The New Year#39;s day and the scream is written by lu xun, and he tells some interesting stories about lu xun#39;s childhood. It depicts the life of the people in the late qing dynasty and the early Ming dynasty.Scream, lu xun portrays the life one after another in the reactionary forces under the hard life of sentiments, lu xun in portraying the character, don#39;t pay attention to money and status, is more of a spiritual ignorance, numbness.Lu xun#39;s life was hard. He was a young man in his childhood. He was kept in a high wall and in the courtyard. He was not exposed to the outside world, and his knowledge was poor. He studied hard in his youth and was dissatisfied with the teaching of private schools at that time. He went out to study. When he wrote these works, lu xun ate all kinds of hardships, and the reactionary forces oppressed him, but he persevered and tried to save the hearts of the masses. I admire him very much. Many people in the world are trying to find a perfect panion. Some of these may marry and not know what their new husband or wife is like. This kind of situation often leads to separation or hostility. Other situations may develop between two friends that stem from jealousy, desire for revenge, uncaring parents, etc. Emily Bront?#39;s Wuthering Heights displays several characteristics of destructive relationships. Three of these are uncaring parents, marriage without knowing the person, and jealousy.Uncaring or unsympathizing parents are shown throughout this story to be an element of destructive relationships. Because Heathcliff gained all the attention from Mr. Earnshaw, Hindley became disassociated from his father. This separation continued until after Mr. Earnshaw had died.Another example is between Hindley and Hareton. Hindley became such a drunk and a gambler that he could not properly care for young Hareton. This led to a separation between Hareton and his father as well. One primary example of an uncaring parent is shown between Heathcliff and his son Linton.Heathcliff did not even want his son for anything except enacting a part of his revenge. This is shown by Linton#39;s fear of Heathcliff and Heathcliff#39;s enmity toward his son. Linton even says 。

英语文学名著读后感(精选5篇)英语文学名著读后感(篇1)i believe that one of the factors that makes a piece of literature or even a movie a masterpiece is how well the reader can relate to the story. this is definitely a book everyone can relate to.the adventures of tom sawyer is a literary masterpieces, written in 1876 by the famous author mark twain. tom sawyer is a mischievous young boy who lives in the small town on the mississippi river called st. petersburg. the story line is simple, the book reads like a biography or a memoir of a summer in tom sawyers life.tom sawyer seems to be the precursor of and the template for misfit kids such as dennis the menace, malcolm in the middle, and calvin and hobbs. what makes this story great is that tom sawyer represents everything that is great about childhood. the book is filled with toms adventures playing pirates and war with his friend joe harper. tom has a trusted friend, huck finn, who few of the adults approve of. the book is filled with ideas of how the world works, such as how pirates and robbers work, that are so innocent, they could only come from a child. it is a story filled with action, adventure, ingenious ideas, love, and schoolyard politics. the whole story is seemingly a complication of what people did or wish they did during their childhood.the book is a little difficult to read at first. personally, it takes me a little while to get used to the 19th century dialect in the book.other than referring to persons of african decent in derogatory terms (which im sure uses terms even young children already know), the book would be an enjoyable read for people of all ages. i highly recommend this book for anyone looking to feel young again, if just for a few hundred pages.英语文学名著读后感(篇2)the novel opens with the famous line, "it is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.". and ends with two marriages: jane and bingleys, as well as darcy and elizabeths. both couples are assumed to live happily ever after.elizabeth (lizzy) bennet is the core of the family. elizabeth is the second of mr. and mrs. bennets five daughters, and is an intelligent, bold, attractive twenty-year-old when the story begins. in addition to being her fathers favourite, elizabeth is characterized as a sensible, yet stubborn, woman. misled by his cold outward behaviour, elizabeth originally holds mr. darcy in contempt. however, she finds that mr. darcy improves on acquaintance, more so than she would expect.fitzwilliam darcy (commonly known as mr. darcy) is the central male character and elizabeths second love interest in the novel. he is an intelligent, wealthy, extremely handsome and reserved 28-year-old man, who often appears haughty or proud to strangers but possesses an honest and kind nature underneath. initially, he considers elizabeth his social inferior, unworthy of his attention, but he finds that, despite his inclinations, he cannot deny his feelings for elizabeth. his initial proposal of marriage is rejected because of his pride and elizabethsprejudice against him; however, at the end of the novel, after their relationship has blossomed, he is happily engaged to a loving elizabeth.role of women in the 18th centuryin late-18th-century england, women were relegated to secondary roles in society with respect to property and social responsibilities. for example, women were not permitted to visit new arrivals to the neighbourhood (such as mr. bingley in pride and prejudice) until the male head of their household had first done so. women were under enormous pressure to marry for the purpose of securing their financial futures and making valuable social connections for their families. therefore, marriage, though romanticised, was in many ways a financial transaction and social alliance rather than a matter of love. although jane austen did not condone loveless marriages (she stayed single all her life), she did approve of matches having equality in various respects, including wealth, social status, love and character. in pride and prejudice, wealth, social status, chastity (and the perception of chastity) and physical attractiveness are depicted as factors affecting a womans chances for a good m英语文学名著读后感(篇3)On Sister Carrie Carrie was such an ordinary rural girl at the beginning of the story. Sitting on the seat of a bus she couldn’t help feeling exciting at the sight of the metropolis’ spectacle. She was impressed deeply by large crowd on the avenue the spacious square or tall buildings. Far more different from other heroines Carrie was not a plain pure angel like Snow-white nor was she brave enough to be a heroine ofrevolutionist or even a reformer nor was she so clever as to be a successful career woman who start from scratch. What attracted her most after her entering this huge metropolis was the incredible fineries fashion shoes smart handbags displaying in the shop windows the jewellerys shining brightly behind the glass. She dreamed that one day she could wear all of these jogging gracefully into the most luxurious hotel with focused sights of admiration. And this was not merely a dream. Because she had large eyes which can earn others’ sympathy even love. She had wonderful figure which can win others’ hearts. However anything she got anywhere she reached had not come from her ambition.Things happened and then she accepted. That’s what she had just done ? just to accept willingly from the bottom of her heart. She was not at all an evil woman who would give anything for the fortune or fame. However she would give uo something for a better life when her instinct defeated her intellect. That was Carrie a girl had her own desire a human being just like many others in the realistic world. There’s one sentence written in chapter VIII:” When this jangle of free-will instinct shall have been adjusted when perfect understanding has given the former the power to replace the latter entirely man will no longer vary.” However how many people can go that further.英语文学名著读后感(篇4)i read the book written by luxun .it is called zhaohuaxishi. it includes 10short articles about the writers stories .they are based on his own experience ,when i read this book ,i feel very happy to see luxunschildhood. it wasdiffrent from ours,so we may find it intersting and exciting. luxuns langange isvery great but maybe difficult to understand . but through his words ,we canfind his happiness in his heart .英语文学名著读后感(篇5)ive just fininshed reading the first 4 harry potter books for about the 5th time through, and theyre just as magical and affecting as they have ever been. everything is in here: suspense, adventure, mystery, humour, danger. theres even some pretty satisfying paybacks. the characters are fantastic and fantastically realistic. there are bad people who turn out to be good guys and good people who turn out to be bad guys, just like life.i think the thing i like best about these books is the message that its okay to be different - to be not "normal." i would love for everyone in school to have hear that message. it would probably reduce the bullying around the school.these books value real thoughts. much has been made of harrys rule breaking, but only once in the series so far does he break a rule for arbitrary personal gain. most of the time he makes a decision that whats right is more important than whats written. and you know what? lifes like that sometimes. i think its great that kids are getting an example of how to do whats right even when it involves breaking rules. the potter books also show that there are consequences for rule breaking. if not getting caught and getting a detention, then a spell going wrong and someone getting turned into a cat. this shows that when you make a decision to go against the rules that things may not go as you expected and you have to take responsibility for the outcome.。

What’s more ,the fox is also the little prince’s best friend and help with his understanding of the meaning of friendship. All the story is told by a piolet ,who is another hero in the tale and met the little prince in the Sahara .At the end of the story ,the little prince died on the Earth with the piolet. The writer made the story from the child’sview.Actually, what theprince said is what the writer wanted to said. The theme of the story is to criticize the human beings’ drawbacks. As a alien, the little prince could see the human beings’ disadvantages clearly. In my opinion ,The Little Prince is more than a funny book written for the children. It is a kind of profound reflection of humans.Everyone finishing reading the book can form his thought in his mind. Therefore,I’m sure it is worthwhile to spend some time reading the book calmly. 4Pride and Prejudice ", a novel a pleasure to behold, a beautiful and moving story. The article describes a number of daughters Bo Nate story. Ji-an eldest daughter, gentle kind-hearted, beautiful Keren, Bentley and rich kids at first sight, but at the crucial moment has brought a twist. Second daughter, Elizabeth, Qingli intelligent, ambitious, assertive, consistent with the property of the nobility million youth met Darcy. Can be as arrogant Darcy eccentric, Elizabeth for his prejudice are serious, they love but refuse to recognize the obvious, but also continue to hurt each other with words, but fortunately dispelled the last mistake, married lovers.Reading this novel, I have benefited greatly. In our people, there are many very modest, but there are some arrogant people. These arrogant people who sometimes annoying, they have eyes in the head long, others are dismissive. Indeed, the arrogance is a shortcoming in the environment to develop a character.Chinese children from an early age by their parents as holding typical "little emperors." If so has been from small to large, how could it not arrogant? So I think that we should not be arrogant people who have prejudices, but the more soul-searching myself, to see if they have not arrogant, after their own things to learn to no longer allow parents to worry about, tired. As the book said: "Heart of pride in everyone. As long as we have so a little bit of strength, they will feel especially great. But pride and vanity while the same meaning, but in real terms in different kinds of self-pride is a feeling,Vanity will need to involve other people overestimate their own, so people have a pride without vanity, which is justifiable.。

Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of《英文读书报告》文章《英文读书报告》正文开始>>1.简爱Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens’, is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century. The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London. The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings.I felt for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill.To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end.One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs.Maylie and Rose and began a new life.He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty. How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness.I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty.Although I don’t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person.Goodness is to humans what water is to fish.He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person.People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself. To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people’s honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted.As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their ‘kindness’, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.Francis Bacon said in his essay, ‘Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin.’That is to say a person without goodness is destined to lose everything. Therefore, I, a kind person, want to tell those ‘vermin-to-be’ to learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness.2.双城记After reading “A tale of two cities”“A tale of two cities” is one of Dickens's most importantrepresentative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on,which displayed people's great strength. The novel has portrayed many different people.Doctor Manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually,Lucie is beautiful and gentle,Charles is graceful and noble,Lorry is upright and honest,Sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm, unconventional but also selfless and lofty,Miss Pross is straightforward and loyal,Evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister......The complex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge, but take the life as the price. As an outstanding writer,in Dickens's work, the language skill is essential. Each kind of rhetoric technique, like the analogy, the exaggeration, the contrast, the humorous, and the taunt are handled skillfully, and the artistry of the work is also delivered the peak.“A tale of two cities” has its difference with the general historical novel, its character and the main plot are all fictionalizes. With the broad real background of the French Revolution, the author take the fictional character Doctor Manette's experience as the main clue, interweaves the unjust charge, love and revenge three independences but also incident cross-correlation stories together, the plot is criss-crossed,and the clue is complex. The author use insert narrates, foreshadowing, upholstery and so many techniques, causes the structure integrity and strictness, the plot winding anxious and rich of theatrical nature,it displayed the remarkable artistic skill.the style “A tale of two cities” issolemnity and melancholy, fills indignantion, but lacks the humor of the early works.3. This year summer vacation, I read the American well-known writer Hemingway's novel “ old person and sea ”.I extremely admire in the novel the senior fisherman's will, he let me understand one person certainly must have relentless spirit, only then could obtain successfully. The novel description is one year near sixty years of age senior fisherman, when alone goes to sea in one fishing, fished one big fish, actually did not pull. The senior fisherman socialized several days after the fish, only then discovered this was the big marlin which one surpassed the oneself fishing boat several fold, although knew perfectly well very difficult to win, but still did not give up.Afterwards and further because in the big marlin wound fish fishy smell brought in several crowds of shark fish snatches the food, but the old person still did not hope like this to give up, finally highlighted encircles tightly, returned to the big fish belt the fishing port, lets other fishermen not admire already. When I read “ the senior fisherman think: Here to the seacoast really was too near, perhaps could have a bigger fish in a farther place...” When, I extremely admire this senior fisherman, because he by now already projected on some fish, but he had not settled to the present situation, but was approaches the bigger goal advance.Again has a look us, usually meets one slightly is difficult, we all complain incessantly. We will be the motherland future, will be supposed to like this old person same mind lofty aspiration, will even better pursue even better, the bigger goal. When I read “ the big marlin start fast to gather round the young fishing boat hover, twined the cable on the mast, the old person right hand lifted up high the steel fork, leapt the water surface in it the flash, did utmostthrows to its heart, one wail ended the big fish's life, it was static static floats on the water surface...” When, my heart also liked together the big stone falls.I extremely admire old person that kind do not dread, the relentless spirit, although knows the match strength is very strong, but he not slightly flinches, but is welcomes difficultly above.Just because had this kind of spirit, the senior fisherman only then achieved this life and death contest success. We also must study senior fisherman's spirit in life, handles the matter does not fear the difficulty, only then can obtain successfully. Was reading the big fish's smell of blood is smelled by one crowd of shark fish, struggled swims snatches the food, old person's left hand happen to in the convulsions, he only could use the right hand, with wooden stick, the mouth and so on all was allowed to use for the weapon self-defense which attacked, and finally expelled this crowd of shark fish. But the big fish's meat was already eaten one most, but the old person also charmingly criticized oneself the left hand “ this work time actually was resting ” time, I also was subdued by the old person optimistic spirit. In the life, some losses are inevitable, we should treat by the optimistic manner, cannot be calculating. Finally, the novel sees by one youth the senior fisherman fully has 18 foot long big marlin in the measure, once more described this fish's hugeness, explained senior fisherman overcomes the difficulty was big, non-was more common than. The novel eulogized the spirit which the senior fisherman fear hard and dangerous diligently did not struggle, we also should like his such, could not satisfy the present situation, should positively to above, do any matter all is relentless, meets difficultly must welcome difficultly above, could give up halfway in no way.Only has this, we only then can obtain a bigger success and the victory.4. To Regain the Nature of Goodness--Review of ‘Oliver Twist’Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens’, is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century. The reason is the nature of goodness.I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty.Although I don’t think goodness is omnipoten t, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person.Goodness is to humans what water is to fish.He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary,as the famous saying goes, ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person.People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself. Therefore, I, a kind person, want to tell those ‘vermin-to-be’ to learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness双城记英语读后感“A tale of two cities” is one of Dickens's most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt peopleattacked Bastille and so on,which displayed people's great strength. The author use insert narrates, foreshadowing, upholstery and so many techniques, causes the structure integrity and strictness, the plot winding anxious and rich of theatrical nature,it displayed the remarkable artistic skill.t he style “A tale of two cities” is solemnity and melancholy, fills indignantion, but lacks the humor of the early works.

the book i have read this term is wuthering heights. emily bronte
(1818-1848) is perhaps the greatest writer of the three bronte sisters——charlotte bronte, emily, and anne bronte. emily bronte published only one novel, wuthering heights (1847). some of her best lyric are also rated with the best in english poetry. her famous poems are love and friendship, the bluebell.
they can stay happy all their lives.
after reading, i have a better understanding of love. if you really love
someone, his or her happiness is the most matters. not having a right understanding of and attitudes towards love will only result in hurting yourself as well as the one you love. in a ward, love is the permanent theme of literature and human beings. people often struggle in those troubling romantic notions. to be or not to be, it’s really a question. however, which kind of marriage one should choose depends all on his or her character and experience, no one else can make choice for them and that’s why every love story is unique.

It makes one wonder, was there any way to escape this doomed fate? The complexity of human nature and the constraints of the feudal society are intertwined throughout the story.

on Wuthering Heightsi. introductionWuthering height was written by emily bronte, who was a famous female writer. emily bronte was born in 181 and she lived most of her life in the yorkshire moors that she immortalized in Wuthering Heights. she was the fifth in a family of six children, growing up in a stone personage in a village called haworth. when emily was only two years old, their mother maria was died. the young brontes were sent to a school for poor children of clergymen, a dreadful place that inspired the fictional school in emily’s sister charlotte bronte’s jane eyre. later, they came home to haworth, where they were cared by an aunt. poetry, history, and politics were among the conversation topics at home. such talk fed the active imaginations of the bronte children. of the three writing bronte sisters, emily was the most peculiar one. reclusive and nontalkative, she attended to her chores with a dutiful, stoic nature. only while roaming the moors did she become truly alive. in fact, during the brief times she spent away from haworth, at school in brussels with charlotte as a young woman. she became homesick and physically ill. though being confronted with such difficulties, she kept writing. when Wuthering Heights was published in 1847, the pen name she chose caused much confusion and it was often assumed that jane eyre and Wuthering Heights were written by the same person. emily’s novel was badly edited and received mixed reviews. nonetheless, emily began to work on her second novel. in 1848, a year after the publication of Wuthering Heights, emily caught a cold at a funeral, which, with her typical stoicism, she ignored. the cold steadily developed into a far more serious illness, but emily refused all medical advice.at last, barely capable of breathing without going into a fit of coughing, she steadfastly attended to her usual chores. after emily had been ill for nearly two months, on december 19, 1848, she broke down. shortly after, she died. and yet, she is remembered as charlotte once de scribed her: “stronger than a man, simpler than a child, her nature stood alone.”chen yafei, class 1, 2014, foreign languages schoolwhen the novel began, it was 180 mr. lockwood, the narrator of the story arrived at thrushcross grange, a grand house that he was renting from heathcliff, who lived at nearby Wuthering Heights. he spent a night at Wuthering Heights and had a terrifying dream. later, lockwood asked the housekeeper mrs. nelly dean to tell the story of heathcliff and Wuthering Heights.it was a story that flashed back thirty years to 1771, when mr. earnshaw brought a street orphan home. he called him heathcliff and intended to raise him alongside his own children, catherine and hindley. hindley was intensively jealous of the new arrival and saw him as an interloper and rival. however, catherine became heathcliff’s inseparable friend and fell in love with him. after mr. earnshaw’s death, hindley took over the estate. he brutalized heathcliff, forcing him to work as a hired hand. and he forbade his sister to be with heathcliff. later, catherine became a friend of edgar, who was a mild and refined young man and agreed to marry him. heathcliff was very depressed and angry, then he left Wuthering Heights. some time later, he returned and he had mysteriously become very wealthy. he began to take revenge on those who prevented him from being with catherine. through his efforts, he took ownership of Wuthering Heights upon hindley’s death. intent on ruining edgar, heathcliff married edgar’s sister i sabella, which placed him in a position to inherit thrushcross grange after edgar’s death. catherine became very ill after heathcliff’s return and died a few hours after giving birth to a daughter also named catherine. later, heathcliff became more bitter and revengeful. his wife isabella left him and subsequently gave birth to a boy, linton. meanwhile, heathcliff succeeded in taking ownership of Wuthering Heights and vowed to raise hindley’s son, harenton. then, in order to rule the property of his enemy, he persuaded catherine to marry linton. soon after, edgar linton died, followed shortly by linton heathcliff. this left catherine a widow at Wuthering Heights, as heathcliff had gained compete control of both Wuthering Heights and thrushcross grange. even thus, he was not happy at all. at last, he committed himself and he was buried near to catherine.the whole story was really a tragedy. mr. lockwood was shocked by the story and the story concluded with mr. lockwood visiting the grave.the novel divides into several chapters, and each chapter seems to set up a lesson for us to learn.when i was reading this novel, what impressed me most was the unhappy marriages. in this novel there existed several unhappy marriages. one of the examples was the marriage between isabella and heathcliff. isabella didn’t know heathcliff wellwhen she married him. she was just attracted by his appearance, but later she realized that heaththcliff was not a gentleman at all. as a result, what she only could do was to regret for herself. another example had happened between catherine and edgar. although she had been happy at the beginning of the marriage, after a while, she became bored and she also realized that her true love was heathcliff. in my opinion, her choosing to marry edgar was just because she wanted to be rich and to be the greatest woman in the neighborhood. till now, i can remember clearly that catherine said to mrs. dean: “it would degrade me to marry heathcliff now.” from her words, we can see that she cared wealth and social status more than true love, which should be responsible for her unhappy marriage. in our daily lives, there also exist many people who share the same opinion with catherine. there is no doubt that they also have suffered a lot from their unhappy marriages. it is my personal belief that a successful marriage should not be based on wealth, beauty or social status. however, the true love, respect, knowing about the one you choose are the essential factors in marriage. to everyone, marriage seems to be one of the most important things in life. it has great influence on our daily lives, our physical and mental health, our social relationship and even our fate. so, we should take our marriage seriously and choose the one who is really right for us. thus, can we have a successful marriage and a happy life.after reading the whole story, i was shocked by heathcliff’s revenge and learned a lot from it. because of the animosities between himself and others, heathcliff used all means he could to take revenge on them. not only did his wicked actions do lots of harm to others, but also these actions hurt himself a lot. during the process of taking revenge on others, his sense of superiority had faded away. then his appearance began to reflect the state of his mind. his walk lacked confidence; he looked disagreeable, and spoke seldom. even though he succeeded in taking possession of all the wealth, he was not happy at all. at last, hecommitted himself. as it says that “whoever seeks revenge shou ld dig two graves.” just like heathcliff, if he could recognize this principle and follow it, all the tragedies could be avoided. it is widely known that to forgive and forget offenses enable imperfect people to grow and improve. maybe, it is easier said than done. however, the longer you wait to forgive someone, the harder it becomes. in our daily lives, it is unavoidable to hurt others or to be hurt by others. if we are too sensitive to it and pay much attention on it, we’ll be unhappy all day and we can not get along well with others around us. our society worships harmony. being tolerant and having a harmonious relationship with others will benefit us a lot. next time when you get hurt, remember the saying “to err is human; to forgive, divine.” and follo w those instructions. only in this way can we live happily and make our society more harmonious.all in all, i really learned a lot from this novel. it deserves our reading. Wuthering HeightsWuthering Heightsemily published only one novel, Wuthering Heights, but this single work has its place among the masterpieces of english literature.emily was born in thornton, yorkshire, in the north ofengland and died of tuberculosis in the late 184 when bronte sisters are young, their father asked them to read many books: the bible, homer, virgil, shakespeare, milton, byron, scott and many others. the children also read enthusiastically articleson current affairs.unlike charlotte, emily had no close friends. she wrote a few letters and was interested in mysticism. her first novel, Wuthering Heights, a story-within-a-story, did not gain immediate success as charlotte's jane eyre, but it has got later fame as one of the most intense novels written in the english language. in contrast to charlotte and anne, whose novels take the form of autobiographies written by authoritative and reliable narrators, emily introduced an unreliable narrator, lockwood.lockwood, the narrator, is a gentleman visiting the yorkshire moors where the novel is set, and of mrs. dean, housekeeper to the earnshaw family, who had been witness of the life of the original owners of the Heights. bronte draws a powerful picture of the strange man heathcliff, who is brought to Heights from the streets of liverpool by mr. earnshaw. heathcliff is treated as earnshaw's own children, catherine and hindley. after mr. earnshaw’s death heathcliff is bullied by hindley, who loves catherine, but she marries edgar linton. heathcliff 's destructive force is unleashed, and his first victim is catherine, who dies giving birth to a girl, another catherine. isabella linton, edgar's sister, whom he had married, flees to the south. their son linton and catherine are married, but always sickly linton dies. hareton, hindley's son, and the young widow became close. increasingly isolated and alienated from daily life, heathcliff experiences visions, and he longs for the death that will reunite him with catherine.in early time, there are many critics on this novel. somepeople called it a "strange, inartistic story", but commented that every chapter seems to contain a "sort of rugged power". itsupported the second point made in the athenaeum, suggesting that the general effect of the novel was "inexpressibly painful", but adding that all of its subjects were either "utterly hateful or thoroughly contemptible".there some symbols in the novel, for example, the moorsand the ghosts.the constant emphasis on landscape within the text ofWuthering Heights endows the setting with symbolicimportance. moorland cannot be cultivated, and its uniformity makes navigation difficult. it features particularly waterlogged patches in which people could potentially drown. thus, the moors serve very well as symbols of the wild threat posedby nature. as the setting for the beginnings of catherine and heathcliff’s bond, the moorland transfers its symbolicassociations onto the love affair.ghosts appear throughout Wuthering Heights, as they do in most other works of gothic fiction, yet bronte always presents them in such a way that whether they really exist remains ambiguous. thus the world of the novel can always beinterpreted as a realistic one. certain ghosts—such ascatherine’s spirit when it appears to lockwood in chapter iii—may be explained as nightmares. the villagers’ alleged sightings of heathcliff’s ghost in chapter xxxiv could bedismissed as unverified superstition. whether or not the ghosts are “real,” they symbolize the manifestation of the past within the present, and the way memory stays with people, permeating their day-to-day lives.i think the novel suggests us that lovers should have a healthy love, and put the needs of the beloved first. Wuthering Heights is the first english novel which i had read. before that i used to heard jane eyre, and im very familiar with its chinese version. therefore when our professor asked me to read an english novel, i chose the Wuthering Heights written by emily bronte who was jane eyre s writer-charlotte brontes young sister and a genius female writer in britain in the 19th century.Wuthering Heights was emilys first masterpiece novel as well as the unique one. moreover emily was an excellent poet. in her novel, i can always feel the mysterious and horrible atmosphere that was reflected not only by the changeable weather but also the cold-blooded and hypocritical people such as heathcliff、joseph、 hindley as well as catherine. emily told a long story about different personality individuals living in two villas on a great sheet of wasteland.after finishing the novel, i searched it on the internet and curiously found that unlike her sister charlotte emily didnt have an actual love and marriage experience. all of those vivid figures and complex plots in her novel were imaginary.usually the literature works mirror out the authors real life and living environment. emily bronte lived thirty years of british society was the age of turbulence. her family settled down on a remote nook of wilderness (next to the chillingworth industrial estate ) just like the place where the Wuthering Heights located. besides, in her novel she didntmention catherinemother very much due to emily lost her mother in her early age, and long-term alcohol and drug taking led the death of her brother branwell which was the real model of hindley . whats more , petrick bronte, emilys father, who was aradical conservative, opposed luddite movement in his early years, and gave help to the chillingworth workers and supported their strike. relatively the figure of her father in her novel was mr. earnshaw who adopted gypsy foundling--heathcliff and brought him up. it was inherited from their father that emily and her sisters had more mercy on craftsmen.in emilys real life, her brother 、 her sisters and she were all educated at home, thus they often killed time by reading books、poetry writing and making up romaunt together. sometimes they went for a walk on the wilderness, it was there emily had a good advantage to be closed to the nature then merged her emotions into her works especially the poems. it was said that emily often alone walked around the wilderness and experienced the instant which the nature and people could extreme meet. all of her those feelings were expressed in her representative poem works such as souvenir 、prisoner and night breeze. britain well-known poet and critic matthew spoke highly of her, “after baron era, nobody could matched----the most outstanding poet”. unfortunately i havent read her poem, but i will find some in my spare time.。

English: Through reading classic English literary works, such as "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen and "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens, I have gained a deeper understanding of the social and cultural norms of the time period in which they were written. "Pride and Prejudice" allowed me to delve into the intricacies of the British upper class society in the early 19th century, examining issues such as courtship, marriage, and class distinctions. On the other hand, "Great Expectations" provided me with insights into the harsh realities of 19th-century London, exploring themes of poverty, ambition, and redemption. Both novels also highlighted the importance of character development and personal growth, as well as the complexity of human relationships. Overall, reading these English literary classics has not only improved my language skills, but also broadened my perspective on historical, cultural, and societal aspects of the time period they depict.

A Theory of Justice

A Theory of Justice
