engineers?A.They did not pay much attention to it.B.They believed it was a great invention.C.They helped her test it out immediately.D.They laughed at her because it was no use at all.7.What can we know from the text?A.Lindy didn’t enjoy being a fulltime housewife but liked being a working mum.B.Lindy’s products have been widely welcomed in the markets at home and abroad.C.Lindy’s design was liked by engineers and people using rainwater tanks.D.Lindy had a lot of experience in the plumbing and manufacturing industries.
