A certain good woman one day said something that hurt her best friend of many years. She regretted immediately and would have done anything to have taken the words back . What she said hurt the friend so much that this good woman was herself hurt for the pain she caused . In an effort to undo what she had done , she went to an older ,wise woman in the village, explained her situation ,and asked for advice. Listening to her ,the older woman sensed the younger woman's distress and knew she must help her . She also knew she could never alleviate the pain , but she could teach . She knew the outcome would depend solely on the character of the younger woman . She said ,"Tonight ,take your best feather pillows and put single feather on the doorstep of each house in the town before the sun rises." The young woman hurried home to prepare for her chore ,even though the feather pillows were very dear to her .All night long ,she labored alone in the cold. Finally the sky was getting light ,she placed the last feather on the steps of the last house .Just as the sun rose, she returned to the older woman. "Now", said the wise woman,"go back and refill your pillows with the feather you have put on the steps .then everything will be as it was before." "You know that's impossible! the wind blew away each feather as fast as I placed them on the doorsteps!" the young woman was surprised . "That's true," said the older woman."never forget. each of your words is like a feather in the wind. once spoken, no amount of effort, regardless how heartfelt or sincere, can never return them to your mouth. Choose your words well and guard them most of all the presence of those of you love. " ⼀位善良的⼥⼈⼀天说了⼀些话伤害了她的有多年友情的朋友;她话⼀出⼝就后悔了,她想做任何事来收回她的话。

Because of this, for a long time he kept searching that whole area for this treasure. One day, while he was sitting on the boat daydreaming, he suddenly felt that the fishing rod was being weighed down by a heavy object. He excitedly pulled hard at it, and what he saw made him exclaim, "Wow! A big, shiny gold chain!" He pulled hard at the gold chain to get it into the boat, but there seemed to be no end to it. His boat started to get over-loaded and the sea water filled his boat. However, he had begun dreaming of a big house, a big piece of land and buying horses and cows...He kept pulling in the chain though the boat kept sinking. The boat was finally submerged and he struggled to stay afloat. Unfortunately his feet were entangled in the gold chain and he drowned. 很久以前,有个贫穷的渔夫,总是梦想发财,他希望⾃⼰成为百万富翁,他妻⼦更是如此。

The Power of Compliment
The following story is excerpted from "The Fine Art of Small Talk".
Prior to my wedding, I had a conversation with my good friend Karen about all the arrangements.
I told her that for a period of time, I had been seeing two men----Ben and Steve. She invited me to tell her about both of them.
I said, "Ben has a great sense of hunmor. He's the life of the party. He dresses like a million bucks and has taken me on wonderful trips. We've been to Hilton Head, Europe, and had a bunch of weekend mountain getways. He's a great golfer and an all-around wonderful guy."
Karen could hardly contain herself, she was so excited. She said: " He sounds like a dream. I'm so happy that you're marrying him."
" I'm not," I replied, "I'm marrying Steve."
Karen was speechless. Finally, she collected herself and said, " Well Debra, Ben sounds like a prince. Why are you marrying Steve?"
" Beacuse he makes me feel so special because of all the wonderful things he says about me. And you know what? He means every of them."
The power in a sincere compliment is enormous. There is nothing that makes people feel more special than to have their finer traits noted and appreciated.
END。
