(主要推展句1)Teaching is the most difficult of the various ways I have attempted to earn my living: mechanic, carpenter, writer. (主要推展句2)For me, teaching is a red-eye, sweaty-palm, sinking-stomach profession. (次要推展句 1)Red-eye, because I never feel ready to teach no matter how late I stay up preparing. 剑桥雅思真题9-写作(Test 4 附高分范文)

剑桥雅思真题9—写作(Test 4 附高分范文)Writing Task 1You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.Write at least 150 words.参考范文1:The graph shows energy consumption in the US from 1980 to 2012, and projected consumption to 2030.Petrol and oil are the dominant fuel sources throughout this period, with 35 quadrillion (35q) units used in 1980,rising to 42q in 2012. Despite some initial fluctuation, from 1995 there was a steady increase. This is expected to continue, reaching 47q in 2030.Consumption of energy derived from natural gas and coal is similar over the period. From 20q and 15q respectively in 1980,gas showed an initial fall and coal a gradual increase, with the two fuels equal between 1985 and 1990. Consumption has fluctuated since 1990 but both now provide 24q. Coal is predicted to increase steadily to 31q in 2030, whereas after 2014, gas will remain stable at 25q.In 1980, energy from nuclear, hydro- and solar/wind power was equal at only 4q. Nuclear has risen by 3q, and solar/wind by 2. After slight increases, hydropower has fallen back to the 1980 figure. It is expected to maintain this level until 2030, while the others should rise slightly after 2025.Overall, the US will continue to rely on fossil fuels, with sustainable and nuclear energysources remaining relatively insignificant.参考范文2:The line graph provides information about the consumption of energy by fuel in the United States of America since 1980 with projections until 2030.The most dominant fuel sources throughout the period are petrol and oil. Starting with 35 quadrillion units in 1980, it reached about 42 quadrillions in 2013. It is estimated that by 2030 this fuel source will reach 48 quadrillion units.Consumption of energy derived from coal and natural gas is quite smaller. From 20 and 15 quadrillion units in the beginning of the period, natural gas had a slight decline and coal a gradual increase. The two fuels were equal from 1985 to 1990, when coal began to lead. It is predicted that coal will increase steadily to 32 quadrillion units in 2030, while natural gas will remain stable at 25 quadrillion units. The least prevailing fuel sources in this period are nuclear, hydropower, solar and wind. All of the fuels started with 4 quadrillion units in 1980. Thereafter, nuclear risen to 7 quadrillion units in 2010, while at the same time solar and wind increased only by 1 quadrillion unit. Hydropower had some insignificant rises and fell to the 1980 figure. It is predicted that all these fuels will maintain their levels until 2025, when nuclear, solar and wind will rise slightly.Overall, the United States of America will continue to rely on petrol and oil with less significant usage of sustainable, nuclear and environmentally friendly fuel.Writing Task 2You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.Write about the following topic:Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.Write at least 250 words.参考范文:Every year several languages die out. Some people think that this is not important, because life will be easier if there are fewer languages in the world. I do not agree with this opinion. Language, other than communication, has many other functions. To begin with, different languages make the world more interesting. If all men are speaking the same language, it would be like all men are wearing the same clothes, the world would be monotonic and boring. The society needs different dialects and accents.Another important reason is that language is the carrier of culture. Every specific nation passes their customs and traditions through language. Sometimes language is a symbol of unity. People speak the same language feel close to each other. The language helps keep their culture alive and gives them a sense of belonging.Last but not least, language determines our thinking patterns. When one language dies out, we not only lose a way of speaking, but lose a way of thinking. Some people may think communication would be much easier if we all speak the samelanguage. However, we should commit that sometimes it is convenient to express real feelings in dialects and accents. In conclusion, a language, no matter how few its speakers are, is invaluable cultural heritage of human beings. Therefore, we should cherish this wealth, protect language diversity and carry all languages down from generation to generation.。

1Appreciate What You HaveIt seems that people tend to shed tears for what they have lost but turn a poker face at what they are still holding tightly in hand. How much sorrow would vanish if people could learn to appreciate what they have! Here is a story I heard once. A successful artist was being interviewed. Suffering from a rare disease, the young woman had to stay in a wheelchair and wasn’t able to speak. The interview went on smoothly until a journalist asked: “As a seriously disabled,·miserable person, why are the teachers cheerful?” The room fell into an embarrassed silence, but the woman didn’t seem to care. Picking up a piece of chalk with her swollen hand, she started writing on the blackboard. The words were ugly but still powerful: “I am happy to have a pair of beautiful legs.” “I feel great to wake up with sunshine through my window.’’ “I am glad to have a healthy brain to keep thinking and working. “Most important of all, I only care about what I have instead of what I have lost.’’ All the journalists present were deeply moved.Had the artist always buried herself in woe of losing, she wouldn’t have made any progress and been respected by healthy people. Losing is usually evitable and unavoidable. So why should we lose heart for what we can’t change? By the way, there is something that we can hardly lose, such as a bumping heart,a movable hand, and the air around us, which we are used to turning a blind eye to but can never live without. Learn to treasure them, and your life will be free of regrets and misery.Appreciate what you have. Don’t let your smile fade for anything that doesn’t belong to you.高分范文2Appreciate What You HaveI used to be grievous due to what I’ve lost, the majority of people do, neglecting what I’ve already possessed. However, an unexpected incident changed my point of view and taught me to appreciate what I have, which I’ve benefited from. When I was in Grade Eight, I was a member of our school choir. Confident of my sweet voice, I was delighted to enter for the singing competition. Undoubtedly,I was applauded when I finished my last high note, thus being sure to win. However, the first prize didn’t belong to me. Shocked and grievous, I couldn’t help but weep in a small voice. I lost the first prize I’ve been dreaming of! Just then, a handkerchief was passed in front of me. I raised my head and saw my friend Alice. “Cheer up! You did perform well to the audience, didn’t you? You shouldn’t stick to what you lost but should appreciate what you have. You got the second prize and importantly, you are gifted with a beautiful voice with which you can succeed next time!” A warm smile and words of comfort relieved me of my grief, and I was no longer in low spirits. The incident left a deep impression on me in that it taught me the importance of appreciating what I have. Since life is full of difficulties, I can’t stick to the grief of what I've lost. Only byappreciating what I have can I have a positive mind with which to embrace my future life. Both the incident and my friend’s words will be cherished for good, reminding me to become positive at my life’s crossroads.Writing 2你的同学林华最近在学习上碰到了一些困难,自信不足,有些泄气。

英语写作4 story writing skill

Indirect Characterization
The old man bowed to all of us in the room. Then he removed his hat and gloves, slowly and carefully. Chaplin once did that in a picture, in a bank-- he was the janitor.
Techniques for successful narration
Use chronological order
Most stories are best told in the order in which they happen, with background details near the beginning of the narrative. Chronological order helps your story unfold in a way that is logical to your reader.
Techniques for successful narration
Make a point
The purpose of the story is its reason for existence, the reason that you find it worth telling. If no change takes place, if nothing significant happens, your reader will say impatiently, ―what is the point?‖ Having a point does not mean that your story needs to have a moral, like an Aesop’s fable. It simply means that you should know why you are telling it. As with any type of essay or paragraph, you should be able to state your point in one sentence: your thesis statement or topic sentence.

读写教程4unit1作文

读写教程4unit1作文英文回答:In Unit 1 of the Writing Tutorial 4, we learn about the importance of effective communication in both written and spoken forms. Effective communication is essential in our daily lives, whether it is in our personal relationships or professional interactions. One of the key aspects of effective communication is clarity. When we communicate, we need to ensure that our message is clear and easily understood by the recipient. This can be achieved by using simple language, avoiding jargon or technical terms that the other person may not be familiar with. For example, instead of saying "I need to reschedule our meeting due to a conflicting commitment," I could say "I have another appointment at that time, can we find another time to meet?"Another important aspect of effective communication isactive listening. It is not enough to just speak or write, but we also need to listen carefully to what the other person is saying. This shows respect and understanding towards the other person's perspective. For instance, when my friend is telling me about a problem they are facing, I can actively listen by nodding, asking follow-up questions, and providing empathetic responses.Furthermore, non-verbal communication plays a crucial role in conveying our message. Our body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice can greatly impact how our message is perceived by others. For example, if I am giving a presentation and I speak with confidence, maintain eye contact, and use appropriate gestures, it will enhance the effectiveness of my communication. In addition, cultural sensitivity is important in effective communication. Different cultures have different communication styles and norms. It is crucial to be aware of these differences and adapt our communication accordingly. For instance, in some cultures, it is considered rude to interrupt someone while they arespeaking, while in others it may be seen as a sign of active engagement in the conversation.中文回答:在《写作教程4》的第一单元中,我们学习到了有效沟通在书面和口头形式上的重要性。
数字4的写法英语作文

数字4的写法英语作文Title: The Representation of the Number Four in English Writing。
In the English language, the representation of numbers carries significance beyond mere numerical value; it often reflects cultural, historical, and linguistic influences. One such number, four, holds particular significance and is represented in various forms across different contexts. This essay explores the diverse ways in which the number four is written and its significance in English writing. To begin with, let us delve into the linguistic representation of the number four. In English, "four" is the cardinal number denoting the quantity that comes after three and before five. It is a monosyllabic word, commonly used in everyday conversations, literature, and academic discourse. The spelling of "four" follows standard English orthography rules, comprising the letters 'f,' 'o,' 'u,' and 'r.' This representation is consistent across mostEnglish-speaking regions, regardless of dialectal variations.Beyond its basic representation, the number four finds expression in various forms, including cardinal, ordinal, and nominal. As a cardinal number, it indicates quantity, such as "four apples" or "four books." In its ordinal form, it denotes position or order, as in "the fourth chapter" or "the fourth place." Additionally, "four" can also function nominally, as in "the four seasons" or "the Fab Four," referring to the iconic British band, The Beatles. Moreover, the symbolic significance of the number four extends beyond its literal meaning. In many cultures and belief systems, four is imbued with symbolism and superstition. For instance, in Chinese culture, the number four (四, pinyin: sì) is considered unlucky due to its phonetic similarity to the word for "death" (死, pinyin:sǐ). Consequently, it is often avoided in various contexts, such as building floors and phone numbers. Conversely, in Western cultures, particularly in Judeo-Christiantraditions, four is associated with stability, balance, andcompleteness, reflecting the four cardinal directions (north, south, east, and west) or the four elements (earth, air, fire, and water).Furthermore, the representation of the number four in literature and symbolism is rich and varied. It often appears in allegorical contexts, representing concepts such as harmony, symmetry, and totality. In George Orwell's dystopian novel "1984," for example, the Party's slogan "War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength"is structured around the paradoxical repetition of four phrases, reflecting the oppressive regime's manipulation of truth and language. In mathematics, four holds significance in various mathematical concepts and operations. It is the smallest composite number, divisible by both two and itself, and serves as the base of the quaternary numeral system. Additionally, four is integral to geometric shapes such as squares and rectangles, with four sides and four angles, symbolizing stability and balance in architectural and design principles. In conclusion, the representation of the number four in English writing encompasses linguistic, cultural, and symbolic dimensions. From its basic spelling to its symbolic significance in various cultural contexts, four occupies a prominent place in the lexicon of the English language. Whether as a cardinal number denoting quantity, an ordinal number indicating position, or a symbol of cultural significance, the number four enriches English writing with its versatility and depth of meaning.。

1.What makes a better source of news, television or newspapers? State your opinion and explainit in details. For most of us today, television has become our main source of daily news. This is unfortunate, however, because for several reasons newspapers should be regarded as a better source. It is true that television news can vividly bring into our living rooms dramatic events of singular importance, such as space launching, natural disasters, wars and so on, but it cannot cover important stories in the depth they may deserve because of its time limitation. On the contrary, print news excels in its ability to devote as much space to a story as it sees fit, though it can not compete with television visually. Besides, television is essentially a passive medium. Whether we like a particular piece of news or not, all we have to do is sit in front of the tube and “let it happen”. But a newspaper reader can select what he is interested in, skip what he thinks boring or irrelevant and read it any time he likes to. Most importantly, if all of us get news and information exclusively from television, there will be a decline in general literacy. By contrast, although to follow and absorb a newspaper article is a little bit hard as it requires a high level of mental involvement, it helps to develop one’s intellectual skills. When we consider television versus newspaper on the basis of nature, format and coverage, shouldn’t we think the latter is a better source of our daily news?2.Which mode of travel do you like, package tours/traveling with a companion or traveling onyour own? And why?(1)With the general standard of living improving and the working week becoming shorter, more and more people are able to make a holiday trip to places of interest. While many like to join package tours for convenience, I prefer to travel on my own.I like traveling on my own not only because it costs much less but because it gives agreat degree of independence and freedom. Traveling on my own, I’m my own boss; and can decide when to start on my way, where to linger a little longer and which spot can be skipped over to save energy or time for another spot. I can always adjust my plan. However, things would be totally different if I were in a package tour. I would be deprived of as much freedom as in a military base. At the sound of the whistle, I had to jump up from a sound sleep and, with heavy-lidded eyes, hurry to the gathering place to board a coach. At the sight of the little flag waving, I must immediately take myself away from the scenes I was marveling at and follow the guide whose sole interest was to cover all spots according to his strict schedule, regardless of the weather or my health condition.True, I may encounter inconveniences if I travel individually, for instance, getting accommodations for the night and finding a place for meals. But nothing can be compared with the freedom which is vital to a person who takes a holiday trip mainly to escape from constraints of his routine life.(2)When it comes to a traveling way, different people will offer different opinions. Some people like to travel alone, while others prefer to travel with a companion. Of course every one has different considerations for his preference.Traveling alone one can enjoy more freedom. The traveler can arrange his tour as he wishes wthout the trouble of compromising with others. Morever, traveling alone tends to bring the traveler unexpected surprises, such as making a new friend and enjoying different scenery.Compared with traveling alone, traveling with a companion has also its advantages. For one thing, the group members can help and look after each other on the journey. For another, traveling with others who have the same interest, one can share experiences and pleasure with them.As for me, I prefer to travel with a companion. Firstly, we can together deal with the possible problems and difficulties on the journey. Secondly, I like to share the experience of traveling with others. In summary, both traveling alone and traveling with a companion have their own attractions and one can enjoy the pleasure of traveling from either of them.3.In the future, students may have the choice of studying at home by using technology such ascomputers or television or of studying at traditional schools. Which would you prefer? Use reasons and specific details to explain your choice.(1)The technology industry is growing at a faster rate as each year passes by. With a relatively inexpensive computer and a web camera, it is now possible for one to have a videoconference with one’s friends and colleagues. Students will soon be presented with the opportunity to study from home. However, I believe that attending a traditional school is greatly preferable to learning in a virtual classroom. The reasons are as follows.First of all, traditional schools allow students to socialize. Many people admit that they met their best friends while attending high school. Their friendships were solidified over spending hours and hours in the same classroom, and working together on group projects.Such bonds cannot be replaced by some acquaintances that they meet online. Besides, we can have more access to teachers in schools, from whom we can not only get direct guidance over the courses of study, but also obtain many precious life experiences and inspirations, helping to build up our own characters. Apparently, a virtual teacher will have far less influence.Lastly, traditional schools also have the advantage of training students for “the real world”.By attending a school club or reporting his work to teacher, for example, a student will come to realize what it means to work in a team environment or respect authority. The way that schools operate forces students to develop these important skills. In conclusion, I think it would be much more beneficial for all students to attend traditional schools rather than study at home. School education helps them to grasp the necessary social skills to survive in today’s fast-pace world.(2)Over the past few decades, students have had the opportunity to access diverse information in their fields of study by using media such as television, computers, the Internet, etc. This fact has caused very deep concerns among the public as to whether it is better for young people to study at home than at traditional schools. While I wouldn’t rule out the significant role of technology, I hold the view that it is better to study at traditional schools. In the first place, schools not only play an important role in teaching, but also conditionstudents for their future life. To put it more simply, students become familiar with other students, especially those of the same age, and they learn the most significant value in their social interactions with other people at school. They learn how to be sociable and fulfil their social needs. If students had not learned to communicate with others, they would have had reasonable problems in the course of time.Furthermore, students learn better at school with teachers and by making use of different utilities. To put the discussion in a wider context, consider a person who learns at home. He doesn’t have the possibility to use practical instruments in some courses like physic s and biology. Moreover, no one can ever deny that media has a wide range of information, but not all the information students need. Students may face critical problems in their studies. At school, they can ask teachers, and solve their problems. To sum up, technology has changed the world, and gives the chance to students to learn wherever they are and whenever they want, but it can never replace traditional schools, in which students learn valuable things.4. Some people prefer to work for themselves, while others prefer to work for an employer. What is your choice? Use specific reasons to explain it.There are many options to pursue a career. Some may choose to have their own business whereas others prefer to work for a company or institution. As discussed below, in my opinion, either way is good as long as the work one has chosen can make him happy.Being an owner of a business can be very satisfactory. As a business owner, one has opportunities to meet different people and do different types of work in the business. Besides, he is able to choose whatever time he likes to work, thus his schedule is much more flexible compared with people working for companies. Most importantly, self-employees usually earn more money than those who work for companies. In comparison, people working for a company have more benefits for training, health insurance and travelling. For example, companies nowadays usually provide formal training for a person who has little experience when he or she enters a field. Furthermore, company or government employees worry little about their insurance because the issue will be taken care of by their employers. Big companies will usually also allow them to travel to other places free for work. However, both business owners and employees of companies or institutions have their own problems. For instance, business owners have to deal with lots of trivial tasks and sacrifice their personal life for work, while employees of companies or institutions may complain about their little pays at times. To conclude, if the purpose is to pursue happiness, people should choose the work they like, whether working for their own or for others. It is difficult to simply tell one type of work is superior to the other because it all depends on one’s goal in his or her life.。
