Exercise is the Best Way to Relax
Do you ever feel stressed out, wound up, or just full of extra energy you can't get rid of? I sure do! School can be really hard some days with all the homework, tests, and having to sit still for so long. My parents are always telling me to go run around outside when I get home to "burn off some steam." At first I didn't really get what they meant, but now I totally understand - exercise is awesome for helping me relax!
Whenever I'm feeling bouncy, restless, or keyed up after school, I head straight outside to our backyard. Sometimes I just run laps around the yard, other times I'll kick a soccer ball against the side of the garage. If I'm in a climbing kind of mood, I'll scramble up the big oak tree. My favorite is when my best friend Tyler comes over and we can toss a football or frisbee back and forth. No matter what I choose to do, I always feel so much calmer and more relaxed afterwards.
I think exercise is the best way to relax because it lets you work out all your jumpy, hyper energy in a fun way. When you're just sitting around, all that built up movement and liveliness gets trapped inside. But when you get moving and active, you can finally release it. It's like shaking up a soda bottle and then opening it - all the fizziness comes out in a big burst. Except with exercise, it's a good kind of burst that makes you feel better, not a sticky mess!
Another reason exercise relaxes me is because it makes me focus just on my body instead of worrying about other stuff. Like when I'm dribbling a basketball, I have to really pay attention to bouncing it perfectly. That doesn't leave any room in my brain to fret about that spelling test I have coming up. Or when I'm lifting weights with my arm muscles, I can't think about anything except counting the reps and breathing steadily. It's like exercise pushes out all the other thoughts swirling around in my head and lets me just be in the moment. No wonder they call it "being present!"
My favorite part about using exercise to relax is that it works my body and mind at the same time. I mean, yeah, running around and playing definitely gets my heart pumping and makes me sweat. But it also just makes my mind feel more settled and
calm. It's hitting two birds with one stone! After a good bout of exercise, my body is pleasantly tired and my mind is cleared out like a weight has been lifted off. I can think more clearly without so much nervous static bouncing around.
Sometimes if I'm feeling really anxious about something, like public speaking or a big test coming up, I'll go for a long walk or bike ride. The repetitive motions of striding along or pedaling somehow manages to slowly drain out all my jittery nerves and worry-thoughts. By the time I get back home, I'm feeling so much more level-headed and unruffled about the situation. I'm not sure exactly why it works, but exercise just has this incredible power to wash away anxiousness.
Of course, exercise doesn't magically make all my problems and stresses disappear forever. But it does an amazing job of helping me reset and refreshing my mind when I'm feeling overwhelmed or tightly-wound. If I have a ton of homework piling up and I'm getting flustered about it, a quick run around the block helps me come back to it with a clearer perspective. Or if I've had a really long, overstuffed day, going for a swim leaves me feeling rejuvenated instead of ready to pass out from fatigue.
I can't imagine trying to stay relaxed if I didn't exercise. Whenever my parents ask me what's wrong if I'm grouchy or
fidgety, the first thing I ask is if I can go outside to play. Just that little break to exert myself usually fixes my grumpy mood. Exercise is like a reset button that lets me start fresh without carrying around as much angst and unease.
So if you're looking for a way to relax and unwind, follow my lead! Anything that gets your body moving makes a great stress-release: sports, dancing, swimming, hiking, you name it. I think it's the best way to stay levelheaded when life feels like it's getting too chaotic. Instead of staying cooped up inside with your worries, get out and get sweating! Exercise is the Best Way to Relax
Do you ever feel stressed out or worried? Maybe you have a big test coming up or you're fighting with your best friend. When I'm feeling tense or anxious, I know the perfect way to calm down – exercise! Working out and being active is my go-to
method for relaxing. It clears my mind and puts me in a much better mood. Let me tell you all about the incredible relaxation benefits of exercise.
First off, exercise releases something called endorphins in your brain. Endorphins are like nature's relaxation medicine! They are brain chemicals that interact with receptors to reduce your perception of pain and trigger positive feelings. So when you work out and get your heart pumping, it's like taking a big chill pill for your mind and body. The endorphins make you feel happier, calmer, and more at ease.
Have you ever gone for a long walk or run and felt so much better afterwards, even if you were stressed before? That's the endorphins kicking in! Anytime I've had a tough day at school, running around at recess or playing hard at P.E. helps turn my frown upside down. My mom says exercise gives her an "endorphin high" and she always feels relaxed and refreshed after a good workout.
In addition to those calming endorphins, exercise also helps me sleep better at night. When I've had a lot of energy during the day from being active, I'm able to fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply. And we all know how important it is to get enough
sleep – if I'm well-rested, I feel way less stressed and cranky the next day.
There's nothing worse than tossing and turning all night, stressing about a spelling test or a fight with your friend. But after a long bike ride or swim session, I'm zonked! I sleep like a log and wake up feeling re-energized to take on a new day. No more nighttime worries keeping me awake.
Another way exercise relaxes me is by giving me a break from whatever was stressing me out in the first place. When I'm on the soccer field or the basketball court, I can't think about anything except the game I'm playing. It forces me to live in the present moment rather than worrying about the future or dwelling on the past.
I remember one time I was really nervous about my times tables test the next day. I couldn't stop thinking about how bad I am at math and how I might fail. But then I went outside for a bike ride and focused just on pedaling and enjoying the warm spring air. When I came back an hour later, my mind felt totally refreshed. The math test wasn't even on my mind anymore!
Exercising also relaxes me by providing an outlet for pentup emotional energy. Whenever I'm feeling angry, frustrated, or sad, going for a long run or hitting a punching bag helps me work
through those feelings in a healthy way. I can take out my aggression and bad mood on the exercise rather than taking it out on people or objects around me. By the time I've finished my workout, I've sweated out most of my negative emotions.
It's like my mom always says, "Don't bottle up your feelings –exercise them out!" Getting my body moving helps release the emotional tension I'm holding inside. Instead of yelling at my little brother when he annoying me, I know it's better to put on my running shoes and work off some steam. I come back feeling lighter and less grouchy.
Finally, exercise relaxes me by providing a sense of accomplishment and boosting my self-confidence. Whenever I can beat my personal best time running a mile or score more goals than I ever have in a basketball game, I feel so proud and powerful. I accomplished something positive through my own skills and hard work. That sense of achievement relaxes my mind by reminding me how capable I am. It's a great confidence boost!
I remember the first time I was finally able to do five pull-ups in a row after weeks of struggling. I felt like I could conquer the world! That pride and self-assurance helped me relax about an upcoming book report I had been stressing over. I thought to
myself, "If I can do five pull-ups through persistence and effort, I can definitely nail this book report too." Feeling accomplished gives you the calm self-belief to take on other challenges.
So as you can see, exercise is an incredibly effective tool for relaxing the mind and body in so many ways. It pumps you full of mood-boosting endorphins, helps you sleep better at night, forces you to live in the present, and provides an outlet for negative emotions. Not to mention giving you a
confidence-boosting sense of achievement. Phew, writing this essay has made me want to go for a nice long jog!

Hey there! I'm just a kid, but I've learned that exercise is one of the best ways to relax and feel good. You might think exercise
is all about getting sweaty and tired, but it's actually a great way to calm your mind and body.
I know what you're thinking – "But I'm already relaxed when I'm lounging on the couch watching TV or playing video games!" That used to be me too. But then I started exercising regularly, and I realized how much better I felt afterwards.
Let me tell you about the first time I really got into exercise. It was during PE class at school. Our teacher had us running laps around the gym. At first, I was huffing and puffing, and I thought, "This is terrible! How could anyone enjoy this?" But after a little while, I started to feel something changing. My body was warming up, and my mind started to feel calmer. By the end of the class, I was smiling and felt totally refreshed.
From that day on, I made sure to exercise as much as I could. My parents started taking me to the park on weekends, and we'd go for long walks or bike rides together. Sometimes we'd have races or play games like tag or frisbee. It was so much fun!

The best thing is, you don't have to be a super athlete or join a sports team to get the relaxing benefits of exercise. Just find activities you enjoy, whether it's shooting hoops, jumping on a
trampoline, swimming, or playing active video games. As long as you're moving your body regularly, you'll start to feel less stressed and more relaxed.
