Lesson 17

1. Could we go scuba diving? 我们可以潜水吗？

scuba diving:潜水运动。

2. Could you tell us how long we're going to be away?你能告诉我们将去多长时间吗？

3. I'll write down how you can do it, and you can do it by yourself. 我把如何操作写下来，这样你就可以自己操作了。

by oneself：单独、独立。

eg. I'll try my best to finish all the work by myself.

我尽量单独完成所有的工作。

He traveled to Europe by himself last summer. 去年夏天他独自到欧洲旅游。

search：搜索、探求、调查。

eg. I searched everywhere for the book. 我到处找这本书。

They then searched the whole cave thoroughly but did not find anything.

Lesson 18

1. Hainan Island is the second largest island of China. 海南岛是中国的第二大岛。

the second largest:第二大的。

eg. This river is the third longest river in Asia. 这条河是亚洲第三长的河。

He works in the second highest building of the world.他在世界的第二高楼上工作。

2. Haikou, the capital of Hainan Province, is in the northeast of the island. 海南省的省会，海口，位于该岛的东北部。

northeast：东北northwest:西北southeast：东南southwest：西南

3. Have you found out what we can do on Hainan Island? 你有没查到我们在海南岛上可以玩些什么？

find out：找出, 发现, 查明(真相等)。

eg. Please find out when the ship sails for New York.请打听一下那艘船什么时候开往纽约。

We have found out what time the delegation will come.

我们已经查到了代表团什么时候来。

4. We can have a good time no matter if we go……无论我们是否去……，我们都会玩得开心的。

①have a good time = enjoy oneself玩的开心

eg. Did you have a good time at the party? 你们在晚会上玩得尽兴吗？

= Did you enjoy yourselves at the party?

②no matter：不论（后常接疑问词）。

eg. No matter what you said, I would keep my promise.

无论你说什么，我也要遵守诺言。

No matter how we asked him, he just spoke no word.

不管我们怎么问，他就是一言不发。

Lesson 19

1. Could you tell us how much it costs to fly to Hainan?

①句中的it一词用来指代" the ticket"（飞机票）。

②cost：花费

Eg. How much did that bag cost? 那个书包要多少钱？

The TV cost me $1500. 这台电视机花了我1500美元。

2. I'd like to book four tickets, please.我想订四张票。

book在此句话中用作动词，意思是“预定、登记”。

eg. You'll have to book a seat early. 你要早一点订座。

The hotel is fully booked up.旅馆房间已经全部被人预定了。

3. Would you want one-way or round-trip?你是想订单程票还是往返票？

one-way：单程round-trip：往返 a round-trip ticket = a return ticket：往返票

4. Four tickets on November 26th to Haikou and returning to Beijing on December 8th. 4张11月26日去海口，12月8日回北京的票。

5. These instructions use the 24 hour clock. 这些说明使用的是24小时制。

Lesson 20

1. I had a great time. 我过得很愉快。

也可以说：I had a very good/ nice time; I enjoyed myself very much.

2. Could you tell me what you think of Hainan Island? 你能说说你对海南的印象吗？在询问对方对某人或某事物的看法时，通常用到句型：What do you think of…? eg. What do you think of your new boss? 你认为你的新老板怎么样？

What do they think of the movie? 他们认为那部电影怎么样？

也可以说：What do you think about…?来询问看法。

3. … and we're also thinking about going there. 我们也正在考虑去那里。

该句中的think about是“（认真）考虑、思考”的意思。

eg. We are thinking about going fishing this weekend.我们正在考虑周末去钓鱼。She has been thinking about the plan for a long time. 她已经把这个计划考虑很久了。
