We took about a million pictures of it because it was just so beautiful and unreal.Everywhere you look in Yellowstone, there are these littleoga boiling mud pots and smelly sulfur vents. My dad thought it was hilarious every time we passed one with a rotten egg smell. He would do these exaggerated gags and pretend to pass out on the ground. Such a dork! We also saw tons of other geysers erupting, sending water shooting high into the air seemingly outof nowhere. The geysers are totally irregular, so you never know when one is going to go off. That's what makes it so exciting!As amazing as all the thermal stuff was, my absolute favorite part of the trip was seeing all the incredible wildlife. We were lucky enough to spot massive bison just wandering across the roads and grassy fields. They looked like prehistoric beasts! One even walked right up to our car and started licking the side window. I thought for sure he was going to ram us with those huge horns. Mom wasn't too thrilled about that close encounter!We also saw dozens of elk with their massive antlers. At one point, we witnessed two male elk battling it out, ramming their antlers together and bellowing these crazy loud screams. Their antlers were locked together and everything! My little brother was absolutely entranced watching them duke it out.And get this - we actually spotted a grizzly bear with her two cubs! They were way off in the distance, but we could still see them with our binoculars. A park ranger was there to make sure we kept a very safe distance since momma grizzly can be super protective and aggressive if she feels her babies are threatened. I'm so excited to tell you all about the awesome place my family and I visited over spring break! We went to this really cool city called San Diego in California. It's right near the Pacific Ocean and the border with Mexico. There was a museum all about different kinds of aircraft and space travel called the Air and Space Museum. They had a whole section on dinosaurs that lived in the ocean too with books and models showing what they may have looked like. I also loved the Dinosaur 4-D movie we watched that made you feel like you were really there. When theT-Rex roared, the whole room would shake from the sound. So awesome!Speaking of awesome experiences, we also went to this place called LEGOLAND that was basically a gigantic playground and amusement park, but everything was made out of LEGOs! They had roller coasters, a giant LEGO castle, and all sorts of LEGO characters walking around that we could take pictures with. My favorite part was MINILAND though - it was like an entire city in miniature made from millions of LEGO bricks! They recreated famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace, the Statue of Liberty, and even the Las Vegas strip all out of LEGOs. It was so detailed and realistic, you could spend hours just staring at it all.We also checked out the beach in San Diego which was beautiful. The water was a little chilly but we still went swimming and body surfing in the waves which was a blast. The cutest were the baby African penguin chicks - they looked like fluffy tennis balls waddling around!The aquarium also has entire sections devoted to Rivers of the World showcasing species from places like The Amazon River, India, and other parts of Asia. Today I want to tell you all about my favorite place - the Beijing Zoo!The Beijing Zoo is huge! It covers over 89 hectares of land. That's like 120 football fields put together! Inside there are different sections for different kinds of animals. The sections have environments set up to be just like the animals' natural habitats in the wild.Let me start by telling you about the Asian Gardens section. This part has pandas, red pandas, Asian elephants, and other animals from Asia. The pandas are my absolute favorite! They are so cute and fluffy. Did you know pandas only eat bamboo? The zookeepers have to bring in over 200kg of fresh bamboo everysingle day to feed them. That's as heavy as two baby elephants! Watching the pandas munch on bamboo is really fun.Next is the Aquarium building. Here you can see all different kinds of fish, sharks, rays, and other marine life. My favorite thing is walking through the underwater tunnels with the fish swimming all around you. It's like you're at the bottom of the ocean! They have this one huge tank with really big sharks and rays gliding above your head. It's awesome but a little scary too!Another cool place is the Reptile House. This is where all the snakes, lizards, and other reptiles live. Some of the snakes are super long, over 5 meters! That's taller than a whole classroom ceiling. They have venomous snakes too like cobras and rattlesnakes. Don't worry though, they're kept safely behind very thick glass. My friend Hui is really interested in snakes and reptiles so we always spend a long time looking at everything here.You also have to check out the Monkey House when you go. Hundreds of monkeys live here and it's so funny watching them swing from branch to branch and make lots of noise. Some of them look pretty human-like which is kind of freaky! One time a cheeky monkey stuck his hand out and tried to take my friend Zhang's bag of candy. We all laughed so hard.My favorite areas are probably the North American Prairie section and Australian Wilderness though. On the North American Prairie you can see bison, bears, wolves, and other animals roaming around in a big open field, just like they would in the wild prairies of places like Canada or the United States. It feels like you're on a real nature safari!The Australian section has kangaroos, wallabies, and even Tasmanian devils! You can watch the 'roos hop around and box each other which is really funny. Tasmanian devils are these small black furry animals that look cute but are actually really fierce. They have the loudest screeching sound that always makes me jump!There's also a petting zoo at Beijing Zoo where you can go inside and actually touch and feed some of the smaller, friendlier animals like goats, sheep, and rabbits. Just be careful because sometimes the goats accidentally headbutt you if you're not paying attention! It's really fun though, especially for little kids.When you get tired, there are plenty of places to rest and eat. You can buy tasty snacks like ice cream, cotton candy, and roasted nuts from little carts and stands around the zoo. For a real meal, there are some nice restaurants too with both Chinese food and American-style fast food. It's an incredible sight.There are different sections of the Great Wall that you can visit. The part closest to Beijing is called Badaling. I prefer going to areas like Mutianyu that are a bit farther away because they aren't as crowded with tourists.The Summer PalaceMy favorite place in Beijing is the Summer Palace. It used to be a garden and summer resort for emperors to escape the heat. Now it's a big park with a beautiful lake, gardens, temples, and even a marble boat!I love renting a boat and paddling around Kunming Lake. The water is so clear that you can see all the way to the bottom. Sometimes you can even spot giant goldfish! Hiking up Longevity Hill is tiring but the views from the top are amazing. You can see the whole Summer Palace from up there.At the Summer Palace, you can also see the Marble Boat, which looks like a real boat but it's actually made out of fancy marble stone. The detail on it is beautiful with intricate dragon carvings.There are so many other fun things to do at the Summer Palace like taking a panda photo, dressing up in ancientcostumes for pictures, and eating yummy snacks like sugar dragon's beard candy.Street FoodSpeaking of snacks, some of the best food in Beijing is from street vendors. You have to be careful about which ones you try, but my parents take me to their favorite trusty stalls.My number one favorite is jianbing, which is kind of like a crepe or burrito filled with an egg, crispy wontons, scallions, sauce and maybe a crumbly crisp. It's so delicious! I also love freshly grilled skewers of meat, veggies, or seafood. The barbecue smells amazing. We also took a glass-bottomed walkway stretched between two rocky peaks. It was a little scary looking down, but the views were mind-blowing. What an amazing place - no wonder it's a UNESCO World Heritage site.The Bund in ShanghaiLast year, my family traveled to the city of Shanghai on the east coast. One of the highlights was walking along the Bund, a famous waterfront area on the Huangpu River. On one side are old European-style buildings left over from when Shanghai was divided into foreign concession territories in the 1800s. They have Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance designs and look like something from the movies.On the other side of the river are futuristic skyscrapers all lit up at night. The Oriental Pearl TV Tower looks like a glowing alien spaceship! Watching the neon lights reflect on the water made me feel like I was in the future. The contrast between old and new architecture gives the Bund such a unique vibe.Reed Flute Cave in GuilinGuilin is a small city known for its stunning natural scenery of karst hills. But the entire cave is also lit up in neon colors creating an incredible glowing fairyland.My favorite area was the "Crystal Palace" - a massive chamber with folded red curtain-like rocks covering the walls. Other sections reminded me of mythical beasts, Buddha statues and trees made of stone. Exploring the winding paths through the kaleidoscope of lights and shadows felt like a dream. This cave system is millions of years old but looks straight out of a fantasy movie!The Terracotta Warriors in Xi'anFor our last stop, we visited Xi'an to see the famous Terracotta Warriors. This is one of the most important archaeological finds ever made. In the 1970s, farmers digging a well stumbled upon an entire underground army of life-size clay soldier statues!These warriors were built over 2,000 years ago to guard the tomb of China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. Each figure has incredibly detailed armor, hair, and facial features. And there arethousands of them lined up in battle formation along with horses and chariots. It's mind-boggling that all this was buried and forgotten for centuries until its rediscovery.Walking through the excavated pits housing the warriors was like traveling back in ancient times. You could almost hear the stomp of their boots and clash of their weapons. The scale and craftsmanship is just breathtaking. You can climb up to the top of the mountain and look down at his head, or you can take a boat ride on the river to see him from below.One of the coolest things is that there are these tiny caves and temples carved into the cliff around the Buddha. Imagine how long it must have taken the sculptors to carve all of that by hand!If you're lucky, you might even get to see monks doing special ceremonies or prayers in front of the Buddha. It's a really peaceful and spiritual place.The Li RiverFinally, I have to tell you about the Li River in Guangxi Province. This is a beautiful winding river that flows through these incredible karst mountains that look like giant green spikes sticking out of the ground.The best way to experience the Li River is by taking a boat tour. You'll float down the river, surrounded by the towering mountains and passing through little fishing villages. We went up to the top of Victoria Peak which is the tallest mountain in the center of Hong Kong. From up there you can see the whole city skyline stretched out below you. At night all the bright lights from the buildings twinkle like stars.We took a traditional red sailboat cruise around Victoria Harbor too. I loved watching the colorful junk boat sails catching the wind as we glided past the iconic Hong Kong skyscrapers on both sides of the harbor. Walking around the different neighborhoods was an experience in itself. Some areas like Sheung Wan have a more historic, old-town feel with narrow alleys and traditional shops and temples. While the Central district is all about towering modern skyscrapers and posh shopping malls.
