Firstly, you will need a few basic ingredients and equipment to start the yogurtmaking process. The main ingredient is milk, which can be cow's milk, goat's milk, or any other type of milk you prefer. You will also need a small amount of storebought yogurt containing live active cultures to use as a starter for the fermentation process. Additionally, you will need a heavybottomed pot, a thermometer, a whisk, and glass jars for storing the finished yogurt.
The first step is to heat the milk in a pot over medium heat until it reaches about 180°F (82°C). Heating the milk helps to kill any harmful bacteria and denature the proteins, which is crucial for the thickening of the yogurt.
