I.Teaching Objectives
1. Knowledge objectives
1) Students can master the main idea of this passage and know the basic information of Zhalong Nature Reserve.
2) Students can understand the meaning and usage of the new words and phrases, such as nature reserve, provide for, cover.
3) Students can develop vocabularies related to wildlife conservation.
2. Ability objective
Students can train their listening ability through audio, and understand the general information of the passage by skimming and scanning.
3. Moral objective
Students can learn about nature reserves and cultivate the awareness of caring for nature and protecting animals.
II.Teaching Key and Difficult Points
1. Students can master key words and phrases: cover, nature reserve, provide for, all year round, take an active part in, result in, etc.
2. Students can prehend the main idea of the passage.
3. Students can use vocabularies and phrases to discuss topics such as how to protect wild animals. III.Teaching Procedure
Step 1 Prereading (4 mins)
Play a song to students and present the following questions.
①Have you ever heard this song?
②Do you know what it is said about?
③Can you list some other wild animals?
Then have a free talk with students.
( Justification: This step can create a relaxing atmosphere, arouse students’ interest and lead in the topic.)
Step 2 Whilereading (6 mins)
Activity 1 Fast reading
Ask students to read the passage quickly and make notes about or underline the main idea of each paragraph. Then ask them to match these sentences into right order.
①About birds in Zhalong
②What the Birdwatching Society members do
③More people can help count and describe the birds
④Birds in Zhalong are in danger
⑤About Zhalong Nature Reserve
Activity 2 Careful reading
Play the tape and ask students to answer the following questions.
①Where is Zhalong?
②Why do we say Zhalong is a special place?
③What do tourists go there to do?
④Do the birds have enough food to eat?
Step 3 Postreading (5 mins)

How can we protect the redcrowned cranes or other wild animals? Please discuss in groups and write down some details. (ex. You may start from these points: laws, reserve, daily life) Homework (choose one of the two topics)
1. Write a position how to protect the wildlife.
2. Make a poster called “Protect our friends—animals”。
