I met Mr Neid in the ninth grade on a tagedeign team for a forter when I wa umentC.emunication通信, munication/ethod D.an解析:最后两句表达内容相近,写信即为另一种选择,故答案为B项。

A.are more attractive to studentsB.are more strict with studentsC.carry out a better policyD.admit more excellent students17.How many reasons does the author give to support his or her idea?A.Two. I’m afraid this explanation isn’t as interesting as the sounding of the word itself. But then again, the dictionary I mentioned is a dictionary for beginners. One can’t expect much from it when it comes to such an interesting word as hocus-pocus.The Merriam-Webster dictionary online,on the other hand, gives a more detailed explanation;(1)sleight of hand;(2)nonsense or sham used especially to cloak deception. And it gives the origin of the word:probably from hocus pucus, imitation of a Latin phrase used by magicians. This explanation gets to the basic nature of hocus-pocus-exotic(外来的)but meaningless talk by the magician to fool the audience.Watch any magician at work and we’ll notice that he sometimes talks constantly while performing tricks, using hocus-pocus,such as ear-catching words,eye-catching hand or body movements,to distract(分散)our attention while he gets a trick done. Hocus-pocus reveals the nonsensical nature of the magician’s talk onstage.And_it_was_introduced_into_the_English_language_probably_just_on_the_strength_of_the_rhyming_sound _of_it.Hocus-pocus,lovely. Well ,knowing its origin which is from performing magicians in Europe,I’m sure you will find hocus-pocus easier to remember. You’ll also learn where to put it into use. 36.What is the passage mainly about?(No more than 10 words.) ________________________________________________________________________ 37.Please list some examples of using“hocus-pocus”mentioned in the passage.(No more than 10 words.) ①____________ ____________ ____________ 38.Which sentence in the passage can be replaced by the following one? A.adding leaves to a book B.throwing away a book C.tearing up a book D.turning pages of a book B Like most big projects, learning to manage your mother well is what you should do. Here are what I believe the best steps towards a better relationship with her. They are not necessarily surprising or revolutionary, but they have worked for many people. Try them. Remember your mother’s age.As children, we often do not think of our mother as having an age. Even when we become conscious of her as an individual, age does not change our view; she is still our mother.Knowing our mother’s age, not just in numbers of years but in terms of her psychological and physical state, often helps us to understand her better. Listen to your mother.I have found that sometimes the things my mother told me long ago are remarkably useful. If your mother knows that you respect her point of view, even if you do not share it, it will help her feel close to you. Remember that your mother has a past. A key step in managing our relationship with our mother is to find out about her early life. Niclle’s mother suffered much during the Second World War. “My parents are both Jewish-Turkish. They met in France and married young for love. They were in their twenties when war broke out and because they were Jews, they had to go into hiding. She does speak to me about the war, and I think it is important to know what she went through. It is a part of her life that must have affected her deeply.”Sometimes, in learning about our mother’s past, we know that it can encourage us to think about her whole life. Ask your mother about your childhood history. My grandparents died when I was young. If you are fortunate enough to have living family, think of your life as a jigsaw(拼图)puzzle and ask as many questions as you can to put the picture together. Understanding your roots and your childhood can help you know more clearly who you are, as part of a family which you share with your mother. Keep a sense of humor about your mother. I have often listened to stories of difficult mothers and I have also listened to the following piece of advice which I have found most helpful:Don’t have a sense of humor failure about your mother. Remember that managing your mother is really about managing yourself. No matter how difficult we find her, it is important to remember that it is not her behavior itself that is causing us discomfort, but the way we feel about her behavior. We should follow the way of her life. Only then are you able to accept your mother-with all her failings. 20.The followings are the steps you can take to get on with your mother EXCEPT ________ . A.remembering your mother’s age B.sharing your roots and your childhood with your mother C.having a sense of humor failure about your mother D.managing yourself while managing your mother 21.What does the underlined word “them”refer to in the first paragraph? A.projects. B.mothers. C.steps. D.people. 22.Which of the following is implied but not stated in the passage? A.It will help you have a better relationship with your mother if you respect her opinion. B.You should follow a most useful piece of advice-a sense of humor. C.The key measure of managing our mother is how we manage ourselves. D.It is unreasonable to expect our mother to change totally from the way she was brought up. 23.The main purpose of writing the text is ________. A.to give information about how you think of your mother B.to improve the relationship with your mother C.to keep a sense of humor about your mother all day long D.to accept your mother—with all her failings Ⅲ.短文改错(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分) I sent my baby to the supermarket this morning.24.________ At the store,I had put her in a shopping cart,25.________ with some food and toys around herself.26.________ A small boy and his mother were ahead of me.27.________ The child was crying and begging for everything.28.________ “He wants some sweets or toys and his father29.________ won’t let him have.”I thought.30.________ Then I heard about his mother’s reply.“No!”she31.________ said, looking at my direction.“You may not have32.________ the baby-sister today. That lady got the last one!”33.________ 参考答案 1.A [ever since与现在完成时连用。

All of these animals share the Earth with us.They fascinate us with their beauty, their grace, and their speed. We love observing their behavior, and learning more about their habits. But just loving them is not enough. All of these animals are endangered. Many of them have died, and without special care, they may someday disappear from the Earth. Why is it important to care for animals like these? One reason is to protect the balance of life on Earth.Another reason is the beauty of the animals themselves. Each species of animal is special.Africa was once filled with an abundance of wild animals. But that is changing fast. One of these animals, the black rhinoceros, lives on the plains of Africa. It has very poor eyesight and a very bad temper!Even though the black rhino is powerful, and can be dangerous, its strength can’t always help it to escape hunters. Some people think that the rhino’s horn has magical powers, and many hunters kill rhinos for their valuable horns. This has caused the black rhino to be placed on the endangered species list. The elephant seems to represent all that is strong and wild in Africa. It once had no natural enemies, but is now endangered-killed for its ivory tusks. The fastest land animal, the cheetah, also lives in Africa. It,too,is becoming extinct as people take over more and more of the land that is the cheetah’s natural habitat. Imagine Africa without the powerful rhino, the gentle, intelligent elephant,or the lightning quick cheetah.Once they are gone, they are gone forever. 16.The best title for this passage would be “________”. A.Do what we can B.Gone forever C.Help animals D.Live or die 17.Why has the black rhino been placed on the endangered list according to the passage? A.Because its eyesight is poor and its temper is bad. B.Because it has a horn. C.Because it is believed that its horn has magical power. D.Because people think it is powerful and dangerous. 18.Which of the following does NOT support the main idea of the article? A.Ocean-dwelling animals are in danger of extinction as well. B.Beautiful birds like the great green macaw are also becoming extinct. C.Wherever people are careless about the land, there are endangered species. D.The elephant seems to represent all that is strong and wild in Africa. 19.How does the writer feel about the fate of endangered animals? A.Disinterested. B.Concerned. C.Optimistic. D.Confused. B Everyone can hardly manage to live without friendship. As we all know,in our life, all of us are sure to meet with all kinds of hardships, such as illness, accidents and other disasters. If we have no friends to help us out of these difficulties,we can hardly get to a new start.Everyone needs support in feelings, yet your family members can’t always give you so much support because of all kinds of reasons. At this time a true friend is very important. When you have made great progress in your work and made your mark, you need a friend to share your pleasure. On theother hand, when you suffer a terrible loss in life, you need a friend to listen to you and open your heart to him.Of course, everyone has to die,and when you are dying, how you wish your friend to understand you and help your folks! Since friendship is so important,we should try to make some true friends. How to find friends?A friend should first be true, pure, kind, friendly, enthusiastic and of course stress feelings and like to help others. If you can find a person with the same belief and interest,it is surely muchbetter.Remember when you have found an ideal person to be your friend,it doesn’t mean he or she will be your friend. You should open your heart, feeling and wish to him or her to gain his or her heart and feeling. When you have got a good friend, please remember that friends should try to help and support each other. When your friend has done something which doesn’t satisfy you so much, you should try to understand him. When your friend has done something wrong, you should try to forgive him.If so,your friend will be deeply thankful to you for your forgiveness.Your life will prove your most valuable possession is your friend. 20.You need a friend when you face ________. The new rules include stronger supervision of genetically changed food, seeds and drug products. They also require governments to keep public records of where such crops are grown.Genetic engineering is the technology of changing the genes of living things. The changed gene directs the plant to do things it normally does not do.For example, the treated plants may produce more crops.Or they may resist harmful insects. This reduces the need for farmers to use chemicals to kill insects. The use of genetic engineering in agriculture has been debated around the world in recent years. The United States Food and Drug Administration, many American farmers and agriculture companies say such crops are safe. But many people in the United States and other countries disagree. Some countries have closed their markets to American farm products because of concerns about genetic engineering. There have been large protests against biotechnology crops across Europe.Officials in several European Union countries question the safety of biotechnology products. The EU has approved permits for fewer than twenty such products. In the past three years,European offficials stopped approving permits because of concerns about public health and the panies propducing such foods are waiting for approval of several products.Environmental activists have warned the EU against ending the ban on new biotechnology products. One group,Friends of the Earth, says the measures approved by the European Parliamentwill not help the public, farmers or the environment.36.What is the author’s attitude toward genetically changed food? A.Optimistic. B.Objective.C.Dissatisfied. D.Curious.37.What can we infer from the passage?A.The new rules have become law in Europe.B.The use of genetic engineering in agriculture saves the need to use chemicals to kill insects.C.It still has a long way to go for genetically changed food to be accepted by the Europeans.D.European countries care more about food safety than the USA.38.The passage is mainly intended to________.A.inform the readers that new rules on genetically changed food have been approved B.warn people that genetically changed food is far from safeC.present different opinions on genetically changed foodD.give a brief introduction to genetic engineering39.The example in Paragraph 4 is mentioned in order to________.A.list the advantages of genetically changed foodB.make a comparison between common food and genetically changed foodC.explain how genetic engineering is applied to crop productionD.explain why genetically changed food is not safe40.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A.People in the United States disagree with the new approval.B.If the new rules become law,all the genetically changed products will be permitted in Europe.C.Some countries have stopped importing farm products from America,as they are concerned about genetic engineering.D.Contrary to the Europeans, many American people say genetically changed products are safe.答案1. Anyone who brought his sleeping bag and cooking equipment along could stay there for a very small amount of money. The idea was a success.A few years later, the schoolhouse was far too small to hold so many young people who wanted to stay there. So, a dormitory was set up in an old castle nearby. This was the first Youth Hostel.Today young students and workers of every country can meet in the hostels and get to know each other. Some spend a week or more in the same hostel, seeing the surrounding sights and meeting the people of the area.Other youths go on foot or by bicycle from place to place, spending a night or two in one hostel, then going to the next. Sometimes an informal program will be organized after the meal, with dances, songs,or short talks followed by a question period. One can________about other places, just by meeting people who come from these places. For this reason,a few weeks spent “hostelling” can be just as useful a part of one’s education as classes in school. 36.Translate the underlined sentence in Paragraph 1 into Chinese.________________________________________________________________________ 37.What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us?(No more than 10 words.)________________________________________________________________________ 38.Which sentence in the text is the closest in meaning to the following one?
