PRODUCT SPECIFICATION

LILIUM

The requirements mentioned in this product specification apply in addition to the General Specifications for Cut Flowers.

The product specification Lilium applies to all auctions affiliated with the Association of Dutch Flower Auctions (VBN) as of November 1, 2004

No part(s) of this book may be reproduced and/or published in any form, whether by print, photocopy, microfilm or any other means without prior written permission from the publisher (Association of Dutch Flower Auctions).

The flower buds directly on the main stem (primary buds).

I. Minimum Requirements for Trade

RIPENESS

The lowest minimum ripeness for Lilium is that at least 95% of the stems in the batch must have a flower bud showing colour.

PRETREATMENT

Lilium Asian Hybrids and Lilium LA Hybrids must be pretreated with products containing the active ingredient STS (code 1 on the label), to be applied in accordance with instructions. Exceptions apply for ‘Annabelle’, ‘Cannes’, ‘Chianti’, ‘Concorde’, ‘Connecticut King’, ‘Cote d’ Azur’, ‘Eurovision’, ‘Festival’, ‘Florence’, ‘Gran Sasso’, ‘Hilde’, ‘Jolanda’, ‘Madras’, ‘Monte Rose’, ‘Mont Blanc’, ‘Navona’, ‘Prominence’, ‘Pronto’, ‘Rodeo’, ‘Sterling Star’, ‘Toscane’, ‘Vivaldi’, ‘Wiener Blut’ and ‘White Cloud’.

II. Quality and Grading Criteria

QUALITY REQUIREMENTS PER BATCH The following additional requirements apply: • The batch must be free of damage due to viruses.

• The batch must be free of root and bulb remnants.

The tolerances listed in Overview 1 in the General Specifications for Cut Flowers apply.

GRADING REQUIREMENTS PER BATCH Lilium must be graded according to: • length; • ripeness;

• number of bloomable buds. The flowers are to be graded according to the number of bloomable buds using the grading table as indicated in the General Specifications for Cut Flowers, with the exception of Aalsmeer Flower Auction, where a different method of grading according to bloomable buds applies.

GRADE CODE

Refer to the List of Grade Codes Cut Flowers.

III. Packing Specifications

GENERAL • Lilium must:

– be supplied in bunches of 10 stems; – be packed in a sleeve per bunch; – to be packed according to the survey.

Lilium flowers with stem lengths of 120 cm and more (length sorting code 120 or higher) must be supplied standing in water in containers of type 997.

• Lilium longiflorum:

– when supplied in bunches of 10 stems, must be packed in a sleeve;

– when supplied loose, 20 stems must be rolled in paper (only for singles pips); – It is required to strip the leaves from the bottom 10 cm of the stem. An exception to

this requirement applies to Lilium

longiflorum if it is rolled loose in paper.
