Unit 2Period 1 Wele to the unit
The main idea of the period:
The four pictures in this part can arouse the students' interest in traveling. Bytalking about these places, the students will know the beautiful world better,10ve nature and be willing to protect the surroundings. Then, the students arerequired to talk about their traveling experiences. They can learn from each otherhow to express themselves on traveling freely.
Teaching Aims:
1. Learn about traveling.
2. Develop the students' speaking ability by talking about places in the worldand traveling.

T: Hello, everyone !
Ss: Hello, teacher !
T: Nowadays, more and more people are interested in traveling on holidays. They want togo to different places and different countries to get close to nature toenjoy beautiful scenery. Now, I have some questions to ask you.
1. How do you spend your holidays?
2. What do you usually do on your holidays?
3. Is there anywhere you would particularly like to visit on holidays? Where and Why?
( give the students5 minutes to think them over or discuss them.)
T: Now I'd like some of you to answer these questions.Would you please tell me how you spend yourholidays? What do you usually do on your holidays?
S: I'm always busy with my study, for I have determinedto go to Beijing University. I have to attend trainingcourses.
S: I like to go shopping. Even if I don't have muchmoney, I still like to go window-shopping and I think I can get much pleasure out of that!
S: My favorite way to spend my holiday is to go hikingand climbing.
S: You know, the fierce petition needs continuouscharge. So I have to go to the library every day todo some reading.
S: I’d prefer going to the suburbs or the countryside tohave a piic.
S: I usually go out with friends to go fishing, go swimming and climb mountains.
S: l just want to relax myself at home watching TV orreading some books I like very much. I am alwaysbusy with my study at school and I need to have agood rest.
S: I enjoy playing puter games and surfing the Internet to have a free chat with my pals.
S: I'd like to pay a visit to lots of interesting and exciting places at home or abroad. One of my dreamsis to travel around the world.
T: Well done! As we know, most of people spend theirholidays by traveling. I guess one of the reasons ispeople always want something new in their life andare tired of their routine. After the busy study orwork, they need to relax and make themselvesrefreshed. Is there anywhere you would particularlylike to visit on holidays? Where and why?
S: Yeah, I think the best places to me are those withbeaches. You see, I really like beaches because I just like watching the water e in and 1 loveriding up and down the waves as they e intothe shore. So places like Qingdao and Dalian aregreat places to me.
S: Yes, I'd love to visit Xinjiang if I have a chance.Xinjiang is in the western part of China The peoplethere are most of minorities, and I've seen the landscape of Xinjiang in some pictures. It's incredible. IfI travel to Xinjiang, I'll take a train so that I can appreciate the landscape throughout ~he journey.
S: I would particularly like to visit Egypt, in whichthere are numerous awe-inspiring sights, includingrnagnificent and mysterious pyramids.
S: I'd rather choose to travel to Africa. African travelis very marvelous and exciting, I think.T: Sounds interesting. Now, please open your books topage 21 and look at the four postcards. Pleasediscuss them according to the questions below the pictures. A few minutes later, I’ll ask some of you to answer them for the class.

T: Now, please answer the three questions. First, Which of these placeswould you like to visit most?
S4: Picture 1. I'd like to visit Africa. There are many kinds of animals andbeautiful grasslands.
T: What about you?
S5: Picture 2. I think Australia is a most beautiful place. There are famousbeaches. You can lie on sand experiencing the sun after having fun in thesea. You can also find beautiful fishes and coral.
S6 :Picture 3. I'd like to explore the amazing Brazilian rainforest. It has richresources and it is a place full of mysteries. If we know more about therainforest,we can realize what we should do to protect our environmentand ourselves. Traveling there must be amazing and adventurous.
S7: Picture 4. I'd like to travel to the desert. I want to experience adventuretravel.
T: Excellent! We must be harmonious with nature. Which is very important? We like traveling. Have you ever been to some places?
Ss: Yes.
T:What is the most exciting place you have ever been to?
S8 :I've been to Lianyungang. It is a beautiful coastal city in the east of Jiangsu province. The poet Su Dongpo wrote a poem,describing the beauty of the scene. It is also Monkey King's home. I climbed the mountain in themorning and swam in the sea. At noon I had delicious seafood. It's anunforgettable experience.
S9 :The most exciting place that I have been to is the Taj Mahal(泰姬陵) in India. I went there with my father by air during the summer vacation. Taj Mahal means "Crown Palace" and in fact it is the most well-protected and beautiful tomb in the world. It was built in the 1600s in honour of a queen as a symbol of lasting love. It is beautiful and famous for its
color. The colours change at different hours of the day and during different seasons. Like a jewel,the Tai shines in
the moonlight when the stonescatch the glow of the moon. The Taj is pink in the morning,milky whitein the evening, and golden when the moon shines. These changes, theysay,describe the different moods of a woman. Different people have different views about the Taj. As a tomb,it has no match on the earth.

T:Thank you for your wonderful description and your beautiful pictures.The world is beautiful. Can you think of any other exciting places to visit?What are they?
Ss: Italy, France, Canada, Ireland, Beijing …
T: Good. Before traveling, we’d better know where to go and what to do. In that case, we can make our trip interesting and save a lot of money.
