In my opinion, a fascinating book has to keep its mystery from the first beginning to the end. And the readers never know what will happen next so that they will keep on their readings.For the book The Woman in White, when I first saw Percival Glyde, the baronet, Laura’s fiancé, I regarded him as a respective, smart, humorous gentleman. I fell in love with the characters at the first sight. I looked forward to his wedding with Laura, and I thought they will have a happy ending. But in the next page of the book, it showed that Mr. Percival was a bad guy. There were much evidence which are relevant to his crime so that I gradually accept the idea that Mr. Percival was involved in some guilty job, but again, it seemed that he was innocent and he was a good man. In order to find out the real character of Percival Glyde, I kept on reading and reading, and Icouldn’t move my eyes from the book until I reach the exactly result.Take Ann Cathreric, the woman in white, as another example. So I think a successful bookshould be a mysterious book, and you can’t know the result until you put your eyes onto the last sentence.Think about that, there are two books—book A and book B. For book A, you can guess the ending of the story when you finish the first several chapters. While for book B, you can’t know the exactly ending until you finish the whole book. servants couldn't recognise Laura either due to her so great changes.So they had to leave the place where they had spent their happiest life .Before leaving,Laura insisted to see their mother's grave.There they met Walter who just came back from the expedition to central America.Later on they figured out what happened on earth.Fosco and Percival caught Anne and because of her bad health,Anne died immediately after she was caught.The took her body as Laura's and make everybody believe that Laura had died.By doing this,Percival could get the property from Laura to pay his debts.All the plot ,troubles and tragedy were due to money.What a pity!The secret that may destroy Percival was that he committed the forgery by adding the record of his parents' marriage himself.At that time ,forgery was a very serious crime.Once discovered,he would be punished severely.After he knew that Walter had known his secret,he hurried to the church in hope of destroying the proof.In a hurry,he upset the lantern and locked himself in the fire and never came out again.What moved me very much was that at that time Walter tried to save him and forgot that he was his enemy.What was inhis mind was only that he was a human being who was caught in fire and needed help.Maybe that's why people can master the world ,not any other animals.Human beings have some unique characters which may not be found even by themselves.Once disaster comes,they will explode and produce unbelievable power.After all, the story had a happy ura and Walter got married and had a son,who became the master of Limmerig A satirical and cynical view of human hypocrisy drawn with skill in the pictures Flaubert draws of such figures as the village priest, scientist, merchants and moneylenders. Society is concerned with money and social status to the detriment of more spiritual and ethical values.c. Flaubert introduces a new realism to the novel which will influence such naturalist as Emile Zola and others.() The novel reads as if it was written today instead of over 150 years ago.d. Flaubert"s descriptions of the beauty of nature （and its indifference to human suffering and troubles） are beautifully etched. • There are three typical women in this story, Laura, Anne and Marianne. Laura is tender, beautiful and kind, and in the eyes of men, she is an ideal wife, However, those words also mean weak, which cause their tragedy for some reason. Anne is a innocent but have mental problem girl, and she want to tell Laura about her fiance’s scheme, that lead to her dead directly. Contrasted with them, Marianne is more attractive for me, though she isn’t so beautiful. She is brave, smart and selfless, and even the Count(伯爵) Fosco admit “she is a amazing woman”.

In this story, Hartright, the teacher of drawing, fall in love with his student Laura, and found Laura looked like another Anne, who dressed all in white, but at the same time, he was told Laura has been engaged to Percival. Percival is a selfish and cruel man, and the only aim to marry is to get Laura’s property. Laura’ old sister, Marianne know his personality and hope Laura give up her promise, but Laura thinks she should not be against her father’s decision, though her father has dead.

My Feeling
• <The Women in White> is a detective book, and firstly I was attracted by its name, because it gives me lots of imagination. But after reading it, I think it have more significance, especially about Marianne. She is so selfless and love her sister so mach, that all make me think of my old sister. Before entering university, I always wish I were the old not the little. But now all changed for everything my old sister has done for me, and I begin really understand how precious the love in families is.
• In the chapter IV, when she found something was suspect, she takes a life risk to eavesdropping(偷听) the conversation between Percival and Fosco under the window with heavy rain and dark, just for her sister, and I was moved by her selfless and love. What’s more, while she and Hartright were fighting with Percival in the fire, she performance great courage and wisdom, until Percival died. And after Laura married with Hartright, she still takes care of them with her whole heart.
• After married, Laura was forced depart with Marianne, and lives a bad life with Percival, no freedom and no smile. Hartright was also forced to leave his motherland, because Percival want to kill him, both for his wife and Anne. When the sisters meet again, Marianne found Percival’s scheme, and try to leave him with Laura, but failure. Later, she get a terrible news, Laura has died. She doesn’t believe, and finally found Laura is in asylums(疯人院), the women in grave was Anne, their another sister. Marianne looks for Hartright, and they rescue Laura from asylums and expose Percival’s crime. At least, they live a happy live.
