第一节参考范文:
Dear Sir /Madam,
Learning from the school newspaper that the International Department will hold an activity titled "Teaching Foreign Students to Play Chinese Chess”, with great interest, I'm writing to apply to be a volunteer.
Being an outgoing student, I've been looking forward to making friends with foreigners and enhancing my social skill. After a careful consideration, I think I'm qualified for the job. For one thing, I'm good at spoken English, which plays an important role in teaching foreign students to play Chinese chess. For another, I have a good command of Chinese chess and I won the first place in the city chess contest.
If you could take my application into account and give me a chance to have a try, I'd be appreciative.
Yours,
Li Hua 第二节
Paragraph 1:
Oh my goodness! The bookstore! The very one Priscilla and I had so badly wanted to find on our very first day. We took lots of photos of it in amazement. Our delight must have been noticeable because one of the guys standing outside the store started telling me that it's the smallest bookstore in this city! Not until he led us inside the bookstore did we know that he was the owner of the bookstore. Inside this small store, we became so addicted to the books that we completely forgot we were tired and hungry.
Paragraph 2:
Soon, it was time for us to say goodbye. After waving the owner goodbye, Priscilla and I tore ourselves away from the bookstore. On our way back, I couldn't stop smiling. We had just visited the smallest bookstore in Lisbon, met the owner and taken a tour inside! I couldn't get over all the little things that had come together to lead us there. If we hadn't decided to visit the flea market at the last minute, if I hadn't insisted we turn right... That moment in Lisbon was a beautiful coincidence to me.

Text 1
W: How will I ever sleep tonight? Tomorrow’s exam is so important. I’m so worried about it, (1) but I can’t afford to be tired.
M: Don’t panic. Just calm down. You have worked hard, so you shouldn’t have any problems.
Text 2
W: These shoes are looking very untidy. Even when I clean them, they look bad.
I think I’ll buy some new ones this afternoon.
M: If I were you, I would wait until Saturday. The sales start then,so you might get them cheaper. (2)
Text 3
M: Where are the eggs?
W: We’ve run out. You could have toast for breakfast. We also have cheese. M: Oh no! You know how much I like my usual breakfast. (3)
Text 4
M: Jane, suppose you lost all your money while taking a vacation overseas —what would you do?
W: Well, I guess I’d sell my watch or computer or do some odd jobs until I could afford a return plane ticket. (4)
Text 5
W: It’s 3:10. My train doesn’t leave for 20 minutes. Do you want another coffee?
M: No time. My train is going in five minutes. (5) I’ll have to go. W: OK. See you later.
Text 6
M: This thing isn’t going to erupt, is it? (6)
W: No, don’t worry.
M: When you said we were going climbing, I thought you meant a hill or a snow mountain.
W: Relax. It hasn’t erupted for 100 years, although there was a bad earthquake five decades ago. (6) (7)
M: That kind of thing happens near volcanoes. (6)
W: We’ll be fine. I’ve been doing this climb for the past 10 years and nothing has happened.
M: The ground is getting warmer.
W: Yes, when we get to the top, we’ll be able to look inside and see the smoke rising. (6)
Text 7 (第8题为推断题)
W: OK, could the boy and the girl sit at the front? (10) You and your wife need to stand behind them and smile at each other.
M: Like this?
W: That’s lovely, and just one more. Turn your head slightly to the right, madam. Great.
M: I should really have had a haircut for something like this. (9)
W: Don’t worry, sir. You both look fine —and the kids. Did you say you have another child? (10)
M: Yes, John is away on a school trip. (10) Some teachers are taking a group to Scotland.
W: Oh, very nice. I’ve taken a lot of pictures for clients up there.
M: So you travel around, do you?
W: Yes, I do weddings and that sort of thing. People get married all over the place.
M: Do they invite you to the party?
W: Usually, yes. I had quite a lot of very nice meals.
Text 8
M: Hello. (11)
W: Good morning. How can I help you today, sir? (11)
M: It’s my computer. It suddenly went off. There’s something wrong with the connection. (11)
W: Have you tried turning it off and on again?
M: Yes, it’s not the device itself that’s faulty. It’s the Internet connection. That’s why I phoned you. (11)
W: I understand, sir, but we do have to ask. Sometimes people call us when they really need to repair their computer.
M: Mine is fine. It’s new. I need it for my work, so can you get this sorted out quickly?
W: We will try, sir. Do you use a lot of videos or creative content?
M: No, I’m an online teacher and I’m right in the middle of an important lesson.
I really need to get my connection back right away. (12)
W: Of course, sir. Could you tell me how many lights are showing on your Internet box? (13)
M: All of them.
W: And are they all green?
M: No. Four of them are green and one is red. (13)
W: Ah, the fault is with your telephone line.
Text 9
M: Hi, professor. I was hoping I could have a moment of your time if you’re not too busy. I’m having some problems getting started on my paper and hoping you could give me some advice on how to begin. (14)
W: Sure. Can you remind me what your topic is?
M: The general topic I chose is aesthetics(美学), but that’s as far as I’ve got. I don’t really know where to go from there.
W: Yeah, that’s much too large a topic. You really need to narrow it down in order to make it more accessible. (15) Otherwise, you’ll be writing a book.
M: Exactly. That’s what I wanted to ask you about. I was hoping it would be possible for me to change topics. I’m really more interested in nature than beauty. (16)
W: I’m afraid you have to stick to the assigned topic. (17) Still, since you’re interested in nature, then that certainly can be worked into your paper. (16) We’ve talked about Hume before in class, right?
M: Oh yeah, he’s the philosopher who wrote about where our ideas of beauty come from.
W: Exactly. I suggest you go to the library and get a copy of his biography. Start from there.
M: Great. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, professor.
W: If there’s anything else you need, please come to see me in my office at any time.
Text 10
Because of COVID-19, many new methods are being formed for social communication. However, there is one older method that is becoming popular again. It is called the drive-in movie theater, or more commonly, a drive-in. Drive-ins began around 1915, the first being in New Mexico. (18) The idea soon spread around the country. Six years later, Texas opened their first drive-in and New Jersey opened their first in 1933. (18) Drive-ins are a way to watch movies without being packed into a movie theater. (19) Drive-ins play a movie on a large screen, usually in a parking lot or an open space. Being able to sit in your own car and watch a movie can be a more pleasant experience for most people. (19) Unfortunately, most drive-ins failed in the past 20 years. Because more people moved into the cities, the suburban drive-in didn’t have a reliable customer base. (20) Cities don’t have open spaces big enough to operate these theaters either. Another reason is that the high oil prices also make people drive less. Before COVID-19, drive-ins consisted of only 1.5% of all movie screens in the USA,which is a huge drop from when they made up over 25% during their peak. Currently, drive-ins are making their return. Now with better technology, the movie picture will be much better than when drive-ins were at their most popular time. People feel safer about sitting in their own cars while watching, rather than sitting in a theater.。
