Answer the following questions briefly based on the given pictures.1) Lipstick is used to apply color to the lips.2) Nail polish is applied to fingernails or toenails to decorate and / or protect the nails.3) Eye shadow is applied to areas around the eyes, usually on the eyelids and under the eyebrows, to make the eyes stand out or look more attractive.4) Mascara is used to enhance the eyes. It may help make the eyelashes darker, thicker and longer.5) Eyeliner is used to draw lines around the eyes so as to create a more beautiful contour.6) Powder foundation is used to tone the face and give it an even, uniform color. It can cover flaws, and some can also protect the face from damage caused by sunlight. Facial masks, sunscreen, facial cream, eye cream, etc.Reference:1.• Yes, I do use some of these products once in a while. For example, when I go to parties, I often apply lipstick and eyeliner. On such occasions, putting on some makeup gives me a good mood.• No, I don't use any of them because I'm a male and these products are all for women. However, I do apply sunscreen when I stay outdoors for a long time in summer. 2.• Yes, they are generally used by women. What men usually do may be just shaving and having a haircut.• No, I don't think only women use cosmetics. Although men in general do not use such products in daily life, it is possible that male actors and singers wear some makeup when they perform.1. The sentence means that it is very difficult, or even impossible, for a man to give a right answer when a woman asks him how she looks, no matter how hard he thinks about it and how many different answers he tries.2. Men are satisfied with being average-looking, paying little attention to their looks. In contrast, women pay great attention to their body and image, considering their appearance as not good enough even if they are in fact attractive.3. The interaction of many psychological and societal factors, for example, their childhood experiences with toys, and the influence of the media.4. Girls' toys are proportioned to have extreme measures of the body (e.g. in terms of height, weight and waist size), whereas boys' toys can look weird rather than handsome.5. It implies that men pay little attention to the details of their appearance.6. Cindy Crawford is mentioned as an example to show that the beauty industry and the media have great influence on women's devotion to physical beauty and the use of beauty products.7. The author thinks that the claim is not right since men in fact pay little attention to the details of women's appearance.8. Women think so because men do not even care about their own appearance. For instance, a man often does not bother to clean the cream in his hair or ears after shaving.1.I think there are three main factors accounting for women's greater attention to appearance. The first are cultural traditions. It is common in many cultures that people put high value on beauty when they look at women. The second is the requirement of certain jobs. For example, in China airline companies set certain criteria for appearance (e.g. in terms of height and weight) when they recruit stewards and stewardesses. Finally, the influence of the media is another strong factor which shapes women's pursuit of physical beauty. There are a lot of advertisements of cosmetics and skincare products in various media such as TV, magazines and newspapers. They often have celebrities as the spokesperson for the advertised products, which makes women have an illusion that they could look as good as those famous stars if they use the products. In short, these three factors exert immense influence on how women value appearance.2.• Yes. On certain f ormal occasions, a person, either female or male, has to pay attention to his attire. Sample cases are job interviews, business meetings, weddings, and banquets. This is because to dress properly is an important element of successful completion of these events.• No. People do not have to care what others think of them as long as they feel comfortable and satisfied with their looks themselves. After all, this is the most important source of happiness to people.3.In my opinion, the important traits of human beauty include two types, one for appearance and one for inner qualities. Features that characterize a beautiful appearance are a good-looking body, proper clothes and accessories, as well as use of makeup that matches the occasion or event one is attending. Inner qualities that make a person beautiful mainly include good manners and positive personality traits such as honesty, bravery or friendliness.4.• Yes. Women should pay great attention to their appearance and hence need to wear makeup. This is because beauty is, believe it or not, usually an important quality for women to succeed, for example, when they want to look for a job or an ideal husband.• No. What really makes a person beautiful is inner beauty rather than physical appearance. A beautiful look can't last long, but inner beauty, for example, intelligence and honesty, may make a person successful and happy throughout his life.5.I would market a new product by three means. First, I can ask a celebrity, for example a famous movie star or a supermodel, to be the brand spokesperson on TV. This is a common practice in the advertising industry, and I think it is very effective. Second, I will hire people to distribute flyers and give away free samples of the product on the streets, so the product can reach potential customers directly. Inaddition, I may post advertisements on public transportation vehicles such as buses and subways. In this way, the commercials can be seen by a large number of people.1.deficient2.prosecution3.outragestrand4.appeased5.conformity6.strandplement8.transient9.appliances10.o utfitdeficient, orientation, confrontation, composer, binder, scanner, manufacturer, erase, imperialist, leftist, terrorist, humanistdomination scanners humanist confrontation leftists orientation erased terrorists manufacturers binder imperialists composersachieving gorgeous considered context accessories appreciated complexion handsome comment admirationin hopes of came up with excused herself was obsessed with reaching out to voice an opinion on live up to in terms ofWhen you get yourself ready to go to school or work in the morning, or attend a party in the evening, you may have to do various preparations. What you consider as essential to prepare largely depends on whether you are a female or a male. Women and men take care of their appearance in different ways, which are mainly shown in three areas. One difference lies in the variety of beauty products that women and men use. Women have a great variety of tools and skincare products; for example, combs and clips for hair, brushes for powder foundation, and eyeliners for eyebrows, creams for face, to name just a few. Men, however, do not use so many things. They may comb their hair, but they seldom use cosmetics.Another difference involves the amount of clothes women and men have. Females usually have many more clothes than men do. You may well be familiar with movie scenes in which a woman tries on the outfits in her wardrobe one after another and still hesitates about which one to wear. Unlike females, males do not buy themselves piles of clothes as long as they still have something at home.人们普遍认为,威廉・莎士比亚是最伟大的英语作家和世界杰出的戏剧家。

U校园新视野大学英语4 读写译答案Unit 1Section A1-2Pre-reading activities-1BAABB ACCPre-reading activities-21. Reasoning skills deal with the process of getting from a problem to a solution or a c onclusion. By improving your reasoning skills, you can improve your success in doin g things. Specifically, strong reasoning skills can help you to:• improve the quality and validity of your own arguments;• improve your ability to assess the quality and validity of others' arguments;• make more logical decisions;• solve problems more efficiently and effectively. To give a specific example, every day you have to make various decisions, and yet ev en some simple decisions like deciding what to wear when you're getting dressed in th e morning require some reasoning skills. When you decide what to wear, you take ma ny factors into consideration – the weather forecast, the current temperature, your plan s for the day (where you are going, what you will do, and whom you will meet), your comfort level, and so on. In real life, you need to face decisions that are much more di fficult than choosing what to wear. So, it is really important to have strong reasoning s kills.2. The factors below are usually important for a logical conclusion:• critical thinking skills;• facts;• evidence;• sound reasoning process, etc.Reading comprehension-11. The deal between them is that the narrator gives Rob his leather jacket, and Rob, in exchange, gives the narrator his girlfriend. They make the deal because they want to get something from each other: Rob is crazy about fashion, and he wants to own the narrator's fashionable leather jacket; the narrator longs to have a beautiful girlfriend, and Rob's girlfriend is beautiful.2. He thinks a beautiful and well-spoken girlfriend will assist him to land a job and achieve success in an elite law company.3.The narrator feels this way because he can't stop thinking that his purpose of dating Polly is not for romance but for improving her intelligence, and he can't let Polly know his plan.4.The narrator decides to teach Polly logic because he believes logic is essential to clear thinking. By teaching Polly logic, he can make her intelligent.5. When the narrator teaches her logic, Polly responds either shortly with "Cool", "Great", "I like that idea", or simply with nodding or blinking without saying anything. These responses give us an impression that Polly is a nice but rather simple-minded girl.6. Yes. He is only too successful in teaching Polly logic because in the end when he asks Polly to be his girlfriend, Polly refuses his request by applying all the logical fallacies he has taught her.7. Because he wants to make one more attempt to win Polly as his girlfriend by asking her to forget what he has taught her.8. The end of the story is ironic because Polly turns out to be smarter than the narrator. First, she is able to refute all his arguments as logical fallacies. Then, she discloses that she and Rob have played a trick on him. The narrator has been too smart for his own good.Reading comprehension-21. In my opinion, all the three characters are complex. The following are my descriptions about them. The narrator:• Smart: He is an excellent law student and knows a lot about logic.• Sophisticated: He believes a beautiful and intell igent girlfriend will benefit him in his future career.• Arrogant and self-conceited: He thinks highly of himself but badly of his roommate.• Over-confident: He thinks the girl will surely choose him rather than Rob.• Stupid and simple-minded: He knows nothing about what can happen in real life.Rob:• Fashionable and cool: He loves fashion and cares a lot about his appearance.• Dishonest: He plays a trick on the narrator to get his leather jacket.• Clever: He is able to get what he wants without losin g anything.Polly:• Beautiful and nice: She is pretty and easy to be with.• Shallow: She chooses Rob simply because he is fashionable.• Smart: She learns quickly and is full of wit when refusing to be the narrator's girlfriend.2.The story itself includes the fallacy "Dicto Simpliciter". The narrator assumes that all girls would be happy to date a boy whose future is somewhat guaranteed. Therefore, Polly, a beautiful and wealthy young girl, would certainly fall in love with him – "an ingenious student" and "a man with an assured future", rather than Rob – "a muscular idiot". However, to the narrator's surprise and disappointment, Polly chooses Rob in the end because Rob is fashionable and cool.3.• Love is blind. It is ridiculous to use logic to deal with love.• Smart people sometimes can make wrong judgments.• Smart people are sometimes too arrogant and confident.• Smart people may fall victims to their own smartness.4.• Yes. Because not only would teaching logic in school help minimize the overwhelming number offallacious assertions, but also would serve as an excellent precursor to higher mathematics and help make other courses such as geometry and calculus less of a mystery to most students.• No. Because logic can be learned through other subjects such as math, philosophy, reading, etc. It's not necessary to offer a special course about it.5. Yes, certainly. Actually, logical fallacies are very common in our everyday life. I myself commit logicalfallacies very often, too. For example, when I first met my roommate in college, I felt very surprised when he told me he didn't like noodles. I asked, "People in the north of China like eating noodles. You are from the north, why don't you like noodles?" Here I committed the logical fallacy "Dicto Simpliciter". I falsely asserted that all people in the north should like noodles, and there should be no exception to this premise.1-3Words in use1.crumbled2.discern3.surpass4.shrewd5.conversion6.distort7.radiant8.ingenious9.stumped10.propositionWord building: Practice-11.delicacy2.bankruptcy3.accountancy4.secrecy5.vacancy6.urgency7.atmospheric8.magnet9.metallic10.gloom11.guilt12.masteryWord building: Practice-21.bankruptcies2.atmospheric3.delicacies4.urgency5.Accountancy6.gloom7.magnet8.Metallic9.mastery10.vacancy11.guilt12.secrecyBanked cloze1.mentioned2.determine3.gained5.heavily6.artistic7.opposite8.analytical9.distorted10.stumpedExpressions in use1.were dripping with2.in exchange for3.flared up4.make an analogy between5.set a date for6.make7. out of8.made a pact9.had appealed to1-5Translation-1亚里士多德是古希腊哲学家和科学家。

U校园新视野大学英语4读写教程答案(Unit 4 )

U校园新视野大学英语4读写教程答案Unit 4 Nature: To worship or to conquer Section A4-2 Text A: Achieving sustainable environmentalism Pre-reading activitiesPre-reading activities-11) A2) B3) B4) B5) APre-reading activities-21) As I understand, a "green city" is a city or town that focuses on environmentally friendly practices. It aims to improve the livability of urban surroundings and benefit the well-being of citizens living there.2) To build a green city, other measures include water quality control, efficient recycling and management of waste, use of renewable energy sources, increase of city residents' awareness of environmental protection, and easy access to products and services that make green lifestyle choices easy, such as easy access to organic products and clean transportation methods.Reading comprehensionReading comprehension-11) The rule of sane environmentalism, which holds the belief that it is only necessary to combat ecological changes that directly threaten human health and safety.2) Because they directly threaten human beings, and their consequences cannot be easily addressed.3) It indulges in overt earth worship. It is sentimental, highly selective and incompatible with the reality of natural disasters.4) The author means that he doesn't think man should indulge in nature worship because natural disasters can bring people terrible tragedies.5) The author thinks that biodiversity is necessary to the ecosystem, but it has to be sacrificed sometimes to meet more fundamental human needs.6) The author stands on the side of protecting the logging families. To him, the livelihood of the logging families is more important than the spotted owl.7) The author thinks that nature is under the supervision of us humans, rather than being our master. Humans need to respect nature as well as cultivate it. But when humans have to choose between their own interests and those of nature, they should put their own interests in the first place.8) Man should adapt to nature only when his fate and that of nature are closely connected and man's fate is put in danger. For example, ozone depletion and the greenhouse effect will threaten the living environment of man. Therefore, man has to change his behavior anddo something to stop or reduce the impact of ozone depletion and the greenhouse effect.Reading comprehension-21) I don't quite like the author's classification of "environmental necessity" and "environmental luxury".I think this classifying method is too narrow and extreme. To me, all the issues related to environmental protection need to be considered, not just the ones that threaten human health and safety. Take what the author says about the spotted owl for example. If the spotted owl becomes extinct, the whole ecosystem will be affected and we don't know what other environmental problems will arise.I like the author's classification of "environmental necessity" and "environmental luxury". To me, the world can only spend money and energy protecting things that human beings do depend on for survival. It is impossible for the world to deal with all kinds of environmental problems due to its inability to pay for the costs.2) Human activities can either cause natural disasters or make their effects much worse. For example, one reason that sandstorms, floods and landslides take place is that forests have been destroyed by humans and there are not enough trees and plants to hold the soil. To reduce such natural disasters, humans should attach great importance to planting trees, and at the same time make strict laws to protect forests so that people will not cut trees without planning.3) I think man and nature are interdependent. The reasons are as follows. First, man must realize that he is part of nature and he needs to depend on nature. Therefore man can't ignore natural laws and change nature as he likes. Second, man must understand that nature needs to be managed. If nature has a problem, man should try to solve it as soon as possible. Otherwise, man will eventually suffer from the consequences of the problem.4) Some environmental problems the world is faced with: Water pollution: A large population in the world lacks access to clean drinking water.Air pollution: The air in many cities of the world is so seriously polluted that people can hardly see a blue sky.Wildlife protection: Natural habitats of the wildlife are seriously damaged, and many wildlife species are in danger of extinction.Land erosion: Desertification in some places of the world is causing the loss of large areas of grassland every year.To sum up, these problems are caused by the following factors:People don't have strong awareness of environmental protection.People don't have a long-term vision. They hunt or cut down trees for temporary profit, but they don't realize the price they or their children have to pay in the long run. Some local governments don't make good plans about economic development.5) First, the authorities must have better foresight. Environmental protection is a long-lasting campaign and its impact can't be felt in a short term. However, governments and authorities should always keep in mind the imperative of environmental protection. Some economic benefits don't last long, but the harm to the environment may be enduring. Second, strict laws and policies should be made to ensure that the economy is not developed at the cost of the environment. For example, factories which produce heavy pollution should be closed down and punished severely so that other factories will not do the same.4-3 Text A: Language focusWords in use1. consolidate2. differentiate3. dreadful4. incompatible5. alleged6. bizarre7. correlation8. negligible9. habitats10. intelligibleWord building: Practice Word building: Practice-11) harmonious2) disastrous3) spacious4) hazardous5) virtuous6) victorious7) desirous8) adventurous9) evenly10) routinely11) consequent12) respectivelyWord building: Practice-21. victorious2. hazardous3. consequent4. adventurous5. disastrous6. evenly7. spacious8. respectively9. virtuous10. routinely11. harmonious12. desirous Banked cloze1) incompatible2) preserve3) available4) proportion5) utilized6) converted7) dreadful8) balance9) sane10) considerable Expressions in use 1. took on2. called upon3. runs against the grain4. be incompatible with5. come through6. is bound up7. differentiate between8. have struck a chord with4-4 Structure analysis & writingStructured writing: Practice参考:Have you ever been to a national park? How do you like it? Nowadays, national parks are very common in the world, and they can be found in many countries. Most people believe that national parks are necessary because they can help protect the variety of species on earth and offer people a place where they can explore nature and learn more about the environment. However, there are also different voices about the establishment of national parks. Some people are against national parks because they argue that wild areas should not be disturbed, and wild animals should be left entirely alone. But I think these people may not have realized that some wild animals and plants have become so rare that proper protection is necessary and urgent. The establishment of national parks aims to provide a safe home for native plants and animals. For instance, Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan Province has provided a natural habitat for giant pandas and many other precious species.Other people oppose national parks because they worry that too much exploration of national parks can be damaging to the environment. True, extreme exploration will do harm to anything. But reasonable exploration of national parks can not only increase people's knowledge about the environment, but also is beneficial to the protection of biodiversity. The thing is, in considering building up a national park, the authorities and experts involved must plan carefully to make sure that the national park will play a significant role in protecting biodiversity. In addition, the government can use the park as a livingschool to teach people the importance of environmental protection. All in all, I agree that national parks are necessary. If we can make good use of them, we can not only protect plant and animal species, but also help people learn more about our environment.4-5 TranslationTranslationTranslation-1参考:巴洛克建筑是一种建筑风格,兴盛于16世纪晚期至18世纪中期的欧洲。

Each statement contains information given in one of the paragraphs. Identify the paragraph from which the information is derived. You may choose a paragraph more than once. Each paragraph is marked with a letter. The Rise of the Social EntrepreneurA) UBS, a Swiss private bank with many of the world’s richest people among itsclients, is conducting an interesting experiment in Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. Ithas formed an alliance with Ashoka, a global organization that invests in leading“social entrepreneurs” – people who use creative business practice with the potentialto solve a social problem. The alliance is offering a new prize for socialentrepreneurship, to bring together two groups of people who might never meet inother cases. “As the biggest wealth manager in the region, we are at the crossroadsbetween capital and ideas – so why not bring the people with capital together with thepeople who have ideas?”B) The social entrepreneurs that are shortlisted (入围) must have been workingsuccessfully with Ashoka for at least three years. Winning the prize is not really thepoint. Simply being selected to be in the room with a bunch of wealthy people givesthe social entrepreneurs great trustworthiness with potential donors, and evenrunners-up (第二名) have a good chance of coming away with a new financial supporter or some other form of help. Héctor Castillo Berthier, who runs an innovative project for troubled Mexican teenagers, came third in last year's Mexican prize, but still got a crucial donation and free use of office space.C) Ashoka is not alone in bringing social entrepreneurs together with the wealthy and powerful. Social entrepreneurs now rub shoulders with the world's business and political elite at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Ashoka was founded in 1980 by Bill Drayton, a former McKinsey consultant, who expects the rise of social entrepreneurship to generate huge benefits. He says it is now helping to bring about a productivity miracle in what he calls the “citizen half of the world” (education, welfare and so on), a sector that for three centuries has lagged behind the “business half of the world”. The emergence of more social entrepreneurs, and their improved access to growth capital as they get better connected to philanthropists (慈善家), is creating enormous productivity opportunities for the citizen sector.D) The citizen sector is mainly made up of government plus the non-profit sector. Both government and non-profits have traditionally been run inefficiently. The productivity miracle is due both to a shift from government provision to more efficient private provision and by an increase in the efficiency of the non-profit sector.E) However, the improvement the efficiency may still have some way to go. In 2004, Bill Bradley, a former presidential candidate, and two consultants claimed that, in America alone, there was a “$100 billion opportunity” for the non-profit sector to improve its efficiency through better management. But is social entrepreneurship the best way to achieve that? There is no easy answer, because nobody is sure what exactly the term means. In a book on the rise of social entrepreneurship, David Bornstein notes that most discussion of social entrepreneurship tends to revolve around “how business and management skills can be applied to achieve social ends”. He himself sees social entrepreneurs as “transformative forc es: people with new ideas to address major problems who are persistent in the pursuit of their visions”.F) Mr. Schramm of the Kauffman Foundation, which promotes a better understanding of entrepreneurship, says that being an entrepreneur means being a risk-taker, but a high risk of failure may be the last thing that many non-profits need. Mr. Omidyar, a philanthropist and the founder of eBay, is uncomfortable with the label either, which he feels implies a disapproval of profits that he does not share. But his fellow philanthropist from eBay, Mr. Skoll, thinks social entrepreneurship has something going for it. The mission of his foundation is “to advance systemic change to benefit communities around the world by investing in, connecting and celebrating social entrepreneurs”.G) Among other things, Mr. Skoll has endowed the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at Oxford University's Saïd Business School. This is part of a growing trend for academic institutions, including nowadays most business schools. Harvard Business School started teaching a course on social enterprise 12 years ago. Mr. Schramm worries that some of these courses are more likely to turn students against capitalism. But Mr. Whitehead, a former Goldman Sachs boss, sees it as part of a trend among the elite in many countries who want to make not just money but “a difference”.H) Certainly the number of business-school graduates going into the non-profit sector has increased. That appeals to the new philanthropists, who want to see people like themselves in charge of the non-profit organizations they support. But these new professionals may achieve as much by using the latest management techniques to improve the performance of existing non-profit organizations than by creating new ones through social entrepreneurship.I) Mr. Collins, the management master, says getting the right people is arguably even more important in the non-profit world than it is in business, because it is often harder for non-profits to get rid of employees once they are “on the bus”. Business leaders can fire people more easily and can spend money on buying talent. But some social entrepreneurs have found their own ways of securing top talent. Wendy Kopp, who in 1989 founded Teach for America – a non-profit organization – made it clear from the start that only the best would do. By last year, over 97,000 people had applied to work for her organization, but only 14,000 had been accepted. Ms Kopp's ability to pick and choose boosted her credibility with her philanthropic supporters and enabled her to raise more money.J) Many non-profit organizations have been cautious of working with big donors because their money can come with too many strings attached. And that is starting to change. Barbara Stocking, the boss of Oxfam, a global charity, says they now want to raise more money from the sort of wealthy philanthropists it has not targeted in the past –if only because in Britain there haven't been many of them. “I'm not sure we have been asking for enough money,” s he says.K) But the main problem for many non-profit organizations is how to get bigger. “One of the problems is that well-run non-profits don't necessarily grow,” says Nigel Morris, the co-founder of a credit-card company. True, growth isn't everything. Indeed, Mr. Collins worries that non-profits will put scale before genuine effectiveness: “One of the markers of mediocre (平庸的) companies is that they become obsessed with scale and growth,” he says. But donors need to decide if they simply want to buy services from a non-profit, or whether they want to invest in helping the organization grow. If growth is important to them, they need to become a lot less critical aboutexpenses.L) There is no merger-and-acquisition (并购) market in the non-profit world. And for all sorts of reasons, there are far too many non-profits. Philanthropists could help by encouraging consolidation (整合), says John Studzinski, co-head of HSBC's investment bank and an active philanthropist. “In homelessness work, I'm a great advocate of consolidation. There are about 40 homelessness projects in London;only eight are any good,” he says.M) There is also a role to be played by philanthropists in encouraging non-profits to develop other sources of finance, to reduce their dependence on the goodwill of donors. Providing fee-generating services is one strategy. Doing work for the government is another. Many non-profits have long generated revenues in this way.11)Many non-profit organizations are now faced with the difficulty in promoting their growth and scale. K12)The growing number of social entrepreneurs and better chances to get growth capital will help improve the productivity of the citizen sector. C13)Business schools are now attaching increasing importance to the courses on social entrepreneurship. G14)The number of non-profit organizations is larger than necessary due to various reasons. L15)Philanthropists can encourage non-profit organizations to be more financially independent of sponsors with two strategies. M16)In an experiment by an alliance for social entrepreneurship, potential sponsors are likely to trust social entrepreneur seven if they have not won any prize. B17)It is difficult to determine whether social entrepreneurship is the most effective means to improve the efficiency of non-profit sector. E18)Non-profit organizations are not so flexible in hiring or firing their employeescompared with those for-profit organizations. Some people worry about what will happen when thedeposits of petroleum are gone, but researchers are already finding all kinds of newways to obtain energy. Someday, solar power collected by satellites circling the earthor nuclear power manufactured by mankind may give us all the energy we need foran expanding civilization. Space exploration promises to open up many newterritories for human settlement, as well as leading to the harvest of mineralresources like the asteroids (小行星).Scientific research continues to open up previously undreamed-of possibilities.Seventy years ago, few people could even imagine things like computers or lasers.Today, a host of newly emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence andgenetic engineering are opening up all kinds of new paths for technologists.Like it or not, our advancing technology has made us masters of the earth. We not only dominate all the other animals, but we are reshaping the world's plant life and even its soil and rocks, its waters and surrounding air. Who would think that spending a year doing a business plan is a good thing, or that formal business plans spell success?Business plans are sometimes overdone and misused, but the planning process is critical. About 60 years ago, Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “The plan is useless; it’s the planning that’s important.” That’s still true today. In fact, all business plans are wrong. They’re the work of humans guessing the future, dealing with uncert ainty and making assumptions. Still, the planning process is absolutely essential. A startup entrepreneur’s planning process should start with a plan and continue with a plan vs.reality review, progress tracking and course correction.Planning is about controlling your destiny: Establish your business goals and outline the steps needed to achieve them –don’t just react to events. While your plan will be wrong, of course, how would you track what is going wrong without it? You can’t havea route without a starting point and a destination, but even the most well-plannedroute may require some detours (绕道).For the best results, planning should be concrete and specific. For each step in your plan, create dates, deadlines and clearly assigned responsibilit ies. You can’t track your progress and steer your company efficiently with vague generalities (概述). In real-world planning, form follows function. When new businesses seek investors they usually need formal plans. Investors who say they don't need formal plans still need to see your strategy, focus, priorities, commitments, dates and deadlines. The content has to be there, regardless of the format. Although you may not need aformal plan, all businesses need to go through the planning process. There will always be examples of businesses with great plans that fail and businesses with no plans that succeed, but I feel it’s very dangerous to tell startup entrepreneurs they don’t need a plan. The truth of the matter is that most of us need more planning, not more rationalizations for not doing it.26)What does the quotation from Dwight D. Eisenhower imply?27)Why does the author say that “all business plans are wrong”?28)What’s the most important function of a plan?29)What elements should be included in a plan?30)What can we infer from the passage?A. All plans are wrong, so no specific plan is necessary for a project.B. Planningshould be as detailed as possible with the most well-planned route.C. Awareness of strategy, focus, and commitments is critical to any project.D. Whether you are able to draw up a formal plan or not controls your destiny.参考答案:26) B 27) D 28) A 29) B 30) C∧收起解析。
