AWith technology reducing distance every day, many moms now preferannouncing the birth of their child through social media channels likeFacebook.Though that isn’t entirely wrong, etiquette (礼节) expectsotherwise.Paper announcements are still the way to go.Most stationery (文具;办公用品) shops have ready-made announcements that require you to only fillout the details of your child. If you know the gender of your baby, selecting the right color combination is easier. However, you can keep that for later or go for a neutral (中立的) color such as yellow. The wording for a birth announcement is very simple.Start the announcement with a meaningful phrase or quote as introduction.Follow it up by announcing the birth of your child,his/her full name, birth date, birth time, height, weight, and place of birth.End the announcement by writing names of the parents. You have six months to send the announcements.Though most people stick to the “earlier the better” rule,we suggest somewhere around the end of the second month. With roughly 8 weeks behind you, you’re more at ease by then. Also, you have more time to understand the baby’s nature, which does play a part in designing the announcement at times.Around this time, you can get better photographs of the baby as well.Send the announcement to as many people as you want such as relatives, colleagues, friends, and even a few acquaintances;don’t hold back. It’s better to send it to more people than sending it out to a few,and missing out on someone.Get the maili ng list in order so that you don’t waste time making it later.【语篇解读】婴儿诞生,作为父母,最好的礼节是书面形式正式地通告各位亲友、同仁和熟人。

I enjoyed staying with my grandparents when I was young child.1 People knew everyone, their kids, their pets and their ancestors. The relationship with them continued to grow as I grew and got older.2 She would make little sandwiches and we’d have tea parties. She’s plant flowers and carefully tend them. I remember the small thimble she would use while doing her needlework. Placing her thimble on her finger she’s remark: “I wouldn’t want to sew without one.”A few years ago when my grandmother passed away, I bade farewell to a loving grandmother.3 We had just had tea together a couple of moths earlier, on her 91st birthday. I missed her very much, but I noticed it particularly on my birthday, as there was no card from my grandmother. It was crowded with customers. 1 Nowadays, high streets are declining, with very few shops and shoppers. With about 14 shops down every day, Britain’s high streets are dying little by little.2 It’s fairly easy to understand. To start with, people are spending less because of the economic recessi on(衰退). When all of the research has been completed and all of the sentences are structured well, but the paper still lacks some pizzazz(活力),it can be boring to grade. If you are searching for ways to help your students find their voices, why not try making students themselves the topic of the writing? 1Who are you?One of the most difficult questions for students to answer is: “Who are you?” 2 In doing this, through writing, students will start to see their personalities differently and, hopefully, be able to add a feature to their writing.Dear John3Encourage them to write to a famous person they’ve always admired, and then the one they absolutely hate. Explore how their language changes between the two letters. When students know their audiences, it is much easier for them to add the kind of personality their audience wants to see.4When students write about what matters most to them, they will often give you the best writing you’ve ever seen. You’ll get those when you ask questions that hit home. When students have something to say about a given topic, it can be easier for them to get their ideas down and then work on their writing style.Get the words on paper, and then edit themThe most valuable lesson students can learn is to write first, and edit later. Have students written for five minutes about their topics. If they can get their ideas down on paper, that’s 90% of the battle. 5 This can help them realize that, once they have the ideas down, the rest is just fine tuning(微调). Once they have this skill mastered, it’s easy for them to start adding their own personal voices to their papers.A.What matters to you?B. What style is taught in class?C. When they write about themselves, students’ voices often shine through.D. Writing letters is a great way for students to explore their writing style.E. Once we become adults, with the capacity to reason for ourselves, we are facing so many pressures of daily survival that we rarely find time and energy to focus on life’s larger issues. And when we do, our emotions and subjectivity limit our vision and our movement.2 When we are occupied with our self-interest —— petty or great, a leader sends out a wake-up call, alerting us to seek the true priorities in life. With so many people trying to be leaders there days, how do we recognize a true leader ? To answer this question, we must step back and ask : 3A true leader wants nothing more than to make people stand on their own, as leaders in their own right. Instead of trying to blind us with his or her brilliance, a true leader reflects our own light back to us, so that we can see ourselves anew. The differences between a leader and a boss : A boss drives their employees, and a leader coaches them. A boss inspires fear, and a leader generates enthusiasm. A boss says “I”, and a leader says “We”. A boss places blame for breakdowns, and a leader fixes them. 4Decide now. Decide today. Understanding wha t drives perfectionism is the first step toward releasing this self-created anchor that keeps us stuck.Shame and fear are often the hidden drivers of perfectionism. We believe that if we can fashion a perfectly polished personality, flash our intelligence, and perfect our humour, then no one can hurt us with criticism and we’ll win respect and approval.2 Politicians who display a desperate need to be right and refuse to acknowledge mistakes or uncertainty are often driven by a secret shame. They fear that showing vulnerability(弱点) will expose them to the accusation that they’re weak. They stick to a desire to be right, perfect, and polished, even when it’s obvious that the emperor has no clothes.Perfectionism keeps us leaning toward the future. We’re constantly evaluating ourselves in order to do better. 3 However,if we can’t relax and enjoy lighter moments, then we become prisoners of our perfectionism. We get painfully self-conscious and take ourselves too seriously.Sadly,we deprive(剥夺) ourselves of the simple pleasure of enjoying the moment and being ourselves.4 We realize that failing at any enterprise doesn’t mean that we are a failure.Without failures,we’ll never learn from our mistakes;we’ll never move forward in our lives. Those who succeed have made countless mistakes. The important thing is to learn from our error, forgive ourselves and move on.Being human, perfection is impossible. 5 Releasing ourselves from the desire to protect our image,we’re freed to sail gracefully through our successes and f ailures—and enjoy our precious life.A.Do you hold an idealized vision that is impossible to realize?B.A cure to perfectionism is to make room for our human shortcomings.C.Do you fear that others will be horrified by what you judge about yourself?D.The addiction to staying perfect protects us from any sign of being imperfect.E.There’s nothing wrong with wanting to do our best and self-correcting along the way.F.People who are addicted to perfection are often isolated, even if they seem outgoing and popular.G.By accepting ourselves as we are and doing our best,we begin to rid the shame that drives perfectionism.【答案】 1.A 2.D 3.E 4.B 5.G【解析】这是一篇说明文。

2022届高考英语一轮复习阅读之七选五模拟训练
2022高考英语阅读之七选五模拟训练(A)It’s not easy to know how to help our animals, considering they can’t talk--and don’t always listen. 36When looking for a new pet, where do you start?Buying pets online is risky because you have no idea about their upbringing or health. Consider adopting from a shelter, as you will be helping pets in need. If you go to a breeder(饲养员), aim to see any animal in person and in the place where they were born, better with their mothers. 37How can you be sure the pet you pick will be the right fit?You need to spend plenty of time with your pet or he may become lonely or bored and develop problem behaviors such as chewing and barking. 38 Some humans want an energetic dog to take jogging, while others want a lapdog to watch TV with. Take the time to find the right animal for your lifestyle. How can you get him to do what you need him to?39 So it is necessary to invest time and communicate with him. Contrary to popular belief, you can teach an old dog new tricks, so if you have an older guy, it’s still worth the effort. But the earlier you start, the more likely you are to achieve results.40Elderly dogs are less able to cope with extreme temperatures. Keep them cool on hot days and away from drafts on cold ones. Place pieces of carpet or bedding whereyour dog rests to help him rise from slippery floors. Make sure to check claws, which may not wear down sufficiently with reduced activity.A. Energy level is also important.B. A dog’s intelligence can be increased through education and training.C. Here we share how to choose pets and keep them happy and healthy.D. How can you help your pets live better as they age?E. Be prepared to wait and possibly travel to find the perfect companion.F.Therefore, it’s important for us to choose a pet full of love and energy.G. So is it possible for us to get along well with our pets?(B)When I was teaching, we talked a lot about high vs. low-stakes ( 风险) writing. Recently, I’ve been thinking about friendships the same way —high and low-stakes friendships. Since the stakes might be different for men and women, I will limit this discussion to women’s friendships with men and women. 36 Friendships are high stakes when they are intimate ( 亲密的). 37 We also depend on the otherperson for support in difficult times; advice in times of conflict; and sympathy in times of regret. We feel “known” by them. The loss of a high-stakes friend is painful; it has a noticeable impact on our lives.Low-stakes friendships, on the other hand, are more casual and limited emotionally. We may play bridge or tennis together; go out for dinner with our partners.38 We don’t share any feelings or experiences t hat would make us feelemotionally fragile and we do not talk about feelings toward each other. The loss of a low-stakes friend may be regrettable, but it does not leave any mark in our lives.According to Professor Harry Stack Sullivan, the first high-stakes friendship is typically formed in pre-adolescence with a friend of the same sex, a “chum” ( 密友). Chumship is a relationship in which the other person’s interest and security become as important as one’s own.39 The preadolescent who successfully enters a chumship finds someone with whom she can share her innermost thoughts and feelings. To her chum, she can reveal what she feels to be the most terrible things about herself in an atmosphere of acceptance. In addition, they fail to distinguish between sidelinecheerleaders and competitive ones. Sideline cheerleaders' main goal is to entertain the crowd and lead them with team cheers, which should not be considered a sport.16 A sport, according to the Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors, is a physical activity or competition against an opponent, governed by rules and conditions, and the primary purpose of competition is a comparison of the relative skills of the participants.17 .Competitive cheerleading includes lots of physical activities. The “fliers" are thrown in the air, held by "bases" in different positions that require strength and cooperation with other teammates. And just as basketball and football have guidelines for competitive play, so does competitive cheerleading. 18 And the cheerleaders are required to stay within a certain area.19 Just like gymnasts, competitive cheerleaders are awarded points for difficulty, technique, and sharpness. The more difficult a mount, the sharper the motions, the better the score. Cheerleading is a team sport, so without cooperation, the first place is out of reach. So me people argue cheerleaders are just “girls in skirts" with their only job to entertain the crowd. 20 Cheerleaders today compete against other teams and work as hard as other athletes. Cheerleading even appear in the Olympics since cheerleaders are just as athletic and physically fit as those involved in the more accepted sports.A. Cheerleaders must learn to perform in public.B. Yet the mass destruction of trees--deforestation-continues, sacrificing (牺牲)the long-term benefits of standing trees for short-term gain.16 Since humans started cutting down forests, 46 percent of trees have been logged. About 17 percent of the Amazonian rainforest has been destroyed over the past 50 years, and losses recently have been on the rise. So, what are the factors leading to deforestation? Farming, animal raising, mining, and drilling combined account for more than half of all deforestation. 17 Plus logging operations, which provide the world? s wood and paper products, cut down countless trees each year. Some loggers acting illegally even build roads to access more and more remote forests--which leads to further deforestation.18 Some 250 million people living in forests depend on them for survival and income—many of them among the world's rural poor. Eighty percent of Earth's land animals live in forests and deforestation threatens many species. 19 The SouthAmerican rainforest, for example, influences regional and perhaps even global water cycles, which is key to the water supply in Brazilian cities and neighboring countries.Luckily, a movement is under way to preserve existing forest ecosystems and restore lost tree cover. Organizations and activists are working to fight illegal mining and logging. As consumers, it makes sense to look for sustainably produced sources.20 .A. Yet the effects of deforestation reach much farther.B. Globally, forests are disappearing at an alarming rate.C. Wildfires and urbanization also account for a small part,D. Deforestation affects people and animals and even the wider world.E. With these joint efforts, many conservationists see reasons for hope.F. Leave the shower door or curtain open when not in use to allow for airflow. 17 If you have dirty rags or dish cloths, hang them to drybetween laundry loads.18You know how you move your face around in a mirror, using different angles to get a clear look? The same logic applies to cleaning. Use a flashing to shine on surfaces, floors, and corners in order to spot dust and dirt you might have missed.Put tools everywhereA subtle yet effective trick: If there are cleaning brushes, rags, and solutions in every room or at least on every floor of the house, you’ll tend to jump into a job when it needs to be done. 19Never skip these two tasksIf y ou make your bed every morning, you’ll start the day with a small sense of accomplishment and end it with a sense of satisfaction. 20 Melissa Maker, owner of Toronto-based company Clean My Space, descr ibes it as “the bed of the kitchen”.A. Happiness, sadness, disgust, fear and surprise can be communicated through facial expressions alone. 16Fortunately, you can regain some control over communication by working with what you have left―the eyes. If you want to increase understanding with a masked individual, you should look them in the eyes. 17 Eye contact consumes extra brain power and becomes uncomfortable after only three seconds. But bear in mind, eye contact can also make you appear more intelligent and trustworthy. You might be surprised how much information is conveyed by the body itself. For instance, when someone is happy, they lift their head; when they are sad, they drop their head. Learning how people use their bodies to convey emotion may help reduce the uncertainty you feel when communicating with someone in a mask. 18 When engaged in a conversation, you can appear more attentive by turning your body toward the individual, leaning in or nodding. To let another person know you want to start speaking, straighten your posture, or nod more frequently.Don’t forget the impact of your voice. 19 Along with the actual words, you also use volume, tone and pauses to convey your message. For instance, a whisper may indicate sadness or insecurity, whereas a higher-pitched shout could show anger or intensity.20 As long as you adopted proper manners, good communication still can be achieved though faces are partially covered.A. It may be easier said than done.B. It’s not just what you say, but it’s how you say it.C. Become aware of your own body language, too.D. Social distance doesn’t have to mean socially distant.E. Raising your voice can alter the message you are trying to send.F. But when part of the face is masked, it becomes tougher to recognize them.G. You can use your body and voice to convey the emotions your mask might hide.(G)Including children in the farming lifestyle has many benefits.Sure,it is nice to have the additional help with chores(家庭杂务),but it also fosters so much growth, sending our kids down a good path towards who they will someday become. It is possible that our children will grow up to lead lives that do not include farming. 1Through caring for farm animals, kids learn that in life others often come before self.2It doesn’t matter if we don’t feel like it o r if we are sick and tired. What matters is that we take care of the animals that take care of us and do so in a timely manner.3If the work on a farm does not get done, the operation fails. It takes discipline and commitment to get down to business every day,and seeing this in action will give kids a good work attitude. They will know and understand that nothing good comes easy and that they have to work to survive.4Functioning as part of aproductive team will surely be playing a crucial role sooner or later in all walks of life.Additionally, farming teaches patience.5Cattle will be difficult to control.Horses will run away when you try to catch them.Goats will kick over that bucket of hard-earned milk.A rooster will decide you got too close to his hens and give you a run for your money. In spite of all that, kids will learn to be patient and take things easy. There may not be any instant reward, but in the long term kids will see the benefit of all their efforts during those hard days.A.At the same time, they learn to work with others.B.Farm life also teaches kids the value of hard work.C.Children learn to be grateful to animals for eating purpose.D.Teamwork is no longer an important skill to develop and use.E.There are going to be a lot of days when things do not go your way.F.However,what they learn on a farm can also be instrumental in their future lives.G.Animals need to be fed, watered, and cared for before we get to sit down and relax.参考答案:A:CEABDB:BEACDC:DCFBGD:BCDAEE:EDAGCF:FACBDG:FGABE11。

The original passage:Why You Should Learn How to Set and Manage GoalsHow to make goals less overwhelming and more attainableSetting and managing goals is very important for people with and without PTSD. Goals can give your life purpose and direction as well as motivate healthy behaviors focused on improving your life. However, goals can also be very overwhelming and a source of stress, especially if you are struggling with posttraumatic stress disorder or some other mental health disorder. Sometimes people set goals that are too lofty, difficult to attain or too far off in the future. This can bring about a sense of helplessness and hopelessness, increasing risk for depression and low motivation. In addition, sometimes goals can send the message that where you are right now is not good enough, potentially bringing about feelings of shame and guilt. Therefore, you have to be careful when you set goals. It is important that goals are approached in a way that improve your mood and quality of life, as opposed to increasing distress. Listed below are some tips on how to make goals less stressful. In addition to reducing distress, following these tips may also increase your likelihood of achieving goals.Break Your Goals Into Smaller GoalsLarge goals can often feel unattainable and far away. Therefore, it can be helpful to break down that larger goal in a series of smaller goals that you can achieve in the near future. Think of these smaller goals as the stepping stones that will eventually take you towards the larger goal you have set for yourself.Think About What is Driving Your GoalsWhen we set large goals that may take some time to achieve, we can sometimes forget why we set that goal in the first place. As a result, we may lose motivation in attempting to achieve that goal. To counter this, try to think of why you set this goal. What kind of values are driving your pursuit of this goal? For example, let's say that you set the goal of getting a college degree. You may have set this goal because you value education. Likewise, you may have set this goal because you value family and know that a college education may open up a number of opportunities for more financial security for you and your family.Reward Yourself for Making ProgressOftentimes, once someone achieves a goal, they quickly move on to the next goal. Take some time to recognize your achievements. Reward yourself. Take yourself out to dinner or buy yourself a gift. Do something that marks the progress you have made.Give Yourself Permission to Change GoalsSometimes while pursuing a goal we may realize we no longer want that goal. Our interests may have changed or other goals may take priority. It can be hard not to complete a goal, especially after a lot of hard work has gone into pursuing that goal. Give yourself permission to focus attention on other goals. You are not giving up. You are just changing your focus. You will face worse consequences (low motivation, lack of interest) if you stick with the old goal despite not desiring it anymore.Watch Out for Perfectionism or High StandardsNo one is perfect and setting high standards can make goals feel even more overwhelming and difficult to attain.Setbacks will happen. This is okay. The most important thing is that you approach these setbacks with self-compassion (don't beat yourself up or blame yourself -- that will only increase your distress) and re-commit to the pursuit of your goal.Let Others Know About Your GoalsSome goals can take a tremendous amount of effort. Therefore, enlist the help of others. It can also be helpful for others to know what goals you are pursuing because they can keep you focused and committed at times when you may feel your motivation waning. Other people can also provide social support to help with anxiety and stress that may keep you from pursuing a goal.By following these tips, you will be much more likely to achieve your goals, increase your self-confidence and improve your quality of life. Goals can be very helpful; however, goals can bring about stress, anxiety and other unpleasant emotions, especially if you are already managing the demands of a mental health disorder. Therefore, it is very important to make sure that you are moving towards goals in a way that minimizes distress and maximizes success.。
