I.产品说明类汉译英1. 商业广告的汉英翻译1.1商务广告的主要功能有三个:传播商业信息,诱发公众需求;塑造企业形象,提高企业知名度;展示商情,为公众咨询提供方便。
要取得这些功能,作为促销手段的广告首先必须引人注目,即具有“注意价值”(attention value)和“可读性”(readability)。
例如“谁跑到最后,谁笑得最好------He who lasts last laughs best(某一轮胎广告)”,该广告是模仿某句谚语“He who laughs last laughs best”改编而来的,读起来朗朗上口又颇具意味,达到了上述的注意价值和可读性;其次,必须具有“说服力”(persuasive power)或“推销能力”(selling power),能使人产生购买所促销售产品的欲望。
例如“美酒酿出世界的爱------Good liquor helps you to get love everywhere” 该翻译运用you这个单词,使酒与消费者很好的融为一体,达到了推销的作用。
1.2 商务广告的翻译要符合以下几点要求:鲜明突出,简明通俗,新颖别致以及生动形象。
例一:日本航空:舒适与温馨撒满世界A world of comfort.(Japan Airlines)例二:我们肆无忌惮的知道如何卖鸡蛋We know Eggsactly how to sell Eggs例三: 你会像阳光一样明媚。

第二,语言上:英语企业简介倾向于“白”, 即语调平实、措辞简洁,通俗易懂;用词新 颖、善用修辞富有表现力;不乏行业术语, 整体语气正式而平和,简单易懂的语言比较 容易亲近读者,吸引潜在的合作伙伴和消费 者。而汉语倾向于“雅”,辞藻华丽,描述 性强,有时甚至夸大其实;讲究工整对仗, 多用排比结构,同时喜欢用一些程式化用语 和标语口号式文字;整体语气正式,更具渲 染性和号召力。
2) 四川省房地产开发总公司系经四川省政府批准成立。 Approving by Sichuan provincial government, Sichuan Real Estate Development Corporation came into being. 解析:公司的成立不同,用was set up, was founded, was established都可以译文中的approving应该改为被动式 approved才对,因为公司是被批准成立,而不会自己成立。 “成立”用came into being来表示不妥当,是指以一种自然 或主动的形式出现或存在。本题的主要问题是译文中用词不 当,没有正确地理解原文,恰当地进行选词。 改译:Sichuan Real Estate Development Corporation was set up with the approval of Sichuan provincial government.

英汉两种语言属于不同的语言结构体系,在文化、 风俗习惯、思维模式和审美意识上也有很大差异, 因此,英、汉企业简介在内容、语言表现及行文结 构上也有所区别。 第一,内容上:英语企业简介注重突出公司的形象 及产品,充分表述事实,传输真实信息,用事实说 话;而汉语企业简介则表现为平铺直叙,引经据典, 长篇大论,文中喜欢用概念式及空洞夸大的描述性 套话,喜欢罗列权威机构的认证及企业所获得的各 种奖项。英汉企业简介的差别在于英ห้องสมุดไป่ตู้务实,汉语 务虚。

一、认识企业简介
阅读下面两则企业简介并思考:企业简介包 括什么内容?企业简介有哪些功能?中文和 英文的企业简介各有什么样的特点?
解析:译文中pairs指代不明,用shoes即可;have been well sold之前主语不清楚,句意混乱。此外,后面的国家 和地区名称显然乱译,不仅名称译错,甚至将“等40多个 国家和地区”译为any other countries and areas,与原文 大相径庭。本题的主要问题在于文字拖沓,译文比原文有 过之而无不及。这样的英文简介给企业带来的绝对是负面 效应。 改译: The company’s annual output of shoes ranges from 1.5—1.8 million pairs which have been exported to more than 40 countries and regions such as America, Canada, the members of European Union, Central and South America, East European countries, the Middle East, Russia, the Southeast Asia and China’s Hong Kong.

第三,行文结构上:英语是一种重形合的语 言,在行文上具有高度的形式化和严密的逻 辑性,使用明显的形式标记来表现逻辑关系; 而汉语重意合,句子各成分之间的逻辑关系 靠上下文和事理顺序来显示。
三、热身练习
1、试翻译下列企业简介中的常见表达。 General asset 资产总额 Joint venture 合资企业 Operating income 营业收入 State-owned enterprise 国有企业 Manufacturing business 制造业
解析:译文在处理reliability, security和customer proximity时,直接将其翻译为名词“可靠性、安全性 和顾客亲近性”,这样的处理虽然忠实,但是显得比 较生硬。词语reliability和security都是由形容词加后 缀变成的抽象名词,处理时可以转换为汉语的形容词 “可靠”、“安全”,proximity根据上下文,译为 “亲近”。“Philosophy”属于理解错误,它不仅表 示“哲学”的意思,在企业中往往表示“理念”。英 语企业简介中通常使用抽象名词,让行文看起来正式 和庄重,但汉语用词倾向于以具体的形象表达抽象的 内容。因此,英文企业简介中的抽象名词,尤其是由 动词或形容词加后缀的抽象名词在翻译时一般可以转 换为汉语的动词或形容词。
