Nowadays, with the growing popularity of smart phones and computers, an increasing number of students are choosing to learn English beyond the classroom in various ways.
It can easily be seen that the percentage of students who choose listening to English songs and watching English movies is respectively 65% and 50%. However, those choosing reading English books and visiting English learning websites only account for 18% and 12%.
As far as I’m concerned, it is a disturbing trend. For students, what benefits most to their study is reading English books. Because of their lack of self-discipline, they’re more easily addicted to chatting online or playing games. It’s urgent for students themselves to improve their self-discipline, and it’s also urgent for parents and teachers to strengthen the guidance.

Recently, an investigation is being carried out by our school’s English newspaper about English learning status outside the classroom.
According to the bar chart, there are mainly four types of after-class English study. As is shown, more and more students pay attention to English songs, the percent of whom have increased to 65%，and furthermore, the number of those who are into English movies accounts for 50%. The rest two types, reading English originals or browsing English learning websites, account for no more than 18% and 12% respectively.
This phenomenon shows that the top two combine entertainment and relaxation as well as easy access for English learners compared with much more boring and dull atmosphere in English class. However, since both are fast- food culture, the rest two choices mean much harder and more toil although it is more fruitful and influential.
From the analysis we can safely draw the conclusion that we need to think about how to make full use of our spare time to learn English. It is possible that in the future the tendency will change with our awareness improved.
