(1)so…that…意为“如此……以至于……”，that引导的是结果状语从句，其结构是so +形容词或副词+that从句。
如：He ran so quickly that we couldn‟t catch up with him. 他跑得如此快以至于我们追不上他。
(2)so…that…可以换成such+(a/an)+形容词+名词+that…若单数名词前有形容词时，既可用so，也可用such，但不定冠词的位置却有所不同。
具体表现为：so+形容词+a(n)+名词=such+a(n)+形容词+名词。
如：It was so interesting a book that I read it the whole night.= It was such an interesting book that I read it the whole night.这本书很有趣，我读了一整夜。
注意：当名词被many, few, much, little等修饰时，一般用so而不用such。
如：There were so many people in the street watching the fire that fire fighters could no t get close to the building. 街上围观大火的人太多了，以至于消防队员无法靠近大楼。
2.The handbag is so expensive that the girl can‟t afford it. 那个包太贵了，那个小女孩买不起。
afford常接在can, could, be able to之后，意为“担负得起（……的费用，损失，后果等）；抽得出（时间）”。
