art when he was only six years of age.But he did not know about brushes before a visitor told him he needed one.In those days,a brush was made from camel's hair. There were no camels nearby.Benjamin decided that cat hair would workinstead. He cut some fur from the family cat to make a brush. The brush did not last long.Soon Benjamin needed more fur. Before long, the cat began to look ragged(蓬乱).His father said that the cat must be sick.Benjamin was forced to admit what he had been doing. The cat's lot was about to improve. That year, one of Benjamin's cousins,Mr.Pennington, came to visit. He was impressed with Benjamin's drawings. When he went home,he sent Benjamin a box of paint and some brushes. He also sent six engravings (版画)by an artist. These were the first pictures and first real paint and brushes Benjamin had ever seen.In 1747,when Benjamin was nine years old,Mr.Pennington retured for another visit. He was amazed at what Benjamin had done with his gift.He asked Benjamin's parents if he might take the boy to Philadelphia for a visit. In the city,Mr.Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings. The boy began a landscape (风景)painting.Wiliam Wiliams,a well﹣known painter, came to see him work.Wiliams was impressed with Benjamin and gave him two classic books on painting to take home. The books were long and dull.Benjamin could read only a little, having been a poor student. But he later said,"Those two books were my companions by day,and under my pillow at night."While it is likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to classical paintings. The nine﹣year﹣old boy decided then that he would be an artist.21.What is the text mainly about?A.Benjamin's visit to Philadelphia.B.Williams'influence on Benjamin.C.The beginning survey(调查)by the National Sleep Foundation,51% of kids aged 10 to 18 go to bed at 10 pm or later on school nights, even though they have to get up early.Last year the Foundation reported that nearly 60% of 7﹣to 12﹣year﹣olds said they felt tired during the day,and 15% said they had fallen asleep at school. How much sleep you need depends a lot on your age.Babies need a lot of rest:most of them sleep about 18 hours a day!Adults need about eight hours. For most school ﹣age children, ten hours is ideal(理想的).But the new National Sleep Foundation survey found that 35% of 10﹣to 12﹣year﹣olds get only seven or eight hours. And guess what almost half of the surveyed kids said they do before bedtime?Watch TV."More children are going to bed with TVs on,and there are more opportunities(机会)to stay awake, with more homework, the Internet and the phone,"says Dr.Mary Carskadon,a sleep researcher at Brown University Medical School. She says these activities at bedtime can get kids all excited and make it hard for them to calm down and sleep.Other experts say part of the problem is chemical.Changing levels of body chemicals called hormones not only make teenagers'bodies developadult characteristics, but also make it hard for teenagers to fall asleep before 11 pm.Because sleepiness is such a problem for teenagers, some school districts have decided to start high school classes later than they used to.Three years ago, schools in Edina,Minnesota, changed the start time from 7:25 am to 8:30 am.Students, parents and teachers are pleased with the results.25.What is the new National Sleep that excite them.C.They follow their parents'examples.D.They don't need to go to school early.28.(7.5分)FLORENCE,Italy﹣Svetlana Cojochru feels hurt. The Moldovan has lived here seven years as a caregiver to Italian kids and the elderly, but in order to stay she's had to prove her language skills by taking a test which requires her to write a postcard to an imaginary friend and answer a fictional job ad.Italy is the latest Western European country trying to control a growing immigrant (移民)population by demanding language skills in exchange for work permits,or in some cases, citizenship. Some immigrant advocates worry that as hard financial times make it more difficult for natives to keep jobs, such measures will become more a vehicle for intolerance than integration(融合).Others say it's only natural that newcomers learn the language of their host nation, seeing it as a condition to ensure they can contributeto society.Other European countries laid down a similar requirement for immigrants, and some terms are even tougher. The governments argue that this will help foreigners better join the society and promote understanding across cultures.Italy, which has a much weaker tradition of immigration, has witnessed a sharp increase in immigration in recent years. In 1990,immigrants numbered some 1.14 million out of Italy's then 56.7 million people,or about 2 percent. At the start of this year, foreigners living in Italy amounted to 4.56 million of a total population of 60.6 million,or 7.5 percent, with immigrants'children accounting for an ever larger percentage of births in Italy.Cojochru, the Moldovan caregiver, hoped obtaining permanent residence(居住权)would help her bring her two children to Italy;they live with her sister in Moldova, where salaries are among the lowest in Europe. She was skeptical that the language requirement would encourage integration.Italians always"see me as a foreigner,"an outsider, even though she's stayed in the country for years and can speak the local language fluently, she said.28.Why does Cojochru have to take a language test?A.To continue to stay in Italy.B.To teach her children Italian.C.To find a better job in Italy.D.To better mix with the Italians.29.Some people worry that the new language requirement may.A.reduce Italy's population quickly B.cause conflicts among peopleC.lead to financial difficulties D.put pressure on schools30.What do we know about Cojochru?A.She lives with her sister now in Italy.B.She enjoys learning the Italian language.C.She speaks Italian well enough for her job.D.She wishes to go back to her home country.第二节(满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项.选项中有两项为多余选项.31.(10分)How to Do Man﹣on﹣the﹣Street InterviewsThe man﹣on﹣the﹣street interview is an interview in which a reporter hits a bright, warm July afternoon,Mac Hollan,a primary school teacher, was cycling from his home to Alaska with his friends. One of his friends had stoppedto make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on,and they would catch up with him soon.As Mac pedaled (骑行)along alone,he thought fondly of his wife and two young daughters at home.He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday. Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him."Man,that's a big dog!"he thought. But when he looked to the side,he saw instantly that it wasn't a dog at all,but a wolf, quickly catching up with him.Mac's heart jumped. He found out his can of hear spray. With one hand on the bars,he fired the spray at the wolf.A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac's relief,it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later,it was by his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac's bike, tearing open his tent bag.He fired at the wolf a second time, and again,it fell back only to quickly restart the chase(追赶).Mac was pedaling hard now.He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to slow down.He saw a steep uphill climb before him.He knew that once he hit the hill,he'd be easy caught up and the wolf's teeth would be tearing into his flesh. At this moment,Paul and Beeky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn't think much of it when they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road.A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside a man on a bike.As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf.Mac heard a large vehicle behind him.He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a dozen yards away now.注意:1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2.应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;The car abruptly stopped in lived here seven years as a caregiver to Italian kids and the elderlyin order to stay she's had to prove her language skills by taking a test which requires her to write a postcard to an imaginary friend and answer a fictional job ad.Italy is the latest Western European country trying to control a growing immigrant(移民)population by demanding language skills in exchange for work permits,or in some cases, citizenship. Some immigrant advocates worry that as hard financial times make it more difficult for natives to keep jobs, such measures will become more a vehicle for intolerance than integration(融合).Others say it's only natural that newcomers learn the language of their host nation, seeing it as a condition to ensure they can contribute to society.Other European countries laid down a similar requirement for immigrants, and some terms are even tougher. She was skeptical that the language requirement would encourage integration.Italians always"see me as a foreigner,"an outsider, even though she's stayed in the country 2017年浙江省宁波市十校联考高考英语模拟试卷(5月份)-教师用卷
2017年浙江省宁波市十校联考高考英语模拟试卷(5月份)副标题一、阅读理解(本大题共6小题,共15.0分)AWe live in a society where many people tend to have"black and white thinking"and extreme thinking.Every day a new headline announces a certain food is bad and ruining our health, while praises another food of its amazing benefits. Each year, new studies in nutrition science come out, many of which are against earlier findings.Additionally,we are sold the lie that if we eat the"correct foods"and follow a set of rules,we will gain health and happiness. We've all heard someone saying,"I ate a brownie(巧克力蛋糕)and I was so bad today."Someone feels that what they eat determines whether they are a"good"or"bad"person. For instance, someone might also say,"I am a good parent if I feed my child this."However, food isn't good or bad. What you choose to eat does not determine your value or worth as a human being. The only reason to feel guilty for eating a brownie is that you stole it from the store.Besides, the idea that you shouldn't eat later in the evening is a nutrition myth. Our metabolism (代谢)keeps running 24hours a day.Rules (like telling yourself when to stop eating)create fear and a sense that you cannot trust with food.Consistently fueling your body every few hours especially when you are hungry will allow you to feel your best.So when you feel hungry before heading to bed,eat some cheese and crackers. In my opinion, mental health is an important part of one's overall health.I think we can all agree that being terrified to eat some food is not mentally healthy.Rather than focusing on food rules, aim for balance, variety and flexibility.1.We can judge whether a person is"good"or"bad"by ______ .A. the source of the foodB. the time when they eat their foodC. the person's preference for foodD. the things they put in their food2.Which of the following can be inferred from the text?______A. It's wrong for people to eat anything late in the evening.B. It's important to keep a balanced diet for people's health.C. Fear of some food is an important reflection of mental health.D. Parents who give children bad food are bad parents.3.What seems to be the author's attitude toward me present thoughts about food?______A. DisapprovingB. FavorableC. ReservedD. Objective.【答案】【小题1】A 【小题2】B 【小题3】A【解析】21.A 细节理解题.根据文章第二段内容可知我们所吃的食物对一个人的好坏应该是有我们食物来源来判断而不是其他的因素,结合选项故选A.22.B 推理判断题.根据文章最后一段最后一句"Rather than focusing on food rules, aimfor balance, variety and flexibility."与其注重食物规则,不如瞄准平衡、多样性和灵活性.可知要保持均衡的饮食对人们的健康.23.A 细节理解题.根据文章开头Every day a new headline announces a certain food is bad and ruining our health, while praises another food of its amazing benefits."每天,总有一个新的新闻表明某个食物是坏的,它会损害了我们的健康,同时又会赞扬另一种食物的号.以及I think we can all agree that being terrified to eat some food is not mentally healthy. BWriters used to approach publishers to have their work read by the public. Now they can simply post them and find millions of instant audience. After breaking up with her boyfriend,Bao Jingjing started"making up"a love story simply to distract(转移)her attention. Her story of a girl suffering the pain like hers progressed quickly, attracting many readers. When Bao stopped writing as she reunited with her boyfriend, she was hastened to continue,as readers wanted to know what happened next.Bao finished it soon.It became so popular that it was turned into a best-seller.In addition,Bao's novel was later adapted into a successful movie.Bao's story is only one of many Internet novels that have landed deals for physical books,TV shows and films.Unlike traditional writers who buried themselves in their books for years, some young writers like Bao have got readers rapidly online and find overnight success.Bao admits her success was unexpected. She still remembers how surprised her parents were when she proudly gave them her copyright earnings.Online literature forums are platforms for grassroots writers to succeed. In recent years,Zhang Wei,known as"Tangjiasanshao",has earned 177million yuan by his fingers though working as an author was beyond his dreams. He topped the list of wealthiest Chinese Internet novelists twice and was the only online writer to be listed on the2014Forbes"Chinese Celebrity List".He admits that he is one of the few writers at the top of the pyramid while most online writers remain unknown. However,he thinks that his success can be achieved by others,as long as"they write hard enough".4.What do we know about Bao Jingjing according to the passage ______ .A. Bao Jingjing's first online story was turned into a TV show.B. Bao Jingjing didn't really expect her success overnight.C. Bao Jingjing didn't finish her first online love story.D. Bao Jingjing's parents didn't want her to be a writer.5.The underlined words"hastened"in Paragraph 3probably means ______ .A. permittedB. forcedC. urgedD. forbidden6.What can we infer from what Zhang Wei says in the last paragraph?______A. Few words, many deeds.B. First try,and then trust.C. Harm set, harm get.D. No pains,no gains.【答案】【小题1】B 【小题2】C 【小题3】D【解析】28-30BCD28.B 细节理解题.根据第五段第一句,Bao admits her success was unexpected.可知Bao没有想到自己一夜成名了,故选B.29.C 猜测词意题.根据as readers wanted to know what happened next可知,读者想知道下面发生了什么,所以hastened应该是敦促的意思,故选C.30.D 推理判断题.根据最后一段中的However,he urged that his success can be achieved by others,as long as"they write hard enough"可知,张威认为只要够努力,就像他一样成功,故选D.No pains,no gains.不劳不获;Few words, many deeds.少说多做;Harm set, harm get.害人害己;First try,and then trust.试过才信.作家过去通常会让出版商把自己的作品让大众读出来,但是现在可以通过邮寄的方式而且听众也有很多.做本题时,首先要快速浏览全文,把握文章的主旨大意,理清作者的写作思路;然后结合上下文,逐句分析,并正确理解题干的意思;最后结合选项中内容,找到符合文意的选项.二、阅读七选五(本大题共5小题,共10.0分)Things You Shouldn't Do in Your College InterviewCollege interviews are a chance for admission officers to get to know you on a more personal level. After all, they can only learn so much from your grades. ACrossing your legs is an extremely common habit; most people don’t even notice that they’re doing it when they sit down. While you may find it comfortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason this happens is because the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart, crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You won’t fe el any immediate effects, but if you sit for long periods of time it’s important that you take note of how long you have your legs crossed for. You shouldn’t have your legs crossed for more than 15 minutes, and it’s important that you get up and walk around at least once every hour.Crossing your legs can also lead to neck and back pain. Ideally, it’s best for our bodies to sit with our feet planted flat, hip width apart, on the floor, but it’s not easy to maintain perfect posture all day at the office. When you sit with your legs crossed your hips are in a twisted position, which can cause one of your pelvic(骨盆的) bones to rotate. Since your pelvic bone supports your neck and spine, this can cause pressure on your lower and middle back and neck. You also might notice that when you sit with your legs crossed for long periods of time your feet and legs get tingly or have the feeling of being asleep. This is because when one leg sits on top of the other it causes pressure on the veins and nerves in your legs and feet. It can cause numbness and/or temporary paralysis in the legs, ankles, or feet. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage. So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.(原创)1. What does the underlined word “tingly” (in paragraph 4) mean?A. a slight stinging feelingB. a clear ringing soundC. a pleasant warm feelingD. a strong excitement feeling2. What is the purpose of this passage?A. To increase people’s knowledge of sitting with their legs crossed.B. To introduce the bad influences that sitting with their legs crossed has on people.C. To help people form the habit of sitting with their legs.D. To advocate getting rid of sitting with their legs.BMicrosoft has developed a new smartphone app that interprets eye signals and translates them into letters, allowing people with motor neurone disease to communicate with others from a phone. The GazeSpeak app combines a smartphone’s camera with artificial intelligence to recognize eye movements in real time and convert them into letters, words and sentences. For people suffering from ALS(渐冻症), also known as motor neurone disease, eye movement can be the only way they are able to communicate.“Current eye-tracking input systems for people with ALS or other motor impairments are expensive, not robust under sunlight, and require frequent re-calibration and substantial, relatively immobile setups,” said Xiaoyi Zhang, a researcher at Microsoft who developed the technology.“To mitigate the drawbacks…We created GazeSpe ak, an eye-gesture communication system that runs on a smartphone, and is designed to be low-cost, robust, portable and easy to learn.”The app is used by the listener by pointing their smartphone at the speaker. A chart that can be stuck to the back of the smartphone is then used by the speaker to determine which eye movements to make in order to communicate. The sticker shows four grids of letters, which each correspond to a different eye movement. By looking up, down, left or right, the speaker selects which grids the letters they want belong to. The artificial intelligence algorithm is then able to predict the word or sentence they are trying to say.Zhang’s research, Smartphone-Based Gaze Gesture Communication for People with Motor Disabilities, is set to be presented at the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems in May.(原创)4. The first alert my husband, Jimmy, 67, and I, 65, got camearound 9 p.m., from some scrolling text on the TV Jimmy was watching. He ran upstairs to find me in our third-floor bedroom, and we changed the channel from the presidential primary debate I had been watching to our local Pensacola, Florida, station. No sooner had we found coverage of the tornado than it was on top of us. It was the loudest thing I have ever heard. The bones of the house shook, and the power went out. Pink insulation flew into the room from a trapdoor to the attic, and the wind began to roar through the house, most likely through blown-out windows and the door to our garage. We had three flights of steps to navigate to get to the relative safety of the first floor. Because the closet down there is wedged underneath a brick staircase, it seemed like the sturdiest place in our town house to wait things out.I didn’t know how or if we would make it down the steps. It felt as if there were no floor underneath me as the wind lifted me off my feet. I gripped the banister and tried to move forward, but this intense pressure held me in place. In those seconds of practical stillness, I could hear everything around me rattling. Everything was moving. As we reached the last flight of steps, our front door blew out. Shards of glass that looked like crushed ice flew everywhere. Suddenly, a three-foot-long tree branch whipped through the doorframe. It flew over our heads, missing us by inches. Had we been one step up, it would have impaled us.We got close to the staircase landing only to hear the loud ripping sound of our garage door coming off. The back wall of the house followed suit and tore off into the darkness outside.By the time I reached the closet, the tornado had been over us for about a minute. Jimmy pushed me down to the closet floor, but he couldn’t get inside himself because of the wind. I gripped Jimmy’s arm as the tornado sucked the door open—we never did get it fully shut—and tried to bring Jimmy with it. My knees and scalp were full of glass, but in that moment, I felt no pain. If I had let go, Jimmy would have flown right out the back of the house and into the bay.“Hold on! Hold on!” h e yelled. But there was nothing in this closet to hold on to. We use it to store Christmas decorations. All of a sudden, Jimmy lifted off his feet like people in tornadoes do in the movies. I thought he was gone. And then everything stopped. He landed on his feet. In those first quiet moments, I couldn’t believe it was over. Jimmy said he’d go outside to check. “No,” I said. “Don’t leave me. Don’t leave me.”Our neighbor says the storm lasted four minutes. In that time, four of the twelve town houses in our unit were completely destroyed. Of the houses left standing, ours suffered the most damage. Amazingly, none of us were severely injured.(原创)7. What does the underlined sentence “No sooner had we found coverage of the tornado than it was on top of us.” in paragraph 2 mean?A. As soon as the couple found the news of the tornado on the TV, it hit the town.B. When the couple found something to cover their house, the tornado came.C. The couple had not found tornado. Soon, it came on top of them.D. The couple did not have the courage to fight against tornado when it was on the top of them.8. Which of the following sentences is NOT true about the passage?A. There was no any symbol of the tornado’s coming.B. A three-foot-long tree branch impaled the couple.C. Because of the strong wind, not both of the couple could get into the closet floor.D. Jimmy didn’t fly right out back of the house.9. Why didn’t the wife feel pain?A. Because she didn’t get any hurt when the storm hit.B. Because she was too scared to feel pain when the tornado was over her.C. Because she devoted all her strength to holding on to her husband.D. Because she had reached the closet and she was safe.10. What is the main idea of the passage?A. A severe tornado hit the town.B. The disaster should be warned in advance.C. Man can conquer nature.D. The couple experienced an unforgettable 4 minutes.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

AI was sure that I was to be killed. I became terribly nervous。
I fumbled(摸索) in my pockets to see if there were any cigarettes, which had escaped their search. I found one and because of my shaking hands, I could barely get it to my lips。
But I had no matches, they had taken those. I looked through the bars at the guard。
He did not make eye contact with me. I called out to him “Have you got a light?” He looked at me, shrugged and came over to light my cigarette. As he came close and lit the match, his eyes unconsciously locked with mine。
At that moment, I smiled。
I don’t know why I did that. Perhaps it was nervousness, perhaps it was because, when you get very close, one to another, it is very hard not to smile. In any case, I smiled。
At that moment, it was as though a spark jumped across the gap between our two hearts, our two human souls. I know he didn’t want to, but my smile leaped through the bars and caused a smile on his lips, too. He lit my cigarette but stayed near, looking at me directly in the eyes and continuing to smile。
I kept smiling at him, now thinking of him as a person and not just a guard。
"Do you have kids?" he asked. “Yes,here, here." I took out my wallet and nervously fumbled for the pictures of my family。
He, too, took out the pictures of his family and began to talk about his plans and hopes for them。
My eyes were filled with tears. I said that I feared that I’d never see my family again, never have the chance to see them grow up。
Tears came to his eyes, too. Suddenly, without another word, he unlocked my cell and silently led me out. Out of the prison, quietly and by back routes, out of the town. There, at the edge of town,he released me. And without another word, he turned back toward the town。
