2019.1 第一部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

A
If there is one thing I'm sure about, it is that in a hundred years from now we will still be reading newspapers. It is not that newspapers are a necessity.Even now some people get most of their news from television or radio. Many buy a paper only on Saturday or Sunday. But for most people reading a newspaper has become a habit passed down from generation to generation.
The nature of what is news may change. What basically makes news is what affects our lives—the big political stories, the coverage of the wars, earthquakes and other disasters, will continue much the same.I think there will be more coverage of scientific research, though. It's already happening in areas that may directly affect our lives, like genetic engineering. In the future, I think there will be more coverage of scientific explanations of why we feel as we do—as we develop a better understanding of how the brain operates and what our feelings really are.
It's quite possible that in the next century newspapers will be transmitted(传送)electronically from Fleet Street and printed out in our own home.In fact, I'm pretty sure that how it will happen in the future. You will probably be able to choose from a menu, making up your own newspaper by picking out the things you want to read—sports and international news, etc.
I think people have got it wrong when they talk about competition between the different media. They actually feed_off_each other. Some people once foresaw that television would kill off newspapers, but that hasn't happened. What is read on the printed page lasts longer than pictures on a screen or sound lost in the air.And as for the Internet, it's never really pleasant to read something just on a screen.

Since we are social beings, the quality of our lives depends in large measure on our
interpersonal relationships. One strength of the human condition is our possibility to give and receive support from one another under stressful conditions. Social support makes up of the exchange of resources among people based on their interpersonal ties. Those of us with strong support systems appear better able to cope with major life changes and daily hassles(困难). People with strong social ties live longer and have better health than those without such ties. Studies over types of illnesses, from depression to heart disease, show that the presence of social support helps people fend off(挡开) illness, and the absence of such support makes poor health more likely. Social support cushions stress in a number of ways. First, friends, relatives and co-workers may let us know that they value us. Our self-respect is strengthened when we feel accepted by others in spite of our faults and difficulties. Second, other people often provide us with informational support. They help us to define and understand our problems and find solutions to them. Third, we typically find social companionship supportive. Taking part in free-time activities with others helps us to meet our social needs while at the same time distracting(转移注意力) us from our worries and troubles. Finally, other people may give us instrumental support—money aid, material resources, and needed services—that reduces stress by helping us resolve and cope with our problems.
5.Interpersonal relationships are important because____.
A.they are indispensable(不可缺少的) to people's social well-being
B.they awaken people's desire to exchange resources
C.they help people to cope with life in the information era
D.they can cure a range of illnesses such as heart disease, etc.

D.is closely related to their strength for coping with major changes in their lives
答案B[细节理解题。

由第一段第六句Studies over types of illnesses...可知,研究疾病所覆盖的范围,从抑郁症到心脏病,显示了社交帮助人们抵御疾病,而缺少社交则可能使身体变差;第二段第一句也指出,社交可以减缓压力,故选B。

We also have plans for a public performance of Julius Caesar by our Drama Group next April. We are going to do this in order to raise money for our agricultural project. We have written to a well-known theatrical producer. He has promised to help in the production of the play,so we shall have the best possible advice and assistance for the performance.
Our secretary has sent a circular to all our members asking for their co-operation to make a success of all these proposals. So far we have not had many inquiries. We shall need the support of all of you in our various activities. If you have not received the secretary's circular, will you please see him after the meeting?Thank you.

Imagine a world in which there was suddenly no emotion—a world in which human beings could feel no love or happiness, no terror or hate. Try to imagine the consequences of such a transformation.People might not be able to stay alive: knowing neither joy nor pleasure, anxiety nor fear, they would be as likely to repeat acts that hurt them as acts that were beneficial. They could not learn: they could not benefit from experience because this emotionless world would lack rewards and punishments. Society would soon disappear: people would be as likely to harm one another as to provide help and support. Human relationships would not exist: in a world without friends or enemies, there could be no marriage, affection among companions, or bonds (关系) among members of groups. Society's economic underpinnings (支柱) would be destroyed: since earning $10 million would be no more pleasant than earning $10, there would be no incentive to work.In fact, there would be no incentives of any kind, for as we will see, incentives imply a capacity to enjoy them.
In such a world, the chances that the human species would survive are next to zero, because emotions are the basic instruments of our survival and adaptation. Emotions structure the world for us in important ways. As individuals, we categorize objects on the basis of our emotions. True, we consider the length, shape, size, or texture, but an object's physical aspects are less important than what it has done or can do to us—hurt us, surprise us, anger us or make us joyful. We also use categorizations colored by emotions in our families, communities, and overall society. Out of our emotional
experiences with objects and events comes a social feeling of agreement that certain things and actions are “good” and others are “bad”,and we apply these categories to every aspect of our social life—from what foods we eat and what clothes we wear to how we keep promises and which people our group will accept. In fact, society uses our emotional reactions and attitudes, such as loyalty, morality, pride, shame, guilt, fear and greed, in order to maintain itself. It gives high rewards to individuals who perform important tasks such as surgery, makes heroes out of individuals for unusual or dangerous achievements such as flying fighter planes in a war, and uses the legal penal (刑法的) system to make people afraid to engage in antisocial acts.
12.Which of the following is TRUE according to the first paragraph?
A.People would not be able to tell the texture of objects.
B.People would not know what was beneficial and what was harmful to them.
C.$10 million is equal to $10 in a world without emotions.
D.There would be full of lies, arguments and violence.
答案B[细节理解题。

A项第一段未提及。

第一段中“...since earning $10 million would be no more pleasant than earning $10, ”并没表达$10 million等于$10的意思,C项是对该句话的曲解。

通过“a world in which human beings could feel no love or happiness,no terror or hate”可知D项是错误答案。

]
13.It can be inferred from the passage that the economic foundation of society is dependent on ____.
A.the ability to make money
B.the capacity to work
C.the stimulus to work
D.the categorizations of our emotional experiences
答案C[推理判断题。

从第一段“since earning $10 million would be no more pleasant than earning $10,there would be no incentive to work. In fact, there would be no incentives of any kind, for as we will see, incentives imply a capacity to enjoy them.”可知人们工作的积极性是需要“incentives =stimulus”来调动的。

] 14.Why are the emotional aspects of an object more important than its physical
aspects?
A.They help society use its members for profit.
B.They encourage us to perform important tasks.
C.They help to perfect the legal and penal system.
D.They help us adapt our behaviors to the world surrounding us.
答案D[细节理解题。

通过第二段“In such a world, the chances that the human species would survive are next to zero, because emotions are the basic instruments of our survival and adaptation.”可知情感可以帮助我们适应环境。

]
15.What is the text mainly about?
A.People could only live in a world with emotions.
B.People would always do bad things in the emotionless world.
C.Emotions are very important in the world.
D.Emotions structure the world for us in important ways.
答案C[主旨大意题。

第一段的描述向人们展示没有感情的世界有多么的可怕,第二段进一步说明事物的情感方面比其自然方面要重要得多。

由此可知本文主要讲情感的重要性。

Over the last 25 years,British society has changed a great deal—or at least many parts of it have._16_ Ideas about social class—whether a person is“working-class”or“middle-class”—are one area in which changes have been extremely slow.
In the past, the working-class tended to be paid less than middle-class people. The
typical working man would collect his wages on Friday evening and then,it was widely believed, having given his wife her“housekeeping”,would go out and squander the rest on beer and betting.
The old style of what a middle-class man did with his money was perhaps nearer the truth. He was—and still is—inclined to take a longer-term view. Not only did he regard
buying a house as a most important thing, but he also considered the education of his children as extremely important._17_ Only in very few cases did workers have the opportunity(or the education and training)to make such long-term plans.
_18_ In a large number of cases factory workers earn as much as their middle-class supervisors(管理者).Social security and laws to improve century, have made it less necessary than before to worry abou t“tomorrow”.Working-class people seem slowly to be losing the feeling of inferiority(自卑感).In fact there has been a growing tendency in the past few years for the middle classes to feel slightly ashamed of their position.
_19_ They generally tend to share very similar tastes in music and clothes, spend their money in having a good time, and save for holidays or longer-term plans when necessary. There seems to be much less difference than in precious generations._20_ As long as this gap exists, there will always be a possibility that new conflicts and jealousies will emerge,or rather that the old conflicts will re-appear,but between different groups.
A.Nowadays,a great deal has changed.
B.Both of these provided him and his family with security.
C.As a result, differences in life-styles and attitudes came into existence.
D.However,we still have a wide gap between the well-paid and the low-paid.
E.In recent years, the working-class people have begun to design long-term plans.
F.In some ways, however, very little has changed, particularly where attitudes are concerned.
G.The changes in both life-styles and attitudes are probably most easily seen amongst younger people.

We are now living in an information age,in which TV,cells and the Web are widely used.It seems that many people cannot enjoy themselves without them.
However,if I had to give up one of them,I would turn off the TV rather than switch off my cell or cut off the Internet.I could do without TV because few shows take my fancy and there're too many commercials.Besides, most programs on TV are also available elsewhere.
As for cells and the Web,they are more necessary to me.I need a cell to keep in touch with my friends and family, and almost all information can be gathered on the Internet.。
