Movie Review of Matrix

Matrix is a sci-fi movie shown in 1999, and then its two continuations were shown in 2003.

In the 22nd century, the environment was not suitable for humans’living anymore. What’s worse, artificial intelligent had developed so fast that robots took the control of the world. Humans slept in a “field” and provided bio-energy to robots. In humans’ dream, they were still living in the 21st century and nobody realized that they were just in dreams. Anderson was a hacker in the dream world and he found that there were something strange in the Internet. With the help of Morpheus, he woke up and became Neo, who took the responsibility to destroy all the robots and save the human beings. On the other hand, the robots found that Neo was dangerous for them and Smith tried to kill Neo. After struggle with Smith, Neo escaped from matrix and went to Zion, where the remaining people lived in. The robots decided to launch an attack to Zion and killed all the human beings there. Neo became the Saviours and got on his way to save the human beings. Finally, he persuaded the robots to give up attacking and he would kill Smith, who became a threat to the whole system, in exchange.

Though this movie was made in a science-fiction style, the world in the movie was still attractive and experience an adventure in the future world.

A world ruled by robots is not a new idea, especially in science fictions

and films. Many writers believe that human beings will be defeated by robots and live like slaves in the future. However, Matrix is different from these literatures and movies. Under the control of robots, there were still some people living in Zion, and after Neo saved the world, robots and humans reached an accommodation. That’s one of the themes of Matrix, hope.

Though the world became worse and worse, Neo believed he can save the human beings. Troubles, obstacles and failures are not unusual in our daily life, what’s worse, all of them may come together sometimes. Everybody will get upset when he or she meets these problems. However, somebody is desperate and they will be defeated by them but somebody will “take arms against a sea of troubles”. The first step to overcome difficulties in our life is believing ourselves and the key to it is our hope. In this series movie, my favourite part is when Neo and Trinity piloted their airship through the cloud, they saw the beautiful sunset above black cloud. Life is not always filled with sunshine and breeze, sometimes there will be rain and storm. What we can do is not complaining about the rain but believe that sunny day will come back.

Another theme of Matrix is choice. In the movie, Neo had to choose to enter the real world or to stay in the dream world, choose to save Morpheus or not, choose to live or to sacrifice for human beings. Every choice was important and Neo was always in two minds. But he could
