返回我的课程图例:Right WrongCommunity colleges, therefore, are very busy places. Many students take classes part-time, which they schedule to attend either before or after their work hours, in the evening, or even on weekends. Many community colleges are open from early in the morning till late at night. Because they are usually paid for by the state or local tax money, their doors are open to all students. Everyone living in the area served by the community college is welcome to attend.Because they serve so many people with so many different educational needs, community colleges offer many different kinds of programs. Thus, there are several programs that might be of interest to international students.Community Colleges offer:∙University-transfer (转校) programs;∙Technical programs;∙Job-training programs;∙Basic-skills programs;∙Special-interest programs.International students would probably be most interested in the first program on the list: university-transfer programs. Community colleges offer the first two years of a normal four-year bachelor's degree program. Thus, students who attend a community college can prepare themselves to transfer to a four-year institution by completing the beginning courses of a program at the community college instead of at a university. After two years, students can apply for a four-year college or university to complete their degree. International students may also be interested in the technical programs or job-training programs at community colleges. For example, many community colleges have certificate (证书) programs in fields such as air conditioning, car technology, building and construction, business, medical technology, police and fire department training, child and family studies, and many other areas with promising careers.Community colleges also provide basic skills courses for students who need help with reading, writing or math. These students mayneed special preparation for their jobs or to continue theirMany people enroll in special-interest classes. These classes may be for recreation or hobbies, such as sports, dancing, music, or art. Community colleges, by definition, serve the community with the kind of programs that citizens want and need.Community college education is available to adults of any age and background. As a result, community colleges have a unique place in the educational system of the United States. These quality institutions are the fastest growing segment of American higher education and now enroll more students than any other kind of institution. Community colleges make high-quality education convenient and cheap to virtually everyone.Admission to Community CollegesFor international students coming to the United States, community colleges offer excellent educational opportunities. Community colleges usually have an easy, open-admission process. Generally, for successful admission to a community college, an international student needs to have evidence of high school completion, English proficiency (精通), and enough finances for the stay in the United States.Cost of Community CollegesCommunity colleges generally have lower costs than four-year colleges and universities. Students can save money during the first two years of their studies. Then, they can transfer to any four-year institution to complete the final two years of a bachelor's degree. Community colleges are fully-accredited (官方认可的). Credits earned at a community college can usually be transferred to any other institution.Learning at a Community CollegeStudents will find a supportive learning environment at community colleges. Sometimes classes are smaller, and students can benefit from more individual attention from the professors.Community colleges also offer international students a clearer view of the American society. Although some of the traditional features of a college campus—such as dormitories—are missing, there area variety of other aspects of the community college environmentof helping people of all ages and backgrounds—includinginternational students—realize their educational dreams. Transferring CreditsOne of the great strengths of the American higher educationalsystem is the ease with which students can transfer from onecollege or university to another. It is not unusual, for example, for astudent attending a small private college to transfer to a large, comprehensive public university.Importance of AccreditationAlthough the higher educational system in the US makestransferring easy, there are some points to keep in mind if you areconsidering a transfer. Please note that the following commentsonly concern transfers from one accredited institution to anotherwithin the United States. Transfers from or to institutions that arenot accredited is not recommended. If a student attends aninstitution that lacks accreditation, there is a risk that the coursescompleted will not transfer to an accredited institution. Alwayscheck the accreditation of the institution you plan to attend and alsocheck if the program of study or major that you have chosen isaccredited by a professional organization.Making Transfers EasyMany colleges and universities have arrangements known as"Articulation (明晰) Agreements" with other institutions. Theseagreements allow students to transfer from one institution to theother as part of a program of study. Generally speaking, suchagreements allow easy transfer with little or no loss of credit andtime. For example, engineering students may study for three yearsat the undergraduate level at one college, then transfer to anothercollege for two more years and receive both a bachelor's and amaster's degree at the end of the five year program of study.Sometimes such programs are known as "3+2 programs" becausethey are designed to be completed in a total of five years. Community colleges often have articulation agreements withfour-year colleges and universities. Many states have similarmechanisms for transferring credits. Many private colleges and universities that are located nearcommunity colleges also have detailed lists of how and what courses will transfer. If you plan ahead, a transfer can be an excellent way to accomplish your educational goals and enrich your experience with higher education in America.1.The passage gives an introduction to community colleges inthe United States.A. Time passed and my cards sold well. My enthusiasm for the greeting card business grew quickly. All along, I had been drawing fantasy art: monsters, dragons, castles, etc. With the birth of my first son in 1980, the content of my work went through a pretty dramatic change.Fantasy went out of the window, and I began to illustrate reality. In the spring of 1983, we, The Mary Engelbreit Greeting Card Company, took our 12 little designs to New York to exhibit them at a national card show.I remember how big the show was. I just couldn't get over it. I had no idea there were so many different card companies. And it was exciting because our 12 little cards were getting a lot of attention in that huge place!I've been told one of the reasons we had so much success at that show is because my card style was different than anything else at the market. I typically draw complicated details and use deep colors and funny or meaningful quotations.By 1985, many greeting card publishers started noticing my art, and two of them approached me with licensing contracts.I have always believed if you choose a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life. In the early days of sea travel, seamen on long voyages lived exclusively on salted meat and biscuits. Many of them died of scurvy (坏血病), a blood disease which causes swollen gums, livid (铅色的) white spots on the flesh and general exhaustion. On one occasion, in 1535, an English ship arrived in Newfoundland with itscrew seriously ill. The men's lives were saved by Iroquois Indians(易洛魁印第安人) who gave them vegetable leaves to eat. Gradually it came to be realized that scurvy was caused by something lacking in the sailors' diet. Captain Cook, on his long voyages of discovery to Australia and New Zealand, established the fact that scurvy could be warded off by the giving fresh fruit to the sailors.Nowadays it is understood that a diet which contains nothing harmful may yet result in serious diseases if certain important elements are missing. These elements are called "vitamins". Quite a number of such substances are known and they are given letters to identify them, A, B, C, D, and so on. Different diseases are associated with a lack of particular vitamins. Even a slight lack of Vitamin C, for example, the vitamin most plentiful in fresh fruit and vegetables, is thought to increase our chances of catching colds. The vitamins necessary for a healthy body are normally supplied by a good mixed diet, including a variety of fruit and green vegetables. It is only when people try to live on a very restricted diet, say, during the extended periods of religious fasting (斋戒), or when trying to lose weight, that it is necessary to supply the missing vitamins.11.Which of the following happens because of scurvy?A. People become hungry.B. People lose blood.C. People become livid.D. People feel pain in their gums.12.How would the sailors ward off scurvy on long trips?A. They took fresh fruit with them.B. They stopped in places to relax.C. They often found Indians to help.D. They ate vegetable leaves regularly.CTotal :正确率: %=> 就此结束考试,返回我的课程返回我的课程。

But these popular schools are not well understood outside the United States. What are community colleges? Why should international students take a closer look at them? Community colleges have also been called "two-year" colleges or "junior" colleges, but the preferable name is "community college". These institutions, found throughout the United States, primarily serve local communities. Unlike the four-year, bachelor's degree-granting colleges and universities, community colleges usually do not have dormitories (宿舍). They are "commuter schools" often located close to expressways (高速公路) and public transportation routes so that students can reach the campus easily from the nearby areas.Community colleges, therefore, are very busy places. It had laid four eggs nearby, effectively claiming the main stage area as its nesting ground. "This is one of the most challenging problems we've been presented with, but we feel we can work through this," said Mark Monahan, executive director of the festival. "Anything that changes the schedule has a major effect, so we're taking it very seriously."The discovery meant that government officials rushed to protect the nest and the eggs, hiring a security guard to watch over them 24 hours a day.Environmentalists were also brought in. "We don't know when the eggs might hatch," said Monahan. What is known is that the young killdeer will likely leave the nest soon after they are hatched, leading many to hope that the eggs hatch in the next day or so.The festival is now seeking permission from Environment Canada to relocate(搬迁)the nest some 50 meters away or take it to a wildlife center. Moving the nest would also ensure the bird and its young would be protected during the festival's 11-day run, said Monahan. It's highly likely that the festival's thousands of attendees would cause huge problems for the bird and its eggs. Monahan was confident that the festival would go on as planned, however. "Most of the people we're working with are looking for a positive solution," Monahan said. "There is no one saying that the festival can't go on."As news of the dilemma spread, it left residents divided. Some supported the bird, saying that moving the nest might result in the eggs being abandoned. Others expressed annoyance that protecting the eggs of the small bird, which is widespread across North America, was risking an annual festival that contributes millions of dollars to the local economy. The killdeer's tendency to build its nest in open fields or flat areas has caused issues in other areas of the US: earlier this year, construction of a health center in Wisconsin was temporarily stopped after a killdeer and its four eggs were discovered.(1)What can we learn about Bluesfest?A.It is the first music festival in Canada.B.It is an important event for music lovers.C.It is a music festival held every two years.D.It is a challenging outdoor activity in Ottawa.(2)What was especially challenging for Bluesfest this year?A.Pressure from the government.B.Disagreements with the public.C.The need to protect the bird's eggs.D.The lack of experience in hosting the event.(3)How did the festival plan to deal with the problem?A.Move the nest to another place.B.Ask government officials for help.C.Seek advice from environmentalists.D.Hire security guards to protect the eggs.(4)The underlined word "dilemma" is closest in meaning to "______".A.a difficult situationB.an extreme situationC.a dangerous situationD.an encouraging situation【答案】(1)B(2)C(3)A(4)A【解析】【分析】本⽂是⼀篇记叙⽂,对于⾳乐爱好者来说,⾮常重⼤的加拿⼤⾳乐事件Bluesfest,在上周⼯作⼈员在现场发现了⼀只⼩⽔鸟,它在附近下了四个蛋,把主要舞台区域作为它的筑巢地,以及就主办⽅准备将鸟巢搬离此处引发了⼈们讨论。

BDo you want to live a happier, less stressful life? Try laughing for no reason at all. That's how thousands of people start their day at Laughter (笑声)Clubs around the world and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy. The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria. "Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day," says Dr. Kataria. "Everyone is naturally good at laughing-it's the universal language. We want people to feel happy with their lives." There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over l,300 in the world. Many doctors are also interested in the effects (效果) of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study at the UCLA School of Medicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.So what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest, I wasn't interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking stupid. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha.” while looking at each other. However, our bodies can't tell the difference between real laughter and unreal laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects.Surprisingly, it worked! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real and some people just couldn't stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed-and comfortable I felt. Dinosaurs(恐龙)once lived on the earth for a long time. They suddenly disappeared millions of years ago. What happened to them? That's still a mystery. People never stop searching for the answer. Some US scientists say it is because there were not enough male(雄性的)dinosaurs. They got this idea after researching crocodiles(鳄鱼).Mother crocodiles lay eggs and later baby crocodiles come out. The local temperature decides the sex(性别)of the baby crocodile. When the eggs are at a temperature of 26℃ to 30℃,the babies are all girls; when the temperature is 30℃ to 34℃,there are both boys and girls; when it is 34℃ to 36℃, only boys are born.Dinosaurs' babies also came from eggs. So scientists have given us a new picture: millions of years ago, it suddenly became very cold. Almost all dinosaur babies were girls. There were fewer and fewer male dinosaurs. Mother dinosaurs could not give birth to more babies. Finally, these powerful animals disappeared.(1)①e________ as many or as much as necessary②l________ to produce eggs from the bodies of birds, insects and so on(2)同义句转换Dinosaurs' babies also came from eggs.Dinosaurs' babies came from eggs ________ ________.(3)When did dinosaurs suddenly disappear?(4)What decides the sex of the baby crocodile?(5)Are the baby crocodiles only boys when it's 35℃?【答案】(1)enough;lay(2)as;well(3)Millions of years ago.(4)The local temperature.(5)Yes.【解析】【分析】主要讲了通过调查鳄鱼得知数百万年前恐龙消失的原因。

乘车的比较晚,车上除了空座位。

不必注意安全看看是不是人比我更须要,就在司机后面的侧座位上起身去,窗外是依然飘荡的雪花,春寒迟迟不肯离去。

随着站名的更替,车上的人多了起来。

What are community colleges Why should internationalstudents take a closer look at themCommunity colleges have also been called "two-year" collegesor "junior" colleges, but the preferable name is "communitycollege". These institutions, found throughout the UnitedStates, primarily serve local communities. Unlike thefour-year, bachelor's degree-granting colleges anduniversities, community colleges usually do not havedormitories (宿舍). They are "commuter schools" often locatedclose to expressways (高速公路) and public transportationroutes so that students can reach the campus easily from thenearby areas.Community colleges, therefore, are very busy places. Manystudents take classes part-time, which they schedule to attendeither before or after their work hours, in the evening, or evenon weekends. Many community colleges are open from early in themorning till late at night. Because they are usually paid forby the state or local tax money, their doors are open to allstudents. Everyone living in the area served by the communitycollege is welcome to attend.Because they serve so many people with so many differenteducational needs, community colleges offer many differentkinds of programs. Thus, there are several programs that mightCommunity Colleges offer:University-transfer (转校) programs;Technical programs;Job-training programs;Basic-skills programs;Special-interest programs.International students would probably be most interested in the first program on the list: university-transfer programs. Community colleges offer the first two years of a normal four-year bachelor's degree program. Thus, students who attend a community college can prepare themselves to transfer to a four-year institution by completing the beginning courses of a program at the community college instead of at a university. After two years, students can apply for a four-year college or university to complete their degree.International students may also be interested in the technical programs or job-training programs at community colleges. For example, many community colleges have certificate (证书) programs in fields such as air conditioning, car technology, building and construction, business, medical technology, police and fire department training, child and family studies, and many other areas with promising careers.students who need help with reading, writing or math. Thesestudents may need special preparation for their jobs or tocontinue their education. Many people enroll in special-interest classes. These classesmay be for recreation or hobbies, such as sports, dancing, music, or art. Community colleges, by definition, serve thecommunity with the kind of programs that citizens want and need. Community college education is available to adults of any age and background. As a result, community colleges have a unique place in the educational system of the United States. These quality institutions are the fastest growing segment of American higher education and now enroll more students than any other kind of institution. Community colleges makehigh-quality education convenient and cheap to virtuallyeveryone.Admission to Community CollegesFor international students coming to the United States, community colleges offer excellent educational opportunities.Community colleges usually have an easy, open-admissionprocess. Generally, for successful admission to a communitycollege, an international student needs to have evidence ofhigh school completion, English proficiency (精通), and enoughCost of Community CollegesCommunity colleges generally have lower costs than four-year colleges and universities. Although some of the traditional features of a college campus—such as dormitories—are missing, there are a variety of other aspects of the community college environment that make it very special. Community colleges are in the business of helping people of all ages and backgrounds—including international students—realize theireducational dreams. One of the great strengths of the American higher educational system is the ease with which students can transfer from one college or university to another. It is not unusual, for example, for a student attending a small private college to transfer to a large, comprehensive public university. Importance of AccreditationAlthough the higher educational system in the US makes transferring easy, there are some points to keep in mind if you are considering a transfer. Please note that the following comments only concern transfers from one accredited institution to another within the United States. Transfers from or to institutions that are not accredited is not recommended. If a student attends an institution that lacks accreditation, there is a risk that the courses completed will not transfer to an accredited institution. Always check the accreditation of the institution you plan to attend and also check if the program of study or major that you have chosen is accredited by a professional organization.Making Transfers EasyMany colleges and universities have arrangements known as "Articulation (明晰) Agreements" with other institutions. These agreements allow students to transfer from oneinstitution to the other as part of a program of study. Generally speaking, such agreements allow easy transfer with little or no loss of credit and time. For example, engineering students may study for three years at the undergraduate level at one college, then transfer to another college for two more years and receive both a bachelor's and a master's degree at the end of the five year program of study. Sometimes such programs are known as "3+2 programs" because they are designed to be completed in a total of five years.Community colleges often have articulation agreements with four-year colleges and universities. Many states have similar mechanisms for transferring credits. Many private colleges and universities that are located near community colleges also have detailed lists of how and what courses will transfer. If you plan ahead, a transfer can be an excellent way to accomplish your educational goals and enrich your experience with higher education in America.1.The passage gives an introduction to community collegesin the United States.A. Many of them died of scurvy (坏血病), a blood disease which causes swollen gums, livid (铅色的) white spots on the flesh and general exhaustion. On one occasion, in 1535, an English ship arrived in Newfoundland with its crew seriously ill. The men's lives were saved by Iroquois Indians (易洛魁印第安人) who gave them vegetable leaves to eat. It is only when people try to live on a very restricted diet, say, during the extended periods of religious fasting (斋戒), or when trying to lose weight, that it is necessary to supply the missing vitamins.11.Which of the following happens because of scurvyA.
