During my elementary school years, I used to compare my mom with my best friend Tiffany’s mom。
Tiffany’s mom always gave her lots of money to buy the most fashionable clothes and favorite food。
Her mom allowed her to do anything she liked. I really admired Tiffany. My mom didn’t give me much pocket money and she always told me that I should behave myself. I was annoyed with her.
Whenever I didn’t get what I wanted,I would complain(抱怨) to my mom,Tiffany’s mom would give her that!I wish she were my mom。
Every time,my mom would calmly say “poor Tiffany”. I couldn't understand her. “She shouldn’t be feeling sorry for Tiffany!” I thought. “She should be feeling sorry for me。
”
One day,I couldn’t help saying to mom, “Poor Tiffany? Lucky Tiffany! She gets everything she wants! Why do you feel sorry for her?" I burst into tears。
My mom sat down next to me and said softly。
“Yes, I do feel sorry for her. I have been teaching you a lesson that she will never be taught。
"
I looked up at her. “What are you talking about?"
Mom said with care, “One day she will really want something。
Maybe she’ll find out that she can’t have it。
Her mother won’t always be around to give her money, and what's more, money can’t buy everything。
”
She continued,“I have taught you valuable lessons by not giving you everything you want. You'll know how to look for bargains and save money, but she won’t。
You’ll understand that you need to work hard to get the things that you want but she won’t。
I thought that Tiffany was spoiled by her mother. When Tiffany is a grown woman, she’ll wake up one day and she will be wishing that she had a mom like the one you’ve got。
Life lessons are more important than modern clothes and delicious food.”
It took some time, but finally I underst ood my mom’s words。
Now I am a happy and successful woman。

In the United States, 30 percent of the adult(成年人)population has a “weight problem”. To many people, the cause is clear:We eat too much。
But scientific evidence does little to support this idea. Going back to the America of 1910,we find that people were slimmer than today, yet they ate more food. In those days people worked harder physically, walked more, used machines much less, and didn’t watch television.
Several modern studies, moreover, have shown that fatter people don’t eat more on average than thinner people。
In fact, some investigations (researches), such as a 1970 study of 3,545 London office workers, report that, on balance, fat people eat less than slimmer people.
Studies show that slim people are more active than fat people。
A study by a research group at Stanford University School of Medicine found the following interesting facts。
The more the men ran, the greater loss of body fat.
The more they ran, the greater their increase in food intake(吸收).
Thus those who ran the most ate the most, yet lost greatest amount of body fat。
67. According to the article, suppose there are 500 adult Americans, about how many of them
will have weight problems?
A。
150 B. 100 C。

68. Is there scientific evidence to support eating too much is the cause of a “weight problem”?
A。
Yes, there is plenty of evidence.
B。
There is hardly any scientific evidence to support this.
C。
Of course, there is some evidence to show this is true.
D. We don’t know because the information is not given。
69。
In comparison(比较)with the adult American population today, the Americans of 1910____.
A. had more weight problems
B. ate less food but had more activities
C. ate less food and had less physical exercises
D. ate more food and had more physical activities
70. What have modern medical and scientific researches reported to us?
A. Thin people run less, but have greater increase in food intake。
B。
Fat people eat more food than slim people but are less active。
C。
Fat people eat more food than slim people and are more active.
D。
Fat people eat less food and are less active。

I could see that the situation was bad, and they showed a map where the fires were burning。
Outside in the garden,I couldn’t see the sun,as the sky was full of smoke. I decided to leave. My son was staying in town and my husband was abroad so it was up to me to decide what to do. I packed a suitcase of clothes。
I took my passport and my bankbook and all the money I had。
Out in the garden the sky was getting blacker, and the wind, which had been blowing hard for two days, was getting stronger. I could now hear the sound of the fire only a mile or two away。
I got into my car and drove down the road. The smoke was thick. Animals were running across the road, trying to escape the fire. Five miles down the road I came to a long bridge over the river. Once on the other side,I knew I was safe.

I am Li Ming , a student of Senior One。
I am writing to tell you about some symptoms of anxiety among us students before exams。
Most of us feel nervous when taking an important exam。
Some feel dizzy or tired, some lose their appetites and others even suffer from sleep problems,of which all have terrible effects on our exams.
Then how to get rid of these bad symptoms? In my opinion, first of all, it’s important to have
a positive attitude towards exams, as they are only a means of checking how we are getting along with our study, so there is no need to worry too much about the exam results. Study hard every day and make careful plans, and then we will reduce the pressure of exams.
Besides, enough sleep can make us energetic and enable us to perform well in an exam。
Therefore,we should not stay up too late before the exams。
Having a warm bath or a cup of milk before going to bed can contribute to a good sleep。
