Mr。

Black was a rich man living in East LA。

Whenever the
neighbors asked for help,he would smile, embrace(拥抱)and give them some money。

One evening, when Mr. Black was walking outside he noticed a bum (流浪汉)lying in the sidewilk。

Well, the hum saw the man and knew he could help him if he asked。

However, the hum was overcome by a sudden feeling of shame and hid his face. Mr. Black reached down and touched the bum’s cheek and then walked away。

The bum opened his eyes。

There at his feet lay a $100 bill. The bum seized the money and rushed to the nearest store for wine。

But, before he entered the store, he remembered the man’s touch。

The bum decided then and there to change his life around. The bum asked for one coin from an old lady and made a call。

The bum said,“100 dollars. Invest it all in that company with the name Microsoft!” Since this was,as it turns out,the late 1980s,it took only a short while before the stock(股票)rose rapidly, and the bum found himself very well off indeed. Back in East LA, Mr. Black kept to life much as usual. One day, his doorbell rang, and there stood a finely dressed gentleman. Before Mr. Black could do anything, his guest spoke。

“You’ve given me a second chance in life。

With your generous gift , I was able to pull myself out of my poverty。

I thank you for that.” Suddenly,Mr。

Black recognized his guest.
Mr. Black was moved as his guest took him into the embrace. It was the same gesture as the man had so often offered to those at his door, yet
this was the first time someone had offered it back。

Tears rifled Mr. Black’s eyes as his guest,a former bum off the street, held him the most satisfying embrace he had ever received。

56. What would Mr. Black do if someone asked for help?
A. Give them food coldly.
B. Let them stay in his house kindly.
C. Turn them away cruelly。

D. Offer them money generously。

57。

A mouse looked through a crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife opening a package:What food might it contain? He was astonished to discover that it was a mouse trap!
Retreating(退避)to the farmyard, the mouse declared the warning, “There is a mouse trap in the house, there is a mouse trap in the house."
The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said,“Mr Mouse, I can tell you this is a grave concern to you,but it is of no consequence to me,I cannot be bothered by it. ”
The mouse turned to the pig and told him, “There is a mouse trap in the house. ”“I am so sorry, Mouse,” sympathized the pig,“but there is nothing I can do about it but pray;be assured (向…保证)that you are in my prayers。

The mouse turned to the cow, who replied,“A mouse trap,am I in grave danger, huh?”
So the mouse returned to the house, head down and depressed to face the farmer's mouse trap alone.
That very night a sound was heard throughout the house, like the sound of a mouse trap catching its prey。

The farmer’s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see that it was an evil snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer’s wife。

The farmer rushed her to the hospital。

She returned home with a fever。

Now everyone knew to treat a fever with fresh chicken soup,so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup’s main ingredient。

His wife’s sickness continued so that friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well, in fact, she died, and so many people
came for her funeral。

The farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide meat for all of them to eat.
So the next time you hear that someone is facing a problem and think that it does not concern you, remember that when the least of us is threatened,we are all at risk。

D. To keep the balance of nature is the duty of us all。

C
You know how wonderful you are,and you know that others know how wonderful you are, but what do you do when admiration cresses over the line into jealousy(嫉妒)? For most teens there will come a day when you realize that one of your friends is jealous and that this jealousy is hurting your friendship. When this happens it can seem like there is nothing that you can do, but the good news is that there is。

Don’t let jealousy spoil your relationships。

Handle it head on and you might be back to normal much sooner than you think.
It can be hard to walk up to a friend and ask them what the problem is, but if you want to save your friendship you’ll have to do just that. Don’t approach them and ask why they are jealous of you (unless of course you want to appear totally proud), just take some time alone with them and let them know that you’ve been feeling like there’s been something coming between you。

If they refuse to respond, then use the opportunity to explain how you have been feeling。

Chances are that something you say will strike a nerve and your friend will open up as well。

When you figure out what is annoying your friend, ask him or her what(s)he thinks would make the situation better. If,for example,(s)he says that(s)he feels like(s)he doesn’t get to spend any time with you because of your being off with your new friends from the swim team, then maybe you could invite her along the next time or block off one day a week for just the two of you。

Remember,though, that whatever solution
you decide on should be a compromise(和解). Don’t limit your own talents or opportunities simply because your friend is unhappy。

Try instead to include him or her in your new life and see how that works out.
Even the best of friendships can be tinged(略带着)with jealousy. This destructive emotion is rarely productive and can turn best friends into worst enemies. Before taking extreme action, chat with your jealous friend to see if the two of you can work out a compromise, If you can’t, be prepared to know exactly how far you will go to keep your friend and how far you won't。

64。

According to the author, the jealousy emotion is ________.
A. normal
B. productive
C. destructive
D. extreme
65。

The underlined “it” in the first paragraph refers to ________.
A。

friendship B. relationship C。

admiration
D. jealousy
66. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A。

There's always a solution to solve the problem of jealousy.
B. Jealousy can turn best friends into worst enemies.
C. You may lose a friend to keep your own gifts, chances or self development.
D。

You should go a long way with your friend to work out a solution。

67. The purpose of the passage is ________。

A。

to explain what causes jealousy
B。

to offer some advice on making friends
C. to introduce ways to cope with a jealous friend
D。

to explain how destructive the jealous emotion is
D
