Death n.死；死亡 eg:Her death surprised us all.她的死使我们大家都很吃惊。

die v.“死；去世”，是短暂性动词，不能和延续性时间状语连用。

Her grandma died two years ago.她奶奶两年前去世了。

（2）dead adj.“死的；死亡的”，be dead表示延续的状态，可与表一段时问的状语连用。

Her grandma has been dead for two years．她奶奶已去世两年了。

(3)dying是die的现在分词，也可作形容词，意为“垂死的”。

Let’s try to save the dying bird，or it will die／be dead．
让我们设法救救这只垂死的鸟吧，否则它就会死。

2.afford v.负担得起；支付得起(时间、金钱等)
He can afford an apartment．他能买得起一套住房。

(1)afford常与can，could或be able to连用，并用名词、代词或动词不定式作宾语。

(2)afford to do sth．意为“负担得起干某事”。

I can’t afford to buy that car．我买不起那辆小汽车。

3.himself pron.他自己。

反身代词在句中作宾语、表语或主语的同位语。

You can do it yourself．你可以自己做。

常见反身代词构成的短语有：
enjoy oneself玩得高兴teach onese lf某人自学by oneself某人自己help yourself／yourselves to sth．随便吃某物 for oneself为了某人自己
4.waste v.浪费；滥用Don’t wa ste．Save!别浪费，要节省!
(1)waste n．浪费；废弃物
It’s a waste of time．这是浪费时间。

(2)waste adj废弃的；荒芜的 many waste lands许多荒地
5.take pride in =be proud of 对...感到自豪
6.pay attention to “对...注意;留心”后接名词、代词或动名词。

7．g ive up “放弃”后接名词、代词或动名词
8．词语辨析：at the end of ; by the end of 与in the end.
(1)at the end of 意为“在...的最后/结尾；在....的末端”。

At the end of the road, you’ll find the shop.在这条路的尽头，你会找到那家商店。

（2）by the end of 意为“在......结束时，到......为止”，常与完成时连用。
