商务英语(初级、中级)剑桥商务英语证书考试(BEC)应试水平BEC属专门用途英语考试。

目前国内规模较大的英语水平考试如大学四、六级考试,主要是对大学公共英语教学的考核。

BEC考试则主要考查考生在商务方面的英语实际运用能力。

BEC1为初级语言水平考试,难度相当于我国大学英语四级,就剑桥英语考试系列来说,它介于入门英语考试(Key English Test)和初级英语考试(Preliminary English Test)之间;BEC2介于我国大学英语四、六级之间,相当于剑桥第一证书英语考试(First Certificate in English);BEC3介于我国大学英语六级和英语专业八级之间,相当于剑桥熟练英语证书考试(Certificate of Proficiency in English)。

以中国学生学英语的程度来参照,凡系统学习过基础英语,象《许国章英语》1、2册或《新概念英语》1、2册者均可达到BEC1的语言应试要求;BEC2和BEC3语言水平要求更高,报考者至少应具有中级英语水平(相当于大学四级以上的水平)或学完《许国章英语》四册或《新概念英语》四册的水平。

注:考生可以不经BEC1考试直接报考BEC2或BEC3,也可同时报考BEC1和BEC2,或同时报考BEC2和BEC3。

报名不受年龄、性别、职业、地区、学历等限制,任何人(包括学生、待业人员等)均可持本人身份证到当地考点报名。

在华工作的外籍人员和现役军人亦可持本人有效身份证及两张照片报名参加考试。

BEC的报考时间地点、条件和收费标准报名时间报名无开始时间,即任何时间都可以报名。

有截止时间:上半年报名截止时间为三月二十日;下半年报名截止时间为九月十七日。

报名地点:教育部考试中心已在全国50多个大中城市设立了BEC和PET商务英语考点(也即报名点),由当地的高等学校承办。

商务英语是英语的一种社会功能变体,是专门用途英语中的一个分支,是英语在商务场合中的应用。

它涉及技术引进、对外贸易、招商引资、对外劳务承包与合同、国际合同、国际金融、涉外保险、国际旅游、海外投资、国际运输等等,人们从事这些活动所使用的英语统称为商务英语。

商务英语源于普通英语,并以此为基础,完全具有普通英语的语言学特征,但同时它又是商务知识和普通英语的综合体,因而具有其内在的独特性,主要集中以下几个方面:
1) 商务英语的语言形式、词汇、以及内容等方面与专业知识密切相关,它承载着商务理论和商务实践等方面的信息。

2) 商务英语用词明白易懂、正式规范、简短达意、语言平实。

用词方面多使用常用词,以保证所用词语具有国际通用性,保证能为普通大众所理解,但又不能过于口语化,即商务英语所使用的语言不能过于非正式。

有些商务文书(如合同)因为具有规范、约束力等公文性质,因此会使用一些很正式的词语,如使用prior to 或者previous to 而不使用before;使用supplement 而不使用add to 等。

但在介词方面,商务英语往往使用以繁复的介词短语来代替简单的介词和连词,如:用in the nature of 代替like ;
3). 商务英语句子结构比较复杂,句事规范,文体正式,尤其在招标文件和投资文件以及合同中更是如此,
4) 商务英语在陈述事物时往往具体、明确,绝不含糊其辞。

如商务英语不说“ We wish to confirm our telex dispatched yesterday ”,而要说“ We confirm our telex of July 2 nd ,2000. ”。

因为前者笼统含糊,后者清晰明了;
5) 在国际商务英语应用文特别是国际商务信函中,礼貌是其中非常重要的语言特点。

1.2 商务英语的翻译标准
商务英语翻译比文学英语翻译复杂得多,因为译者除了要精通两种语言极其文化以及熟悉翻译技巧之外,还必须熟悉商务方面的知识,了解商务各个领域的语言的特点和表达法,因此有些翻译标准和翻译原则无法完全适应于商务英语的翻译。

我们可以以严复提出的“信、达、雅”为基础,按照刘法公先生提出的“忠实、准确、统一”的商务翻译标准,作为我们认为切实可行的商务英语翻译标准,这便是“忠实、地道、统一(faithfulness, idiomaticness, consistency) ”。
