二、课程简介
《综合英语I》是为英语专业一年级第一学期开设的一门专业基础课,旨在传授系统的基础语言知识(包括语音、语法、词汇与篇章的结构、语言功能等),训练基本语言技能(听、说、读、写、译),培养学生初步运用英语进行交际的能力,同时指导学生的学习方法,培养他们的思维能力,为进入高年级学习打下扎实的基础。
由于教学对象大多为今后的涉外人才,在本课程中融入社会主义思想政治教育尤其重要。
思政内容将特别体现在课堂学习中因地制宜潜移默化地培养社会主义价值观和正能量及培养语言文化自信。
Integrated English I is a course intended for first-year English majors to take in the first semester. The aim of this course is an all-round training of such basic language skills as listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating as well as enhancing students’knowledge in phonetics, grammar, vocabulary, discourse structure and linguistic functions. Much practice will be given as classroom activities in an attempt to help students develop their communicative skills as well as linguistic competence.
三、课程性质与教学目的
《英语英语I》是为英语专业一年级第一学期开设的一门专业基础课,也是一门综合英语技能课,其主要目的在于培养和提高学生综合运用英语的能力。
本课程主要通过语言基础训练与篇章讲解分析,使学生逐步提高语篇阅读理解能力,了解英语各种文体的表达方式和特点,扩大词汇量和熟悉英语常用句型,具备基本的口头和笔头表达能力。
教师应鼓励学生积极参与课堂的各种语言交际活动以获得基本的交际技能,锻炼学生的独立思考能力、收集处理信息能力、分析解决问题能力,丰富学生的社会文化知识,增强学生对文化差异的敏感性,宽容性以及处理文化差异的灵活性,注重
培养学生的跨文化交际能力,并达到《高等学校英语专业英语教学大纲》所规定的英语专业一级听、说、读、写、译等技能的要求。
同时,在有关章节引入社会主义思想政治教育,培养具有高度政治觉悟和文化自信的复合型外语人才。
四、教学内容及要求
●教学要求
《综合英语I》是为英语专业一年级学生第一学期所开设的一门主干课程,所针对的对象为中学毕业、刚进入大学英语专业学习的新生,因此,该课程的主要要求是帮助学生顺利且平稳地完成从新生入学到英语专业二级的衔接与过渡,并达到《高等学校英语专业英语教学大纲》中所规定的英语专业一级听、说、读、写、译等技能的要求。

●教学内容
◆整体内容
本课程选用的教材为《综合教程》第一册。
该教材为普通高等教育“十二五”国家级规划教材,是为高等院校英语专业一年级学生编写的英语基础课教材,由上海外国语大学、复旦大学、华东师范大学和上海师范大学四所大学合作编写。
该教材每册包括14个单元,供一个学期的教学使用。
每个单元的具体教学内容构成如下:Text I

与Text I相关的练习内容包括11个部分Pre-reading questions; Text comprehension; Structural analysis of the text; Vocabulary exercises; Grammar exercises; Translation exercises; Exercises for integrated skills; Phonetics; Oral activities; Writing practice; Listening exercises.
Pre-reading questions与课文的话题有关但不涉及课文的具体内容,起“热身”作用,引导学生进入本单元的主题。
Text comprehension设计的问题都与课文直接有关,其中既有对课文字面的、局部意义的理解,又有对课文的整体把握以及对内涵和寓意的理解,从而帮助学生在课
文理解方面做到既见树又见林。
Structural analysis of the text着重课文的总体结构分析,使学生对课文的层次、话题的展开获得比较清晰的认识,从而提高学生在篇章层面理解和把握课文的意识。
Vocabulary exercises包含多个类型的词汇练习,旨在通过多种练习形式帮助学生正确把握一些积极词汇的意义,拓展用法,熟练运用。
Grammar exercises挑选课文中出现的某一突出的语法现象进行操练;此外还包括针对某一常见语法项目的练习,从而增强学生的语法识别能力和应用能力。
这个部分的最后一个练习是模仿课文中的句型造句,以增强学生语言的活用能力。
Translation exercises为句子层面的汉译英翻译练习,检查学生运用所学词汇和短语进行翻译的能力。
Exercises for integrated skills分两个部分:一是听写,综合检查学生的听力、理解、语法和拼写能力;二是填空练习,检查学生的英语搭配能力、语法能力以及对语篇的整体理解能力。
Phonetics旨在帮助学生更准确地读出课文中的生词与词组,同时也复习基础的英语发音问题,如:语音语调、失爆、连读、强读与弱读等。
Oral activities是为学生围绕课文内容开展口语活动而设计的练习,关键是激发学生开口,培养他们用英语表述自己的观点和意见、与他人交流思想、进行辩论的能力。
Writing practice是有指导的写作练习,要求学生连词成句、扩句、连句、改写等,加强他们遣词造句的能力,为今后的段落写作、短文写作打下基础。
Listening exercises的编写是为了帮助学生提高英语听力的能力。
Text II是对Text I主题的扩展和深化,前后两篇课文可以起到相辅相成的作用。
Text II配有Questions for discussion一个练习,所提的问题可以开拓学生的思路,就相关问题提出自己的观点和看法,有利于进一步培养学生分析问题和解决问题的能力。
该课程所选用的教材的课文绝大多数为英美作者的原文,只在个别情况下有所删节和改动。
除个别经典文章外,绝大多数的课文选自20世纪70年代以来国外原版的教科书、报刊杂志和其他读物。
文篇的类型包括叙述文、说明文、论证文和描述文;涉及的主题包括社会、文化、政治、生态、科技,以及人文修养、人际关系、伦理道德、性格塑造,等等。
由此充分体现了编者的编写思想,即外语学习应该有助于增加学生的人文知识,提高他们的人文素养。

TEXT I Never Say Goodbye
1.主要内容(Main Idea)
The text is the author’s recall of the most important and unforgettable experiences that came about when he was between 10 and 12. He had learned from his grandfather the profound meaning of “Never say goodbye” and became firm and strong-willed as a child. The author wants to tell us that we should never give in to sadness, that we should always be firm and strong-willed, and that we should always remember the joyful and happy events of life as well as our cherished friendship. This message is conveyed through his grandfather’s narration of his own life experience.

教学方法与手段的详细说明(只在此单元中提供详细说明,其它单元不再重复赘述):《综合英语I》课堂教学应以学生为主体、教师为主导,改变过去以教师为中心的教学模式,注重培养学生的学习能力和研究能力。
在教学中要多开展以任务为中心的、形式多样的教学活动。
在加强基础训练的同时,采用启发式、讨论式、发现式和研究式的教学方法,充分调动学生学习的积极性,激发学生的学习动机,最大限度地让学生参与学习的全过程。
引导学生主动积极地利用现有图书资料和网上信息,获取知识,并使学生在运用知识的过程中培养各种能力。
同时,要注意教学方法的多样性,要根据不同的教学对象、教学内容、教学目的和要求,选择相应的教学方法如交际教学法,语篇分析法,语法翻译法等,并积极探索新的教学方法。
课堂教学要与学生的课外学习和实践活动相结合。
课外学习和实践是课堂教学的延伸与扩展,是培养和发展学生能力的重要途径,应在教师的指导下有目的、有计划、有组织地进行。
课外学习和实践活动应以课堂教学的内容为基础,激发学生的学习兴趣,以及培养学生的学习能力、语言综合运用能力、组织能力、交际能力、思维能力和创新能力。
活动应面向全体学生,注意发展个性,提倡人人参与,培养合作精神。
其形式可包括:课外阅读、演讲、辩论、读书报告会、戏剧表演、编辑报纸杂志等。
除参加校内课外学习和实践活动外,还应鼓励学生积极参加与专业相关的各种社会实践活动。
科学技术的迅猛发展和信息时代的到来,为教育手段的现代化提供了条件和保障,也为英语教学提供了丰富的资源。
教学手段的现代化关系到人才培养的质量。
要积极采用现代的、多元的和全方位的教学模式,在充分利用原有的电教设备(录音、录像机、投影、多媒体等)的基础上,积极探索和开发计算机辅助教学。
更新教学内容、提高教学效率、培养学生有效的学习方法创造条件。
同时也为学生提供一个更加灵活、方便、实用和广阔的学习和实践的空间。

The main idea that the author argues for is that good manners help you build up your own image and work wonders for the person on the receiving end. The first paragraph is the beginning part of the text. The second part of the text comprises Paragraphs 2, 3 and 4. The third part begins with the fifth paragraph and ends with the tenth. The last paragraph is the concluding part of the essay.

TEXT I Is an Only Child a Lonely Child?
1.主要内容(Main Idea)
The text, a piece of narration, first puts forward the issue of whether or not to have a second child, and mentions parents’ concern whether an only child necessarily means a lonely child. Then two common arguments against having only one child in the family are presented. After that, specific figures and facts are cited to show that despite the disadvantages many parents still choose to have only one child, and the author also points out some causes of their decision. Then the author continues to state the advantages of having a single child.
The text concludes that there is no simple answer to the question of whether or not to have a second child, and that the important thing, in the end, is to make the decision that a couple both feel confident about.

succeeded in slowing down the rapid expansion of her population. But every
coin has two sides, and so does China’s population policy. Probably you are
the only child of your family. Tell your fellow students, on the basis of your
own life experience, the advantages and disadvantages of being the only child
at home.
It is generally believed that the only child in the family tends to be spoiled as
too much love and care are lavished on him. Most of those born in the 80s and
90s of the 20th century are the only child in their families. People tend to think
they are selfish, self-centred, and lacking in the ability to communicate and
negotiate with others. You may not agree with them. Now hold a discussion, in
a group of four or five students, on how to demonstrate to society that you, the
only child in your respective families, can prove to be useful, valuable, and
trustworthy.

Movies were first made in Hollywood before World War I. Hollywood’s fame and fortune reached its peak in the 1930s and 1940s, the golden days of the black and white movies. In those days Hollywood was as attractive as a magnet, attracting ambitious young men and women from various parts of the world. But most of them were frustrated. The stars themselves were controlled firmly by the studio heads who could cause the stars to succeed or completely fail except those big stars who really appealed to the audience. The Hollywood studios, by means of advertising, turned young performers who played small parts in films and hoped to become famous into extremely famous and popular film stars. Today most of the Hollywood studios have been leased to television networks. About 80% of all American TV entertainment comes from Hollywood. Yet Hollywood has not lost all its glamour. Movie stars still live there. There is also the attractive Hollywood Bowl, the huge outdoor amphitheater where every summer since 1922 “Symphonies under the Stars”are played by America’s best orchestras before packed audiences. Hollywood, above all, has the glamour of the past. The old Hollywood movies will be shown again and again in movie houses and television screens all over the world.
