Pianos have an important position in the musical history. In the 14th and the 15th centuries keyboard instruments began to appear in Europe. In the 16th and the 17th centuries European makers produced two varieties of this kind of instrument with their strings being either vibrated or struck. In 1700 Italian harpsichord maker Bartolomeo Cristofori finished what we now know as “clavichord” using a hammer to generate sound on the string. This is the very beginning of modern pianos.

Also known as Huangyan, the Sunlight Rock is locatedon the top of Longtou Mountain (Dragon’s Head) south of Gulangyu Island. It is the highest peak in this area, 92.68 meters above the sea level. On the top of the rock,there is a round terrace where one can get a panoramic view of Xiamen. In this area, there are such places of interest as the Lotus Nunnery and Memorial Hall to Zheng Chenggong, a national hero who reoccupiedTaiwan from the Dutch. There are also caves, ruins of ancient cities, and cliff carvings
