1 What do you think are the qualities of a good leader? In my opinion, a good leader should be trustworthy, persistent and forward-looking. The world is looking for honest and upright leaders, too.In order to leave this world a different place, a leader also has to persevere. Leaders don't grow in a comfort zone(温室). Leaders are not people with exceptional(例外的,特别的)talent; they are people who have learned from their mistakes and get up and try again, being a non-quitter(永不放弃的人). Being in leadership roles, a person should be able to see the big picture and take risks, doing things right and at the right time. Thus he can correctly assess a situation and knows how to take the next step.In summary, honesty, endurance, and having a big vision are the good qualities of / for effective leadership.2 Do you agree or disagree that peopleshould always tell the truth?I don‟t think it‟s a good idea for people to always speak the truth. Truth can enhance but sometimes can destroy a relationship, depending upon the intent. There are times when telling "truth" is unloving. For example, you might not be wild about what your friend is wearing, but if your friend is giving an important presentation and asks you how s/he looks, it would not be in anyone's highest good (有最大好处)to give your opinion. There are also times when many of us have much difficulty speaking our truth especially to important others such as parents, siblings, close friends, and beloved ones. We are afraid the other person will be angry or hurt by our truth, even when we state it without judgment or blame. Therefore, telling the truth is not always helpful. The important thing in telling the truth is to be honest with yourself about your ownintent in telling your truth3What new skill would you like to learn? Explain why this skill would be good for you to have.模板A I would like to learn how to play the guitar. Now I can‟t play a musical instrument (背景介绍),so this would be a new skill for me.
6-1Sample AnswerMany monkeys live in the top parts of forest trees and have no access to underground water but they are still able to survive. This is because they secure water supply from either food or rain. In the lecture, the first example shows h ow howler monkeys get water from their food. The majority of their diet is composed of tender leaves and they are able to absorb sufficient moisture from those leaves. The second example is how spider monkeys collect rainwater. Spider monkeys are able to use a cup-like plant as a container and link these cups to the trees in the forest. As the cups are filled with rainwater they drink directly from the cups. These examples tell us that monkeys have their own way of getting water and do not need to live close to water sources in order to survive.第一套6-2Sample AnswerIn this lecture the professor talks about social cooperation among a group of animals in fact increases the efficiency of feeding. There are two methods for cooperation: one is through feeding in groups and the other is through communication. In the first example, a group of deer are able to feed themselves more quickly because some of them can watch for predators while the others eat without distraction. In the second example, a honeybee communicates the location and distance of a food source to others by doing the waggle dance, As a result honey bees are able to feed themselves more efficiently by sharing information with others. Both examples illustrate the fact that social cooperation can sometimes benefit animals' feeding and animals don't always need to fight against each other for food第二套第一个Sample AnswerIn the lecture the professor talks about how some aquatic organisms are able to remain near their habitats without being carried away by rapid ocean currents. Two methods of doing so are attachment and sinking. The first example is the black fly larvae, which make silky pads with their mouths on the surface of rocks or vegetations and use an anchor-shaped hook on their stomach to attach themselves to the surface. That way they don't get blown away by strong water currents. The other example is the sculpins. They're different from most other fish because they don't have a swim bladder. Without a swim bladder, they can't float in the water and when fast currents hit, they sink in the water instead and don't move along with theocean currents. Sample AnswerCarbon dioxide is the byproduct of manufacturing. It can transmit sunlight but also prevent radiation from going back into space, which causes the greenhouse effect and increases temperature on Earth's surface. The professor mentions two methods to control carbon dioxide before it's released to the atmosphere, including carbon capture system and tree sequestration. One is by direct processing of carbon dioxide within the factory and depositing the captured carbon at a storage site. The other method is to plant sufficient trees outside of the factory because trees by nature are able to absorb carbon dioxide from the air into their leaves. It is more effective to capture carbon dioxide at the source point than from the air, which means the results of capturing carbon dioxide within the factory would be more remarkable.第三套Sample AnswerPaleodiet is the study of different types of food human beings used to eat in the past. As most people didn't keep a written record of what they ate so archeologists often use two methods to find out human's diet in the history, such as studying paintings from the past and fossils of food remains. The first example is that Romans painted fruits to show their wealth and hospitality and Egyptians drew their food on the walls of the pyramids. Another way archeologists use to study paleodiet is through food remains. They study the fossils of seeds and plants from archeological sites to understand how vegetables, fruits and grains played a role in human's diet in the eighteenth century.第四套Sample AnswerWildlife conservation is the practice to protect endangered animals, plants, and their habitats. As we enjoy hiking, we are also posing threats to species living on our hiking paths. The professor discussed two methods to protect the wildlife from being damaged by tourists' recreational nature walks. The first is to build hiking trails so that tourists can only wall along the trail and not all over the forests. This can prevent the wildlife from being disturbed. The second method is to limit the number of visitors per day and assign tour guides to small groups of tourists. T our guides will be able to lead the hikers onto a specific path and make sure no one is causing damages to the wildlife.第五套Sample AnswerCrop rotation is a common practice in agriculture to grow different crops in the same area every growing season. The professor in the lecture talks about two advantages that crop rotation brings, including restoring nutrients in the soil and pest control. First, the alternative crop is able to restore nutrients exhausted by the other crop in the soil so the land is capable of continuous production. For example, wheat consumes most nitrogen in the soil while beans restore nitrogen in the following season. The other benefit is to control insect pests. Wheat pests are only attracted to wheat and do not use beans as a food source. Therefore by growing beans in the following season the life cycle of wheat pests can be broken and the number of insect pests can be reduced.第六套Sample AnswerThe professor talks about two characteristics found in successful people's goal setting, including being specific and realistic about their goals. For example, if someone wants to buy a car within one year, he or she is more likely to accomplish the goal if they include specific information about the car in their goal, such as the model of the car and the price of the car. The other characteristic is being realistic about their goals. For instance, if someone sets a goal to read a hundred pages in a textbook within one night, that would be an unrealistic goal and of course the person won't be able to accomplish it. If the goal is to read a hundred pages within a week, the person is more likely to succeed in achieving this goal.第七套Sample AnswerIn the lecture the professor talks about some unusual parenting behaviors in mammals that can be mistaken as prevent getting attention from their predators, which in fact increases the babies' safety. The first example is how the mother deer hides her babies alone in the woods or meadows while they feed or sleep. The other example is the rabbits. Mother rabbits are able to produce highly nutritious milk so that their babies need to be fed only once per day and mother rabbits barely go back to their nests when parenting. Both examples are contra~ to humans' idea of parenting but they are actually crucial survival strategies for these animals.第八套Sample AnswerThe marine biology professor talks about two methods of how marine mammals keep themselves warm in water, such as developing certain physical features and behavioral adaptations. Marine mammals are warm-blooded and water makes them lose heat more easily than in the air. This makes maintaining their body temperature while in water a challenge for them. First they have developed some physical features to keep themselves warm, including a thick layer of blubber and fur skin. Seals, for example, possess both layers of fat and furry skin in order to insulate their bodies from external coldness. Marine mammals also conserve body heat through behavioral adaptation. Marine mammals consume a lot of food because digestion is able to create heat for them. Sea otters are one example.第九套Sample AnswerIn the lecture, the professor talks about how lobsters have developed physically to adapt to the dark water environment such as compound eyes and antennae that produce low frequency vibration. First, within their compound eyes, there can be as many as ten thousand lenses that can be used to detect motion in the water and capture dim lights under the sea. This helps them spot their predators in the dark water. The other organ they have developed is their antennae. They antennae are able to produce a low frequency vibration like a buzzing sound to escape danger or to warn others of danger. For example, if a predator is trying to eat the lobster, the buzzing sound will either scare the fish away or signal other lobsters to move to safer places.第十套Sample AnswerIn this lecture the professor talks about how forest fires are in fact able to help animals survive rather than destroy them such as exposing prey animals and burning; away toxins, First, forest fires can expose some prey animals in open areas so their predators can spot them more easily. For example, during forest fires, turkeys usually wait on the edge of the forest to capture worms that are trying to escape from the fires. The other way that forest fires benefit animals is by making the environment more habitable. For example, beetles usually can't live in XYZ trees because those trees contain poison in their bark. However, after the fires burn away the bark beetles can lay eggs in these trees and nurse their larvae there. Sample AnswerIn the lecture, the professor talks about what predatory animals do to prey on animals traveling in groups such as identifying unique members of the groups or breaking up the groups. Animals travel in groups in order to scare their predators and make it difficult for the predators to locate the individuals. However, scientists found fish of different colors from those of other members in the ABC fish community are more likely to be preyed on because their predators can identify the unique individuals. Other predators would break up the groups in which animals are traveling to make it easier to locate individuals. For instance, sharks would swim into fish crowds and wave its tail quickly to break the crowds into smaller groups or even individuals so the sharks can locate the fish more easily. Sample AnswerIn the lecture the professor talks about two physical features cheetahs have developed to adapt to living in adverse environments such as their feet pads and muscular long legs. First, cheetahs have grown pads underneath their feet to protect themselves from the high temperature in deserts or rough surfaces of other places they live. This allows them to travel at a high speed without being slowed down by geographic factors. The other feature is cheetahs' muscular long legs. Cheetahs' back legs are capable of providing cheetahs with a powerful force that sends their body forward as they travel. In addition, as their legs are particularly long, they are able to travel a long distance within a short amount of time. For these adaptive features, cheetahs can thrive and sprint in different unfavorable environments.。

Prompt: Why do people travel? Develop your opinion using examples and reasons.Sample Response:[State your opinion] Personally, I like travelling because it is a learning experience.[Supporting Details] For example, last year I went to Manhattan. I visited many famous places like the Met and Radio City Music Hall. The most interesting place was Ground Zero. Ground Zero is where the World Trade Center once stood. Now, its nothing but a big hole. On TV it doesnt look so big. But seeing it in person, I had no idea it was so huge. Its like a big hole in the heart of the city. Looking at it made me realize that sometimes you just have to see things with your own eyes. That way you can understand what really happened.[Conclusion] For those reasons, travelling to Manhattan was definitely a great learning experience for me.Task

Which one do you think is better and why? Sample Answer:I would prefer spending money on electronics, like computers, headphones and mobile phones. The reason is kind of simple as follow.Firstly, I have to say that I am a geek. These newly coming electronic devices have always fascinated me a lot. For the new iPhone7, I was longing for it since the start of the rumors. Speaking of headphones, I bought 3 sets of headphone varies in brand and features. One of my favorites is the Bose AE2W model. It comparatively light to beats studio wireless and with dark color. The benefits of its light weighted feature are that I would not feel uncomfortable when I am running for a long time or workout in a gym. As what I said above, Electronics are really something that I would spend money on. Well, personally, I prefer to buy experience, like taking a vacation instead of buying tangible stuff like computer or cell phone. Actually, experiences bring people more happiness than possessions. Think about it, when waiting for a delicious meal at a nice restaurant or looking forward to a vacation, or waiting to get concert tickets, people arepositive and they are expecting nice things to happen, and your happiness lasts for a long time. You know, in retrospection, at least, you have something memorable to reflect on. However, when waiting for, say, your pre-ordered iPhone to arrive and once the phone arrives, your positive mind might not last a long time.3托福口语学习技巧凡是考试都是有针对性的,既然是备考托福口语,那就要针对托福口语做一些有针对性的学习。
典型的提示句就是“T oday I’d like to talk about ……”
In the lecture, the professor introduces two types of...First, ...which means..., the example is...Second, ...which means..., the example is... In the lecture, the professor introduces the theory of...He / She uses an experiment to explain the theory. In the first group, ...In the second group, ...
Sample AnswerThe term "response effort" describes a behavioral pattern that the more effort a person needs to put into an activity, the less likely they will engage in that activity in the future and vice versa. The professor gives an example of how kindergarten children were unwilling to put away their crayons after the drawing class. Because the container was too small for the kids to put in their crayons, the effort required to complete this task was too high for the kids. After replacing the container with a much bigger one all the kids were able to complete what the teacher asked them to do. The professor's example shows that by reducing the barriers a child needs to go through in order to complete a task, a teacher or parent is in fact able to motivate the child to do things or make habits that are important in life. Sample Answer"Planning fallacy" is a term in psychology that describes a tendency in people to underestimate the time required to complete a task due to their optimism, even if they have prior experience of similar tasks. The professor in the lecture used his personal example in college to show how he fell into this "planning fallacy". He considered himself a fast writer and didn't begin working on his paper until the day before deadline, even though his professor assigned the paper two months in advance. As a result, he couldn't gather enough resources for his paper in time and the library was closed late at night. He had to ask his professor to grant him an extension for this assignment, which affected his final grade. In sum, the professor failed to account for all the potential problems when planning for his paper and assumed everything would go as smoothly as he imagined. Sample Answer"Diversion" is a technique in psychology to use a different source of distraction to shift the audience's attention away from the original object of attention. It is often used in media or by politicians for political lobbying and propaganda. The professor used an example he came across on TV to show how a city governor at a debate used this diversion technique to make his point. Governor B was in favor of building a park in the city so throughout the debate he only talked about the benefits of constructing this park while making no mention of the real subject that concerned all policy makers and audience, that is, the taxpayers' money. By using this technique Governor B could persuade his audience that building the park inthe city was necessary and make them ignore the financial problems.第三套Sample AnswerDeimatic posture describes the phenomenon that some animals would display frightening changes in their appearance or behavior to scare away their predators. The professor uses the example of springbok to show how their special jumps can bluff their predators away and create an opportunity for them to escape from a dangerous situation. Springbok usually do their special jumps when they are scared. When springbok pronk, they can jump as high as three point five meters. It is meant to signal their predators m go after other weaker animals. Also when springbok jump, they release a special hormone so that their predators can chase after the smell. This gibes springbok a chance to run away from their predators.第四套Sample AnswerInformation bias is a biased evaluation of information. People need information to make a decision but some people would overvalue the need for information and become very hesitant in taking an action. As a result, by the time they are ready to make a decision based on sufficient information they require, their decision is no longer needed. The professor talks about his personal experience years ago to show how his decision was also affected by this information bias. He came across a highly qualified candidate for a research assistant position but he continued to interview other candidates. By the time he decided the first candidate was the most qualified for the position it was already too into because the candidate took another job offer.第五套Sample AnswerOutcome dependency describes a tendency in human behavior to favor people who have the potential to help us succeed in our goal so that we can have more confidence in achieving our goal. The professor in the lecture talks about an experiment to show how outcome dependency works on us. They showed a video of a salesperson to two different groups at an orifice equipment supply company. The first group was formed by employees from the operations department and the second one was by salespeople at the company. As a result, people in the first group felt indifferent to the man in the video while people in the second group find the person in the video likeable and very qualified. The example shows that thesales team prefers the salesperson in the video because he might help the team achieve their goal.第六套Sample AnswerPlants have the ability to react to an external attack such as producing chemicals in order to protect themselves. When a plant is stimulated by an external stress repeatedly, the time required for the plant to react would greatly reduce and it is called the "priming ability". This is necessary to increase the plants' chance of survival. The professor uses an example of tobacco leaves and caterpillars to show how the tobacco leaves' priming ability helps them survive. When the tobacco leaves are first eaten by caterpillars, it takes them several hours to produce a special chemical that attracts caterpillars' predators. However, the second time when the tobacco leaves are eaten by caterpillars, it takes them much less time to produce this chemical. The caterpillars are preyed by the big-eyed bugs very quickly and have little time to eat many tobacco leaves.第七套Sample Answer"Availability error" is a term to describe that people tend to make their judgments based on their experience under a similar situation rather than objective information presented to them. It is especially so if a negative event has caused great impression on someone. The professor used his personal example in the lecture to show how the "availability error" played a role in his wife's decision making. He and his wife went to an island for a trip but unfortunately the island was hit by a storm and they had to spend their time there in rain. In the years followed the professor would like to revisit the island but his wife kept believing that the rainstorm would hit the island again if they went back there, even when the professor showed her weather data indicating otherwise.第八套Sample AnswerA captive market is where the supply of a certain item is very limited and consumers have no choice but to pay high prices for the item or make no purchases at all. The professor uses an example of a cafeteria at an airport to support the existence of a captive market. While the professor was waiting at the airport, he felt hung~ and wanted to buy food. However there was only one cafeteria at the airport and it had nothing but sandwiches on their food menu at high prices.Although the variety of food was limited and the prices were high, there was still a long line at the cafeteria because consumers had no other choices. As a result of a captive market, consumers had to pay more for sandwiches at the airport.第九套v1Sample AnswerReverse psychology is a technique to advocate against what one really wants in order to achieve the desired result. This works because most people have negative emotions to being persuaded so they choose to side with what's being advocated against. The professor uses an example of a newspaper commentary to illustrate the use of reverse psychology. A newspaper editor felt reluctant about his city government's decision to demolish a historical building so he published a commentary in the paper. He wrote a lot about how demolishing this building was a great idea and how it would benefit the city. As a result, most readers started to see the historical sentiments of this building and felt unwilling to let the building be demolished.第九套v2Sample AnswerReverse psychology is a technique to advocate against what one really wants in order to achieve the desired result. This is because most people have negative emotions to being persuaded so they choose to side with what's being advocated against. The professor uses his personal example of buying a house to illustrate the effect of reverse psychology. He was buying a house that he really liked but full of problems. All his friends and family were trying to persuade him not to buy the house but he still bought the house anyway. As a result, it did cost him a lot of money to fix all the problems in the house. He realized that he hated to be persuaded even though what others were advocating made sense.第十套Sample AnswerScope creep in project management is a term to describe that in a process of a business transaction, the scope of work and services often go beyond the original agreement due to unclear understandings between the two parties. The professor uses an example of a construction project to show how scope creep can make a project unpleasant or unprofitable. The professor's friend at a construction company was building a fence around a woman's yard. The client assumed building the fence included painting of the fence but the professor's friend did not see thatin their initial verbal agreement. As a result, the professor's friend had to paint the fence for his client at no extra charge and the transaction made him very unhappy. Sample AnswerIn the lecture the professor discusses the establishment of a joint venture. Usually when a company would like to develop a new product to increase its revenue yet lacks the skills to do so; it would partner with another company that has the required skills and establish a joint venture. The professor uses an example of a joint venture formed by a television network company and a technology group. The TV network company would like to publish online news but lacked the computer expertise to do so. Therefore it partnered with a technology group that had the skills of webpage design and computer engineering to form a joint venture. It turned out its online news became popular and earned a lot of profits from advertising. In the end both companies shared the profits and enjoyed the benefits from the joint第十二套Sample AnswerThe term "diffusion effects" refers to a phenomenon in medical research that if members of the experimental group share information related to the experiment with members of the control group, the results of the experiment would become useless and the experiment objectives would be defeated. The professor in the lecture uses an example of a medical experiment in an office environment to reduce employees' tiredness at work. At some point of the experiment, members of the experimental group told members of the control group that they were doing some stretching exercise at work and how the exercise was benefiting them. As a result, people in the control group started to engage in this stretching exercise at work and the results of the experiment became unreliable. Therefore it is crucial to manage diffusion effects to ensure the success of an experiment.。

6-1Sample AnswerMany monkeys live in the top parts of forest trees and have no access to underground water but they are still able tosurvive. This is because they secure water supply from either food or rain. In the lecture, the first example shows howhowler monkeys get water from their food. The majority of their diet is composed of tender leaves and they are able toabsorb sufficient moisture from those leaves. The second example is how spider monkeys collect rainwater. Spidermonkeys are able to use a cup-like plant as a container and link these cups to the trees in the forest. As the cups arefilled with rainwater they drink directly from the cups. These examples tell us that monkeys have their own way ofgetting water and do not need to live close to water sources in order to survive.第一套6-2Sample AnswerIn this lecture the professor talks about social cooperation among a group of animals in fact increases the efficiency offeeding. There are two methods for cooperation: one is through feeding in groups and the other is throughcommunication. In the first example, a group of deer are able to feed themselves more quickly because some of themcan watch for predators while the others eat without distraction. In the second example, a honeybee communicates thelocation and distance of a food source to others by doing the waggle dance, As a result honey bees are able to feedthemselves more efficiently by sharing information with others. Both examples illustrate the fact that socialcooperation can sometimes benefit animals' feeding and animals don't always need to fight against each other for food第二套第一个Sample AnswerIn the lecture the professor talks about how some aquatic organisms are able to remain near their habitats without beingcarried away by rapid ocean currents. Two methods of doing so are attachment and sinking. The first example is theblack fly larvae, which make silky pads with their mouths on the surface of rocks or vegetations and use ananchor-shaped hook on their stomach to attach themselves to the surface. That way they don't get blown away bystrong water currents. The other example is the sculpins. They're different from most other fish because they don'thave a swim bladder. Without a swim bladder, they can't float in the water and when fast currents hit, they sink in thewater instead and don't move along with the ocean currents. Sample AnswerCarbon dioxide is the byproduct of manufacturing. It can transmit sunlight but also prevent radiation from going backinto space, which causes the greenhouse effect and increases temperature on Earth's surface. The professor mentionstwo methods to control carbon dioxide before it's released to the atmosphere, including carbon capture system and treesequestration. One is by direct processing of carbon dioxide within the factory and depositing the captured carbon at astorage site. The other method is to plant sufficient trees outside of the factory because trees by nature are able toabsorb carbon dioxide from the air into their leaves. It is more effective to capture carbon dioxide at the source pointthan from the air, which means the results of capturing carbon dioxide within the factory would be more remarkable.第三套Sample AnswerPaleodiet is the study of different types of food human beings used to eat in the past. As most people didn't keep awritten record of what they ate so archeologists often use two methods to find out human's diet in the history, such asstudying paintings from the past and fossils of food remains. The first example is that Romans painted fruits to showtheir wealth and hospitality and Egyptians drew their food on the walls of the pyramids. Another way archeologists useto study paleodiet is through food remains. They study the fossils of seeds and plants from archeological sites tounderstand how vegetables, fruits and grains played a role in human's diet in the eighteenth century.第四套Sample AnswerWildlife conservation is the practice to protect endangered animals, plants, and their habitats. As we enjoy hiking, weare also posing threats to species living on our hiking paths. The professor discussed two methods to protect thewildlife from being damaged by tourists' recreational nature walks. The first is to build hiking trails so that tourists canonly wall along the trail and not all over the forests. This can prevent the wildlife from being disturbed. The secondmethod is to limit the number of visitors per day and assign tour guides to small groups of tourists. Tour guides will beable to lead the hikers onto a specific path and make sure no one is causing damages to the wildlife.第五套Sample AnswerCrop rotation is a common practice in agriculture to grow different crops in the same area every growing season. Theprofessor in the lecture talks about two advantages that crop rotation brings, including restoring nutrients in the soilandpest control. First, the alternative crop is able to restore nutrients exhausted by the other crop in the soil so the landis capable of continuous production. For example, wheat consumes most nitrogen in the soil while beans restorenitrogen in the following season. The other benefit is to control insect pests. Wheat pests are only attracted to wheatand do not use beans as a food source. Therefore by growing beans in the following season the life cycle of wheat pestscan be broken and the number of insect pests can be reduced.第六套Sample AnswerThe professor talks about two characteristics found in successful people's goal setting, including being specific andrealistic about their goals. For example, if someone wants to buy a car within one year, he or she is more likely toaccomplish the goal if they include specific information about the car in their goal, such as the model of the car and theprice of the car. The other characteristic is being realistic about their goals. For instance, if someone sets a goal to reada hundred pages in a textbook within one night, that would be an unrealistic goal and of course the person won't beable to accomplish it. Ifthe goal is to read a hundred pages within a week, the person is more likely to succeed inachieving this goal.第七套Sample AnswerIn the lecture the professor talks about some unusual parenting behaviors in mammals that can be mistaken asprevent getting attention from their predators, which in fact increases the babies' safety. The first example is how themother deer hides her babies alone in the woods or meadows while they feed or sleep. The other example is the rabbits. Mother rabbits are able to produce highly nutritious milk so that their babies need to be fed only once per day andmother rabbits barely go back to their nests when parenting. Both examples are contra~ to humans' idea of parentingbut they are actually crucial survival strategies for these animals.第八套Sample AnswerThe marine biology professor talks about two methods of how marine mammals keep themselves warm in water, suchas developing certain physical features and behavioral adaptations. Marine mammals are warm-blooded and watermakes them lose heat more easily than in the air. This makes maintaining their body temperature while in water achallenge for them. First they have developed some physical features to keep themselves warm, including a thick layerof blubber and fur skin. Seals, for example, possess both layers of fat and furry skin in order to insulate their bodiesfrom external coldness. Marine mammals also conserve body heat throughbehavioral adaptation. Marine mammalsconsume a lot of food because digestion is able to create heat for them. Sea otters are one example.第九套Sample AnswerIn the lecture, the professor talks about how lobsters have developed physically to adapt to the dark water environmentsuch as compound eyes and antennae that produce low frequency vibration. First, within their compound eyes, therecan be as many as ten thousand lenses that can be used to detect motion in the water and capture dim lights under thesea. This helps them spot their predators in the dark water. The other organ they have developed is their antennae. Theyantennae are able to produce a low frequency vibration like a buzzing sound to escape danger or to warn others ofdanger. For example, if a predator is trying to eat the lobster, the buzzing sound will either scare the fish away or signalother lobsters to move to safer places.第十套Sample AnswerIn this lecture the professor talks about how forest fires are in fact able to help animals survive rather than destroythem such as exposing prey animals and burning; away toxins, First, forest fires can expose some prey animals in openareas so their predators can spot them more easily. For example, during forest fires, turkeys usually wait on the edge ofthe forest to capture worms that are trying to escape from the fires. The other way that forest fires benefit animals is bymaking the environment more habitable. For example, beetles usually can't live in XYZ trees because those treescontain poison in their bark. However, after the fires burn away the bark beetles can lay eggs in these trees and nurse their larvae there. Sample AnswerIn the lecture, the professor talks about what predatory animals do to prey on animals traveling in groups such asidentifying unique members of the groups or breaking up the groups. Animals travel in groups in order to scare theirpredators and make it difficult for the predators to locate the individuals. However, scientists found fish of differentcolors from those of other members in the ABC fish community are more likely to be preyed on because theirpredators can identify the unique individuals. Other predators would break up the groups in which animals aretraveling to make it easier to locate individuals. For instance, sharks would swim into fish crowds and wave its tailquickly to break the crowds into smaller groups or even individuals so the sharks can locate the fish more easily. Sample AnswerIn the lecture the professor talks about two physical features cheetahs have developed to adapt to living in adverseenvironments such as their feet pads and muscular long legs. First, cheetahs have grown pads underneath their feet toprotect themselves from the high temperature in deserts or rough surfaces of other places they live. This allows them totravel at a high speed without being slowed down by geographic factors. The other feature is cheetahs' muscular longlegs. Cheetahs' back legs are capable of providing cheetahs with a powerful force that sends their body forward as theytravel. In addition, as their legs are particularly long, they are able to travel a long distance within a short amount oftime. For these adaptive features, cheetahs can thrive and sprint in different unfavorable environments.。
